Aside from the new Bowser Castle and Rainbow Road, what other new courses would you guys like to see in the new Mario Kart?
Give me a scrapyard course. That’ll be Waluigi’s next home track.
I wouldn't hold my breath on that. Mario Kart seems to aggressively avoid tracks based on any of the games. Legit, I think the only ones are GCN Peach Circuit, DS Luigi's Mansion, the crossover tracks, and Bowser's Castle as a general theme.
  • SNES Donut Plains
  • N64 Royal Raceway
  • GBA Rainbow Road
  • GCN Peach Beach
  • DS Desert Hills
  • Wii Luigi/Mario Circuit
  • Wii Rainbow Road
  • 3DS DK Jungle

Since the new Mario kart seems to have 24 potential racers at the same time thanks to the switch 2 power, it made me wonder if the next smash could have more then 8 player smash? At the bare minimum I hope we can play with 8 players online this time.

Look at how stubby everybody is, including Bowser. DK's redesign is more obvious, for sure, but the more I pore over the footage, the more clear it becomes that they're going for a distinct look here.

I'm not sure what you mean about them having a bone to pick with DK.
There is a particular style for sure, one that I don't even really mind to be honest.
However the other characters are mostly on-model, they're just stubby and slightly chubbier. DK has a completely different face structure, and even his body shape isn't his regular one but stubby.
He just looks like a completely different character.

Given the way they treat the DKC series, I'm 100% sure this is a sign of things to come. This is DK now.
A character who's lost all his edge and who's not able to stand on his own.
Is anyone able to picture this doofus punching K. Rool? I'm not. This dude can't be a main character.
They clearly want to relegate him as just another Mario side character and hope everybody forgets about DKC.

I think I'm taking a break from Nintendo news, really tired of getting in a bad mood all the time just because this company happens to have the same name of one I was a fan of 10 years ago.
It's been a pleasure.

Wait, we're in page 1889
Nintendo was created in 1889

Can we talk about the potential representation of Nintendo's origins (B.G. - Before Gaming) in Smash.
Love Hotel stage lets go...?!

I don't remember Waluigi being in Mortal Kombat. :4pacman:
If Tour was nine then I want to confuse people by calling the new Mario Kart MKX.

Kart has courses with much, much more room for players, and a layout whereby not every player has to be accommodated on the same screen simultaneously. Smash isn't built for that many people playing at once. It's big "just because they can doesn't mean they should" energy imo.

That was the course I was thinking of when I said GCN Peach Circuit. Looking it up, there wasn't even a Peach Circuit in Double Dash! lol

Wii Luigi/Mario Circuit
What game are these two based on? As far as I know they're both just Mario and Luigi themed racetracks.

Wii Rainbow Road
I don't think that one's based off of anything.

Oh boy I hope not. I can't keep track of 8 player Smash, and it usually just devolves into me standing in a corner until everyone else is done fighting.

It would also lead to us getting stages that are bigger than The Great Cave Offensive and uh...

Some Mario Odyssey tracks based on areas besides New Donk City would be great. I think the area with the robots+construction stuff and the area with the chef people and lava would certainly make for unique Mario Kart tracks.

Your insistence on ignoring the huge multi-million dollar elephant in the room every time is just confusing me at this point. If Nintendo wanted DKC to be forgotten they wouldn’t be putting this much money into the brand… or like, clearly putting off the Switch 2 announcement to promote a DKC remake.

Like, come on. It really is not that personal. I’m sorry you don’t like some of the recent choices but it doesn’t mean they’re here to spite you.

It’s never too late in the game. You said it yourself, these guys have looked more or less the same for over 20 years. Here, on the cusp of a new generation, why not shake things up a bit?

Between Wonder and now this new Mario Kart, it’s clear that they’re going for a stylistic approach that harkens back to the art design of the Mario 3/World era, with squatter proportions, models that resemble the 2D art, and an even more vibrant look. And it just so happens to coincide with some of the visual elements from the movie designs. Coincidence, or coordinated brand synergy?

Personally I’m all for it, I’ve always loved the Kotabe art style and I think it looks rad in the actual games.
I don't know, as far as I'm concerned it's an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" situation. I think I have a bit of the opposite of a lot of the Nintendo Fandom - I grew up on the "boring" New Super Mario Bros artstyle, as far as I'm concerned that's how Mario should be - and the new more expressive appearances feel off. Fully acknowledge I'm in the minority here, not trying to convince anyone otherwise.

In the episode of "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show" in The Great BMX Race, it is shown that Tryclyde can also ride. Do you imagine they will bring Tryclyde to the upcoming Mario Kart 9?

On the Mario Kart redesign stuff, I'm not sure why we're taking it as "Wow the Mario Cast will look different from now on" and not "This is what Mario Kart 9/10 looks like"? It's possible this is a redesign for the whole series but like, could just as easily be an artstyle quirk specifically for the new Mario Kart. I wouldn't judge it as good or bad this early since we're getting minimal context.

Nah don't worry. You grew up on NSMB, he's still coming to terms with games having a z-axis.

Yeah, but Odyssey has such a wide range of locations and biomes that I could see them maybe go for a couple, and Shiveria already has a racetrack in it, so I figure it's as free a choice as you could possibly get for a new snow/ice course that every game has lol

Also while I'm talking new courses I'd like to see, since DK has DK Jungle and Yoshi has the Yoshi's Island course from the BCP, I'd love a track based on Diamond City so Wario can get in on the "courses inspired by Mario-adjacent series" thing.

Nono. This new change clearly means that the new Donkey Kong game is going to look like Donkey Kong: King of Swing. :4pacman:

Well I think it’s because Wonder also did something similar. Sure, it could be that only Wonder and Kart 9 have this new style and other games could go back to basics, but I dunno.

Once is an occurrence. Twice could be a coincidence, but it could also be a sign of things to come.

I’m going to hold off judgement until I see more of these designs and get confirmation whether they’re just for this Mario Kart game or the way they’ll be moving forward. I actually prefer the classic NES and SNES Mario art to their modern designs so I’m sure I’ll get used to most of them and might even prefer them over time. Though, I’m pretty sure I’ll always like Donkey Kong’s DKC design a lot more. That doesn’t mean I’ll never play a DK game again but it will be disappointing if this change is permanent. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Don't get me wrong, I realize how silly it is to say "I want LESS personality!". Objectively it's a good thing. It's just, personally, it's not what I'm used to and therefore Bad.

My first video game ever was New Super Mario Bros. for the DS. Not even a year later, I got New Super Mario Bros. Wii. NSMB 2 & U were some of my most anticipated games as a child. The formulated aesthetic was all I knew of the Mario brand for years.

I have fond memories with the entire NSMB series, but let's be real. Whether you grew up with that era of Mario or not, we can all acknowledge the games are lackluster when it comes to presentation. The characters almost look dead. It was an embarrassing look for a series that's supposed to be bright and lively, and especially dreadful for the spinoffs because they were all influenced by that lifeless look.

These changes are very welcome. Y'all need to learn to adapt.

I have a feeling a lot of people prefer what they grew up with. For example (this is a hot take), I personally preferred Lou Albano’s portrayal of Mario over Charles Martinet’s. It might just be because it was a cartoon vs a video game but Lou made Mario feel like a real person instead of shouting out random phrases. I liked the sound of his voice more as well. Nothing against Martinet because he did a great job for what they wanted, it’s just not what I grew up with as a kid.

Chances of Baby Pauline?
Pauline's trademark look is her purple eyeshadow and red lipstick, which obviously wouldn't look right on an infant. And Pauline isn't a mainstream enough character to get her own baby version. Baby Yoshi is where it's at. My most wanted character for sure.

On a serious note, after all the criticism, I don't think they'll introduce any more babies. I'm surprised they even kept the already existing ones tbh.

If they're going to double down on the babies then me Baby DK, he'd look even cuter in this art style. And throw in Kiddy Kong as our surprise pick. :4pacman:

But unironically though, give us more Kongs.

I started with the NSMB games too, I have nostalgia for that artstyle. But a lot of that style came from a push by Nintendo to standardize the franchise so it aligned with the marketing, which really limited the amount of creative expression these games were capable of. Paper Mario got hit the worst by this, I think, just look at Stciker Star. I’m just happy to see them lighten up on those restrictions, and the series becoming more expressive and zany in its visual design, especially after years and years of people whining about how bland Mario had become.
