Yeah. Last time they were opened as soon as the Switch was released in 2017 with the expectation that there would be a Smash game on it, but back then a lot of people thought we were just gonna get a Deluxe version of Smash 4.

Might sound crazy cause of how little we seen of the game but am personally disappointed by the graphics of the new Mario kart. Graphics look the same as Mario kart 8 besides the new DK design. I don’t know just kind of expected Nintendo to do more with the big improvement in power on the switch 2 compared to the switch 1.

So now we know the official name is the "Switch 2" and we are finally getting Mario Kart 9 this year, as well as that it is backwards compatible with the original Switch.

Yeah, I much prefer his previous design by Kevin Bayliss. I’m not sure why they felt the need to change it. The good news is that mods are usually a thing for Smash so I can just change him back in my game.

There's a couple of interesting character design changes in that Mario Kart teaser:
  • The whole game has a toybox kind of vibe, with every single kart and character feeling really compact.
  • Mario has puffier cheeks.
  • Peach is wearing a dress while on a bike. Perhaps this is an early look, but they might be getting rid of the princesses' racecar outfits.
  • Donkey Kong in particular looks super cramped, but I'd bet that's going to be a thing for Bowser too in the smaller karts.
    • Also his eyes are tiny which is kinda amusing, but I withhold my judgement for when we actually get to see him up close.
  • Rosalina was riding in a snowmobile complete with runners instead of front wheels, which is really funny on a desert track.
    • Daisy is riding something weird too, but I can't tell what it is. The variety of different types of vehicles available has definitely gone up.
  • The track itself appears to be pretty massive, though whether that's because it's super long or the scaling has gone up or it's a 1 lap course with checkpoints a-la Mount Wario remains to be seen.

I think that the only reason we aren't getting a new DK game right now is because Retro Studios is far too busy with Prime 4, which got into a state of development hell and the most troubled production Nintendo has seen since Mother 3.

Tbh I don't really see the illumination version in that, more that his proportions look a little more like his original 80s incarnation. Granted, that's also what they did for the Rogening, but this feels distinct enough that idk I don't really see it?

Also I love the idea that Nintendo forced Rogen into the role of DK as some kind of spiteful move rather than the more likely scenario that Nintendo and illumination just have really lame taste in celebrity voice actors.

Mario Kart 10 is looking nice(Tour is officially the 9th game, after all).

Though we might get a unique name for 10 as well. Seeing it not compatible with every single Switch game does suck a bit, but there's gotta be some variables we don't know that justify it. XD

I thought DK was perfectly fine in the movie and didn’t mind Seth’s voice for him but I wanted that to just be for the movie. I still much prefer his previous game design to this. I’m just a big fan of Kevin Bayliss’ work in general from DKC to Battletoads and Killer Instinct. It’s a shame to see his designs get phased out. I was pretty hyped for Ultimate in finally getting K. Rool but this kind of deflated that.

I imagine given it's basically the Switch again but... better, there will be very few games that aren't compatible.

Looking at that new Mario Kart, confirmed characters look like to include:

12 racers, huh? Not looking good for the 24-racer believers.

Yes. It was fine in the movie, but it's a design that screams side character. That dumb gorilla that's friends with Mario.

Also, there's probably different modes. The starting line has spots for 24, and they probably want to save that reveal until they're actually showcasing the game rather than teasing it for a few seconds.

Baby Larry, Baby Morton, Baby Wendy, Baby Iggy, Baby Roy, Baby Lemmy and Baby Ludwig are locks. As are normal Larry, Morton, Wendy, Iggy, Roy, Lemmy and Ludwig. And we can't forget Metal Larry, Metal Morton, Metal Wendy, Metal Iggy, Metal Roy, Metal Lemmy and Metal Ludwig. Oh, and I almost forgot Pink Gold Larry, Pink Gold Morton, Pink Gold Wendy, Pink Gold Iggy, Pink Gold Roy, Pink Gold Lemmy and Pink Gold Ludwig. As well as the Koopalings but backwards, unlocked from the Mirror Cup, being Mirror Larry, Mirror Morton, Mirror Wendy, Mirror Iggy, Mirror Roy, Mirror Lemmy. That seems about right.
