Nintendo Switch 2 launches with Miitropolis, the Big N's quirky take on the City Builder genre where (utilizing the mouse feature) you build your own Mii city including customizable sports/play areas that you can then play actual games in ala Wii Sports and Nintendo Switch sports.
Tomadachi Life but on a citywide scale sounds crazy.

I can make one part of the city really ghetto and fill it with all the people I don’t like!

Honestly, if it includes/gives a new home to Dr. Wright, since Nintendo owns him but not SimCity as a game, I wouldn't mind this at all lol
There's a lot of nods Nintendo could put into their versions of SimCity into this hypothetical "Miitropolis": Remaking its soundtrack, letting Bowser rampage all over your city (or potentially expand the Bowser disaster to include other Nintendo villains as well), and since I said versions instead of just one, there's potential mechanics from their N64 SimCity to implement too, like how it lets you explore your own city on foot or in a helicopter.

Golf in Wii Sports was similar to this in that it was a stealth-remake of the NES Golf game.

Would be a deep cut given its origins, but getting some SimCity 64 soundtrack shout outs in such a game would be cool too:

You know, this is making me think...

Does Nintendo own the music for SimCity on the SNES and N64? I would assume so, but then my question turns into "Could Nintendo post the music on the music app despite it needing the name of a franchise they don't own?"

As noted, Nintendo managed to put Dr Wright in Smash without copyright issues so barring the possibility of composer owned limitations, I would assume the music's alright.

"A top executive at EA when asked about Nintendo putting SimCity music on the app was confused and reportedly responded: "What the hell is SimCity?""

Smash has been able to mention Dr. Wright is from SNES SimCity without needing to credit EA.
Yeah but Dr. Wright doesn't need crediting because Nintendo created him for their versions of SimCity, so they own him. For the music app, you'd have to label the game itself, not Dr. Wright, so I'm curious how the rights for that would work out, since they'd have to label them like "SimCity" or "SimCity 64", which would name-wise be owned as a trademark by EA.

So, what do you all want from the next Smash Bros.?
At the very least, better online. That's my one big ask. I highly doubt they'd even try for rollback, but one can hope.

After that, going into wish list territory:
  • Better online, this time in terms of modes not just functionality. Let us play stuff like Special Smash, Squad Strike and Smashdown online in lobbies. Bring back Coin Battles and Smash Run too.
  • Bring back For Glory or an equivalent ranked mode. Ranked Matches won't hurt anyone, promise. Or you can just ignore it if you want. I don't know why Sakurai is so stubbornly against such a basic mode. (I mean we know why but I disagree.)
  • Restore Final Smashes to be being over the top, unbalanced, crazy stuff. Ditch the FS Meter.
  • Add more standard supers for people that do want the more traditional FG experience. This can be tied to meter but must enabled as an option of play. Supers won't be on by default.
  • 16 colors per character, not including costumes.
  • Costumes are separate from colors; these don't need to be distributed evenly. Each costume has 16 colors as well.
  • Make some Smash original costumes too. Use them as part of seasonal events post launch and such. And speaking of-
  • Seasonal events like live service games, but without the predatory monetization or grind of GAAS. Hold in game events with accompanying paid DLC and the odd freebie here or there to keep players engaged. For example, they do a Halloween event: Smashville, or whatever AC stage there is, gets a free Halloween version as part of an update alongside some simpler free costumes for characters like Mario or Wario. But there's also paid DLC for a brand new, event appropriate stage (something like Big Boo's Haunt or Pumpkin Hill) along with more "premium" costumes for a few other characters, etc.
  • Moveset updates for every character. Can be as little as one or two normals or a new special but as much as near complete overhauls in a few cases (:ultsonic::ultlucario::ultminmin) For the most part though, everyone should have something that makes them feel a little different and hopefully fresh.
  • Secret characters that are actually secret. Keep the unlocks on the low end, but for those that are, don't mention them at all. No secret section on a website like the Brawl Dojo, no reveal close to release through marketing, etc. Make them truly hidden surprises. The internet will make short work of this sort of thing anyway.
  • A CERO rating of C or at least B (as in the content within will no longer try to adhere to the lowest possible rating of A.)
  • A new adventure mode that takes after the one in Melee but greatly expanded on.
  • Separate from adventure mode, a new story mode, that's broken up into sections, utilizing gameplay from multiple genres. For example, an actual on rails StarFox stage for one level followed by an FE map followed by a Kirby level and so on. Basically, level to level, bite sized portions of Nintendo games following a narrative told via text boxes (not going to hold my breath for extensive voice acting, even on a wishlist.)
  • An overhauled and expanded stage builder combining Brawl and Ultimate's systems. You place blocks, platforms and props by default. You can still use freehand drawing as well but the options for those using the block/grid system are much more robust to compensate. New block stypes, new backgrounds both generic and Nintendo based, new props and hazards also generic and Nintendo alike. Animal Crossing furniture to stick in the background, placeable hazards like Thwomps, Whomps, Beamos, etc. Maybe even placeable background characters like AC Villagers or extra Pokémon that don't make it to Pokeball status.
  • For something actually character specific, I'd like for them to really dive into the indie* scene for some less expensive collaborations that can help bolster the roster size while still providing characters people want. Shantae, Shovel Knight (maybe some other knights too?), Cadence, Undeltarunetale, etc.
  • For first party newcomers, finally dig into those "C-tier" forgotten series like Golden Sun, Advance Wars, Chibi-Robo, etc. along with more retro faces like Prince Sable, Muddy Mole, Takamaru, etc.
  • I don't need EiH in the base game, but I would like to get there again or as close to it as possible by the end of the game's life.
That's all the broad stroke stuff I can think of at the top of my head atm. Otherwise, I'd be going into actual character specifics or listings for stage builder, etc. That said, the online being marginally better is the only one I believe could actually happen. Everything else is dream game wish list stuff.

The Wii launched with Wii Sports
The Wii U launched with Nintendo Land
The Switch launched with 1-2 Switch

What kind of gimmicky, goofy launch title do you think the Switch 2 will have?
will it even have any new features to test?

We had HD Rumble, what’s next? 4K Rumble? :4pacman:

As far as Smash is concerned, Stage Builder would greatly benefit from mouse controls. Especially if they merge Target Tests and Board the Platforms into Stage Builder options.
Man, thinking about what can be done with Ultimate's currant Stage Builder(especially backgrounds), now I really hope the Stage Builder gets expanded upon, especially in terms of space.

I always found it weird that Sim City HAS representation in smash and has had it since assist trophies were a thing.

Technically making it one of the earliest third party series to join smash. And that's so weird to think about.

CERO rating of C
Sakurai wants children under 15 to play these games too, and as I keep mentioning thanks to astro bot
And for future reference for the next bimonthly Oh No They're Going To Cut All The T/M-Rated Characters debate, here's all the T/M-rated series mentioned in Astro Bot's credits:
  • Ace Combat
  • Legacy of Kain
  • Tomb Raider
  • Kena: Bridge of Spirits
  • Oddworld
  • Worms
  • Stellar Blade
  • Rise of the Ronin
  • Beyond Good & Evil
  • Assassin's Creed
He doesn't need to change a thing to keep T/M-rated characters in while letting it still be suitable for kids.

I’ve actually been thinking of something; you guys remember Luke from Street Fighter? He was the last DLC character in Street Fighter V before making his proper debut in Street Fighter VI, where he was meant to debut originally.

I guess what I’m saying is, it would be novel if Ultimate got one last DLC newcomer who was backported from the next Smash game as a teaser for the next Smash game.

I wonder if the Switch 2 will have any built-in software like the 3DS’ Face Raiders, AR Games, and Streetpass MiiPlaza. I’m not expecting it though, since they might opt for a “minimal” OS again.

I hope they don’t use the exact same menu.

At least change the layout a little bit. I’ve been looking at the same menu for 8 years, gimme something new!

I'm hoping since this is built off of the Switch as an iterative console, it'll have a bit more flair to it. The Switch menu works (except in the eshop good lord I hope they fix how sluggish that thing is at least), but yeah, I'd like a little more flavor to it, or bring back themes like everyone has been saying for eons. What's the point of a themes option in the settings if it's basically just "Do you want Light Mode or Dark Mode?" lol

Actually, it's had representation since Smash Melee.

It's actually like this with Perfect Dark too in a way, remember that in the JP version, the Motion Sensor Bomb (themed to GoldenEye's Proximity Mine in both Smash 64 and the western versions of Melee) takes its design from Perfect Dark's Proximity Mine, as I posted a few pages back.

Now do remember that, unlike something like Banjo-Kazooie (co-owned with Nintendo), Rare had full ownership of Perfect Dark prior to 2002. Hell, they're even credited for it in Melee:

Kinda weird DKC2 was mentioned here because Nintendo published and fully owned all of Rare's DKC/DKL games, unlike Perfect Dark and such.

I wonder if Nintendo would bring back Wii era light gun games like the original Wii Play and Link’s Crossbow Training. Probably not, but it’s another thing to consider.

Just to clarify, this has nothing to do with concern of x or y franchise getting cut due to marketing regulations. That's why it's in the "not gonna happen" wishlist portion. It's a complete bias want (but also flexible, hence the B.) Either way a B or even C rating isn't going to stop a majority of children from playing Smash anyway. It is of concern to Nintendo but in a full bias scenario like this, it's no concern of mine.

I just don't like games (or shows or movies for that matter) getting high content ratings for what I think are trivial reasons. I don't think either T-rated Smash deserves it, really: Melee only has it because someone at the ESRB really liked slapping T ratings on games meant for younger audiences during the 6th gen (the E10+ rating was added to calm him down), while Brawl just has it for 5 seconds of blood. That you don't see during a normal fight.

I mean if the switch 2 does end up having the feature of using the joycons as a mouse would it be actually useful or just a gimmick?

Although i don't know how Nintendo would actually make a game using joycons as a mouse and it sounds very awkward to control (buttons on it's side and all that, unless you're supposed to hold the other joycon straight like a Wiimote + Nunchuck setup or something?) , much less adding the feature to an already existing game like smash.

I don't like it either but that's just how these boards operate. :drshrug:

If it takes a C (sometimes B?)/T rating for characters like Mai or Tharja to simply be allowed to exist in the game, then I'd be in favor of it. Again though, I don't see this happening either way. Casting as wide a net as possible will always be Nintendo's goal for a game like Smash. And, since CERO's establishment, Smash has always gotten an A. I don't see that changing.

For ports of mouse-centric PC games, I'd imagine the most optimal way to play them would be in tabletop mode, with only one Joy-Con corresponding to your dominant hand detached and in mouse mode, while your second hand is used for the touchscreen to access things you'd use hotkeys for on a PC.

Real-time strategy games are constantly being used as an example of a genre that can benefit from this, so using Starcraft II's HUD for example:
1737242601277.png

See all those buttons that have letters/numbers showing what key you can press to use them? You'd be using your free hand to press them while your mouse hand is used for selecting units and telling them where to go. (hopefully in this hypothetical SCII port that utilizes the touch screen+mouse joycons, they'd let you move the command card on the right to be next to the radar or vice-versa for lefties)
