Popping in to say that this is giving me more incentive to play the First Okami game than I even already had.

Bought the first game a while back but between the busy holiday schedule and wanting to focus mainly on games I want to more or less complete like Pikmin 4, Dust: An Elysian Tail and a Hat in Time's DLC, it's among the many games I've yet to get to playing.

When it comes to Mario's down B, I'm as basic as a pumpkin spice drinking white girl, just give me Mario Tornado back. It was perfectly functional, simple enough for his beginner character motif, and worked in his kit fine, no need to overcomplicate things.

Maybe give it some star GFX to make it look like the Galaxy spin tho if you wanna spice it up. Then do the same thing for Luigi.
Ehh, unl
Sonic Racing CrossWorlds

Is it just Sonic characters or is it a Sonic & Sega All-Stars Crossover game? Would rather know that now so I can decide whether I will care or not.
The word CrossWorlds sounds like crossover so hopefully it is another sega crossover game and not just Sonic characters.

I'm already bracing for the nightmare scenario where CrossWorlds is them going "dude we got movie sonic, classic sonic, and regular sonic on the same roster, this is just like No Way Home!!!!!!!!!"

Please, lord, let them do stuff that makes sense and make this an excuse for sonic and kiryu to interact.

I really wish we saw more about Sonic Racing Crossworlds instead of 20 seconds of Shadow hopping into a car, but I really hope it's basically a SEGA All-Stars Racing game, especially with SEGA having this big initiative lately to bring their franchises back (those reboots or whatever they announced a while back for Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Crazy Taxi, and now the return of Virtua Fighter).

With Kamiya returning to Okami, maybe we can get Amaterarsu as a Bayonetta clone or inherit her play style if she's cut

All in all, while Game Awards didn't have a whole lot I was interested in, it had a good amount of surprises. Overall, it was decent.

That said, big props to the guy who was helping layed-off workers find new jobs for them. That was really heartwarming and wholesome.

She...She's a quadruped...How she gonna copy Bayo's moves?

EDIT: She also has her own really cool mechanics to pull from with the Celestial Brush. It would be a shame to miss out on those.

Incredible! Okami would've been one of the last series I would've said could get more love. Got a few friends who are gonna be pretty happy. They made her work in MVC3, Sakurai could probably do even better

It's very cool to get back all these franchises, but in terms of Smash, I'll be honest:
  • Ninja Gaiden was already a franchise with a pretty good shot. This helps, sure, but... it already had a good case.
  • Okami and Onimusha are cool, but... Resident Evil and Monster Hunter are Resident Evil and Monster Hunter. Chun-Li is Chun-Li. Even Dante is bigger.
  • Similarly with Virtua Fighter, I do think Sakurai holds the series in esteem, but... it's still not among Sega/Atlus's biggest guns.

All in all, not that we can't still muse over the possibilities, but I really don't think any of this moves the needle much. Either the series already had a good chance, or it improves the shot of series that remain outclassed. I mean, these series are experiencing revivals, which is fantastic, but the biggest ones never really went away in the first place.

From the Resident Evil series, the characters I would like to see in the Super Smash Bros. series are Chris Redfield, Albert Wesker, and Nemesis-T Type. But who among them would be the most likely to make an appearance as a newcomer? Of course, there's a chance that none of them will make it.

For Resident Evil, the character I associate most with Nintendo is Leon Kennedy. He’s also my favorite of the protagonists. As for who I think would be the coolest and most interesting for Smash, I’d go with Nemesis. He’s got such a cool and imposing design that really stands out and looks like he’d be a ton of fun to play in Smash. I have a preference for playing super heavyweights like Ganondorf in Smash because their attacks feel so impactful.

Has anyone else had any Smash Bros. related dreams? I had a weird dream last night that a new Smash was shown off and three newcomers were revealed. The first was Ifrit from Final Fantasy using a design I’ve never seen. The second was some kind of gryphon chimera type monster from Monster Hunter that I don’t think exists. And the third was Jinx, who was a pirate for some reason.

I don’t know what causes me to have such nonsensical dreams. I almost never dream at all, or if I do, I don’t remember them by the time I wake up. When I do remember them, they’re always weird like that. Maybe this one is a sign that I’m thinking about Smash too much lol. When I was still half asleep this morning I was ready to make a post about how cool the reveal was but then I realized it was a dream shortly after.

A long time ago I had a dream about them adding Min Min from ARMS 2, who was much older to the point of having a streak of grey hair...Thinking about how her hair is kind of supposed to be noodles makes that really gross actually.

I've also had a dream where along with my family, I lived with Waluigi, and his crush, a nondescript anime girl, and then I went to a roman coliseum where I won a pillow fight in the arena. Dreams are just weird.

In terms of revivals, last night was kind of insane. We got...

  • Ninja Gaiden
  • Virtua Fighter
  • Onimusha
  • Double Dragon
  • OKAMI
And that's not including new IP or sequels to active IP like the Witcher and Borderlands. This VGA kinda rocked.

Don’t forget Turok. That one looked pretty cool too.

I find it hard to get into Secret Level. I’ve watched all but the last three episodes so far and the show just feels so random. I’m not really given much reason to care about the characters or why they’re fighting with such short, standalone episodes. The fight scenes are cool but it’s hard to care much about what’s happening if I have no connection to the characters. Hope the Mega Man episode is good because I’m a fan of his series. Maybe the show is made for people who are already familiar with the properties in it. I know about D&D, Warhammer, and Unreal on a base level but not enough to be really invested without explanation.

The VGA announcements rocked. The show itself, like always, was a big waste of time.

At least Statler and Waldorf were kind of funny, though.

I thought the Arcane concert was really cool but I’m biased because I really like Arcane. I’m not sure how people felt about it that didn’t watch the show.

I know we think R.O.B. should have his own stage, Bowser should have Bowser’s Castle, and maybe even Min Min should’ve had Ramen Bowl instead of Spring Stadium but are there any other characters who you think should have their own specific stage?

Gangplank Galleon for King K. Rool, I’d say.

Nice music but I kinda just zoned out - I'm sure it was cool for the people who care about the show but it unfortunately just meant nothing to me for obvious reasons.

The goty musical bit was cool if only for the orchestral balatro cover, which is insane.

(Also in terms of music I was very happy at Unbreakable Determination playing during the Ninja gaiden trailer)

Yeah, I can understand that. I usually zone out for the concerts and award sections too unless it’s something I particularly care about. Unbreakable Determination is a classic. I especially love the version made for Warriors Orochi:

I’m curious what the logistics of licensing Arcane music for Smash are if Jinx gets in. Most of the in-show music is done in house so those seem feasible. The opening theme is performed by Imagine Dragons so I’m guessing that one’s out of reach for Smash. The show had some pretty cool music overall that would be cool to hear in Smash. The main song they’d need is “Get Jinxed” that was used for her 2013 music video and made a cameo in Arcane. I think that one needs to be used for her reveal trailer.

oh I’ve had a few smash dreams in my life. often they involve me trying out a character on the roster for the first time like an non existent 3rd party character or a random Pokemon. I’ve had the odd character reveal dream as well. The wonderful 101 landing in Nintendoland, anges from bravely default along side a Mario galaxy stage and one where we were getting thowmp as a bonus dlc fighter alongside a bulblax being fighter pass number five

there’s been some others but I don’t recall them as clearly

Back when Ultimate was still ongoing I dreamt that the next fighter reveal was Parappa the Rapper.

The fandom was confused, but accepting.

We’d need him to shout out “kick!”, “punch!” and other lyrics for his attacks. That would make for a pretty funny character. I know he’s in PlayStation Allstars but I don’t remember if they did that either him there.

The truth is that I'm disappointed that Turok started as a comic book and not a video game because I would have liked Turok as a newcomer to the Super Smash Bros series, but as I've written before, the beauty of the Super Smash Bros series is that it only accepts video game characters.

Same here. I think Turok would be awesome but I can accept he’s ineligible. I’m perfectly happy if Smash always sticks with its video game origins only rule as it gives the series some sense of cohesion and separates it from things like Fortnite. That means we have higher chances to see less mainstream characters too. I’d be lying though if I said I wouldn’t be hyped about seeing some of my favorite characters from other media in Smash though. Not saying that will or even should ever happen. Just that I think I’d be happy either direction they go as I see upsides to either approach.

Have you ever noticed how we always talk about how Bowser should have a Bowser Castle stage and whether or not Ganondorf being a strong-but-slow version of Falcon is the best portrayal for him, but never about whether or not he should have a Ganon's Castle stage? Which is a shame that we don't when you consider the Ganon boss battle takes place in the ruins of his OoT castle.

I've had a couple smash dreams over my life. The main one I remember is recently they announced a new game by showing shadow as a fighter, and I was angry because they used a generic building for the stage and windy hill as the music lmao.

I had so few dreams about Super Smash Bros. that I don't remember any of them, but I was part of a fictitious video game for a Fanon Wiki called "Super Smash Bros. Endless Dreams" and it's still getting updates through Mii costumes.

I still had a dream where I was chased by an angry female Corrin for some reason
