Since we just got a new Borderlands trailer, what would everyone think if we ever got a Borderlands character like Lilith? I feel like the humor in those games can sometimes fall short but the gameplay is actually a ton of fun. It’s rare to find a big local co-op adventure these days and Borderlands has a lot of the same appeal as Diablo III did for me with all the loot drops and customization. The art style is pretty cool too, looking like the characters come straight out of a comic book. Unfortunately, the movie bombed pretty bad so I don’t think that helped its chances. The story and writing was never really the game’s strong suit anyways so I’m not sure the movie ever had much of a chance. Still, a lot of the characters can still be fun and enjoyable and they all have unique abilities that could translate well to a game like Smash. The fact that it was even popular enough to get a movie in the first place says something.

Snake Man's stage from Metal Blade Solid
We’d need him to shout out “kick!”, “punch!” and other lyrics for his attacks. That would make for a pretty funny character. I know he’s in PlayStation Allstars but I don’t remember if they did that either him there.
He did karate, whirled a mike around, and hit people with his skateboard. His Level 3 Super had him perform:

"You gotta do what?"
"I gotta redeem!"
"You sure about that?"
"I gotta believe!"
"You gotta do what?"
"I gotta receive!"
"But most important."
"I gotta believe!"

Yeah they couldn't get any rights to Parappa The Rapper's music, but they made it work nonetheless. As far as rhythm mechanics goes though, they're pretty much entirely ignored save for the super in which they're alluded to. Kinda makes sense though since rhythm mechanics are hard to conceptualize in a fighting game, and Parappa specifically relies on call and response. Might could still do it with a puppet or trap fighter, but he's a base roster character for the first game so he was probably supposed to be on the easier side.

I once had a Smash dream that a new one released and that the only characters were Mario, Link, Pikachu and Kirby. The only stage was Brawl Battlefield.

It was lame as ****.
So it was just the start of the Brawl reveal trailer?

Imagine the next Smash's artstyle is like Brawl, all realistic and stuff, and then they reveal that Pac-Man looks like this now

So how does everyone else feel about Secret Level? I’m not sure if I’m just not looking at the series the right way because I find it hard to get invested in. If I pretend they’re just long cinematic video game trailers then maybe I’ll like it more.

You can't treat the 40K episode like that. It's supposed to be an epilogue to Space Marine II.
Yeah, I suspect you need to have prior knowledge of the source material to fully appreciate the show. Going in blind is rough. I know a tiny bit about Warhammer through the Magic: the Gathering Commander decks but not nearly enough to have any idea what was happening other than “cool looking space marines fight monsters”.

dunno. Only see a couple trailers. The megaman one looks interesting. The Pac-Man one looks mental

The show’s cool if you just want to watch a bunch of random fight scenes with little to no context. I feel like fans of the series that they feature would enjoy it a lot more. I’m going to watch the Mega Man episode soon so I can judge for myself then.

Which makes me wonder why Epic okayed the Unreal Tournament episode, since anyone who wants to play UT after watching it will be disappointed to hear they delisted the entire series from every storefront jncluding their own.

But on the plus side, they also okayed the fans hosting free downloads for the series:

Personally I hate everything it stands for and think it's an affront to good taste but other ppl probably have better takes than I

It's kinda funny, as much as I love Smash and think about it, I don't think I've ever had a dream about a newcomer or a new game or anything, or at least if I have I don't remember it lol
I almost never dream period. I remember about one or two dreams a year if that. I think I’ve had a couple about Smash and a couple about WWE. My most common dreams are nightmares about getting captured by evil people and trying to break out and run away. The first dream I remember ever having is trying to run away from a giant owl that was trying to eat me. So random Smash dreams are a nice change of pace. Not sure what that says about me lol.

It's... a thing... that exists...

Honestly, I'm still thrown off by the Pac-Man one. No offense, but THIS is how Bandai Namco wants to celebrate their most important series' 45th anniversary? I think I've been reminded why so many different fandoms aren't particularly fond of them.

Secret Level seems like it's just uplifting artsy fartsy stories using video game IPs. From the trailer, it seems like the writer misunderstands the actual themes at play in the Mega Man series, opting for a "you can do it! You're stronger than you know" despite Mega Man's personal struggles being more about the morality of violence/killing even when it comes to protecting others.

Maybe that was just an easier story to tell in the short time they had? That’s one of the issues with such short, disjointed episodes.

No, I don't even have normal dreams or any dreams. You guys are quite lucky

Standard Adaptation Slop that misunderstands the sources they are adapting. Moving along

Looks like I’m not alone in being pretty disappointed by the show. I might as well finish this season just out of curiosity but it’s hard to really recommend. If it’s actually misunderstanding what it does choose to focus on, that’s even worse and I imagine even fans of the source material would be disappointed. I can’t speak to that part since I haven’t seen an episode of anything I have a lot of knowledge about yet.

There's a complete Azelf moveset for a "Super Smash Bros. 100" that's just out there stuck in my dreams somewhere. I remember thinking it was kinda weird Azelf was in the game in the first place but like, I got to play them and they were fun to play. Very unique too, there's not really any character in Smash that plays like them, closest I can say would be like... some bizarre hybrid between Ness and Fox? And yeah those two aren't very similar to each other, but Azelf was very floaty and the aerials reminded me of Ness but they were also very very rushdown like Fox. Unfortunately not real though, so I can't just like show you it lol.

Oh, and in an earlier dream during the Smash 4 era I had one where I checked the Smash 4 website. They uploaded a video there where they just accidentally spoiled all the DLC characters and showed off the complete roster for like three frames by accident. I remember freezing the frame and was like "Wait, huh, Perfect Cell? But no Goku!?" and thinking that was bizarre. Also the other newcomers we hadn't seen yet (that I can remember, there were definitely more lol) were Magolor, Crash, Gordon Freeman, Spyro, Manaphy, Steve, and... Mr. Incredible. I'm sure this is a completely normal roster and could totally happen in the future /s

I once had a dream about Smash 4 where it had all of the then-revealed newcomers and veterans, Ridley, King K. Rool and...Chunky Kong, for some reason.

There wasn't even any gameplay. It was like a 5 second dream of the roster selection screen.

Has anyone else had any Smash Bros. related dreams? I had a weird dream last night that a new Smash was shown off and three newcomers were revealed. The first was Ifrit from Final Fantasy using a design I’ve never seen. The second was some kind of gryphon chimera type monster from Monster Hunter that I don’t think exists. And the third was Jinx, who was a pirate for some reason.

I don’t know what causes me to have such nonsensical dreams. I almost never dream at all, or if I do, I don’t remember them by the time I wake up. When I do remember them, they’re always weird like that. Maybe this one is a sign that I’m thinking about Smash too much lol. When I was still half asleep this morning I was ready to make a post about how cool the reveal was but then I realized it was a dream shortly after.
Once I dreamt the ARMS rep would be an older Mechanica who had actual ARMS and not just the mech suit, most likely from an ARMS 2. Not that out there. There was also one where Pyra and Mythra posed next to a bunch of assist trophies. Then the screen zoomed in on Riki and darkened slightly and suddenly Riki was joining the battle

I only remember having one dream about a Smash reveal years ago, I think during Ultimate prerelease speculation.

It was Donkey Kong.

Like, it’s not like there wasn’t already one, it was just a second one. I don’t recall dreaming any differences, it was just that and I was like “okay yeah **** it why not”. :drshrug:

Questioning my existence while asleep
I've talked about dreams I've had before, but not all the notable ones.
Let me get the prophetic one out of the way.

Weeks before the April 2014 Smash Direct, I drempt that I was browsing the Smash For website and at the left most side on the row of characters at the bottom of the page was Greninja with a 3D render similar to the Sugimori art.

Needless to say, my mind was pretty damn close, which is freaky with how soon it was.
Sadly, Greninja was the only one that a dream actually happened afterwards, but still.

I had two minor Melee related ones (during For times so no hints or anything).

One, I was playing Melee and went into Target Test for fun. But oddly, I was playing as Totodile. Can't for the life of me remember how it played like though.

The other, I was looking through some magazine and saw an image of Classic Mode where Rouge the Bat was fighting the Hands. The only amusing detail I remember was her stock icon being ripped right from Adventure 2.

I'm spreading out my posts so that I don't make a single massive wall of text :p.
I can top that.

Before he was shown to be an Assist, I drempt a whole-ass trailer for Dillon, being in the rustic sepia artstyle and narrated by goddamn Sam Elliott.
Dillon was just sitting in a saloon and confronted by Mario and Co., which Dillon promptly showed them up.
I remember seeing some "gameplay" too, with for example a Down Smash being rolling in a full donut around the Z-Axis. The ending portion being Mario, DK, etc. all knocked out as Dillon tipped his hat and walked out.
And I never played a Rolling Western.
Before Ultimate was officially revealed or even teased, one dream was for a Switch port for For, which combined content from both 3DS and Wii U, with a big draw being two reveals that would be "impossible" on a 3DS.
One was the Ice Climbers returning (which is hardly prophetic since it was obvious they'd return in the future), and the other was....Greymon. With the draw that he could become MetalGreymon in the fight through unknown means (would've been revealed later if real probably). No sign of Agumon.

But that's not the only thing; on the "website" for it showed another new character that wasn't shown in the initial reveal, Dante. And this was before DMCV was announced or Dante becoming a big name in Smash speculation, so it was definitely more random.

And this ends the "reasonable" ones.
The last two are completely out there.
Funny. I had an odd dream last night involving an old Smash too.

Dreamt that Brawl somehow had Growlmon, BlackGrowlmon, and Coredramon as fighters and Nintendo gaslit everyone to believe they didn't exist or something since they weren't in Ultimate and no one would say anything.
The last two I hadn't mentioned are thus:

1. Months before Sora's reveal, I had a dream that the last two (yes, two) characters were Aladdin and some random shadow-looking knight that looked like he was made out of the Game of Thrones chair and had a name hard to say or type out. All I remember was it started with G and had apostrophes throughout.
What was notable was that despite Aladdin being a non video game character, he was accepted with open arms with people citing the SNES and Genesis game as why he was "worthy" of the slot.

Ironically, we did end up getting a Disney character in the end that was widely welcomed, so accidentally prophetic?

2. A post-Sora dream where it was revealed there would be one last bonus DLC similar to how FighterZ got Lab Coat 21. The trailer had Captain Falcon fighting on top of an elevator and nearly slipped off but was caught by the arm and pulled up by....Chuck Norris. The MUGEN version.

And he was designed not to be invincible, but obviously overpowered compared to other fighters. And did not come with a stage, basically a separate download like Piranha Plant.

Forgot to share those two before, but now that covers everything now that the subject of strange Smash dreams had come up again.

Any Nintendo-related dream I have inevitably transitions into me playing "that inaccurate version of Peach's Castle in Mario 64 ," and there's nothing I can do to stop it.

I have to wonder if this was before or after people spotted Chunky at SmashFest like the cryptid he is lmao

So a couple things regarding Sonic Racing CrossRoads.
  • By what I've been hearing, Sonic Racing CrossRoads is being made by Sega Hardlight, the same people who made Sonic Dash 1 and 2, ChuChu Rocket Universe and Sonic DreamTeam. No mention of Sumo Digital, probably because Sumo got bought by Tencent.
  • Upon hearing that, I remembered that around a few months ago, there was a rumor that Hardlight was making a Sega All-Stars game for Apple Arcade. Though it was mentioned that it was supposedly going be the Tennis game rather than the Racing game.
Sure, it doesn't guarantee Sonic Racing CrossRoads being a Crossover game. But I guess there's still a bit of hope of the game being a Crossover. Still wish they revealed right away whether the game was just Sonic characters or a Sega All-Stars game though.

Crossover or not, my only hope for the game is that they skip Zavok this time. I don't know why they insist on pushing the Deadly Six.

Or at the very least have a larger roster so the inclusion feels less jarring.

Also, give us the IDW characters.

I think hardlight deserves to be freed from the mobile mines... But somehow I wouldn't be surprised if this translates to "Hardlight has been given a mobile budget to develop a game for consoles".

It being a Hardlight game seems to be a mistake. The tweet stating that has been taken down and hasn't been brought back up since - meanwhile, curiously enough, the Japanese accounts have been describing it as a game made by "the elites of SEGA's racing game team". That....does not sound like Hardlight to me.

As for who it could be with this in mind, it's a bit vague but the more common theory I've been seeing from knowledgeable folk is that it's being headed up by a lot of the Initial D arcade devs, who would now be in the same division as Sonic Team. Would be pretty cool if so

I still feel like the last member of Eggman's team in Team Sonic Racing (himself, Metal, and Zavok) should've been Heavy King. I mean you have a host that can send invites forward AND backward in time and don't use anyone from a Classic-styled game?

Could've made his Ultimate theme a snippet of Hi-Spec Robo Go! as well.

The initial d devs working on marrying sega's arcade racer lineage with the sonic racing stuff would actually give me some hope. Still can't shake the feeling that the roster might become a "and look who we found from hit Netflix series Sonic Prime" situation, though.

So that would explain why the Game Awards tweet never came up whenever I kept retrying the page. Since that was apparently where it was tweeted. That said, the possibility that it being done by a team good at making racing games sounds cool.

Though that only makes me wish more it was confirmed right away on whether it's just Sonic characters or a Crossover game. Don't like the idea of having my hopes played with.

I mean with a name like /Crossroads/ it would be kind of ridiculous not to mix franchises imo. The word only exists to describe the meeting and intersecting of different pathways/locations

This is a fair way to think about CrossWorlds and the hope I have with it, especially with recent franchise revivals coming out of SEGA. However, I can't help but think about things like Sonic Boom and Sonic Prime and how they're supposed to be different worlds/timelines and stuff and it makes me a little worried lol

If it's basically another All-Stars Racing, can I get at least one of my boys from the original (Billy Hatcher, Opa-Opa, or the ChuChus) since all of them got cut in Transformed?

But it could also refer to all of the different versions/timelines of the Sonic characters. Regular Sonic, Classic Sonic, Movie Sonic, Prime Sonic, Boom Sonic, Comic Sonic, etc. Especially how Shadow was teased with looking like his movie version.
