I think you forgot Kat and Ana.
I didn't, I personally don't think they're very compelling or are strong candidates for Smash on their own. They are cute characters within WarioWare but IMO don't really warrant serious consideration as playable fighters. I do miss them as an Assist Trophy though, I'm a bit confused why they were taken out leaving Wario with effectively negative content from Smash 4 (spirits withheld). I suppose you can lump them in with Orbulon or Penny but I consider those two way more exciting as far fetched as they are, while Kat and Ana are pretty basic but did once upon a time have a physical presence in the game, so there's that.

Yeah in terms of actual chances it's pretty much just Ashley. She's the most popular AND the easiest to work with.

By the way I think Zelda and Kirby will get a newcomer in the next game. Marx and Ganon as bosses could feel like consolation prizes of sorts, with most of the other mainstay series getting newcomers (Mario, DK, Metroid, Pokémon) or a lot of cut content back (Pokémon, Starfox).
To be fair Zelda also got Young Link back and every character significantly reworked, but... it's Zelda. Really felt like a new character could have been in the cards under different circumstances.
Kirby meanwhile just stayed the way it was in Smash 4.
But yeah, picking a boss from those two series specifically felt very intentional in my opinion

However I'll be the first person to say her moveset potential doesn't seem super exciting or even feasible. I can't really envision her moving around in that tight dress.
An easy fix is to give her her mayoral suit.

...This is the part where I bring up my Pauline moveset

Do I have to get the Pauline moveset out again? I'm getting the moveset out again:

Jab: Slaps twice with her leading arm. Like Peach and Daisy's, but stronger and with a little more pop to it. 3%, 5%.
Forward Tilt: Takes off her hat and swats with it. 8%.
Up Tilt: Pauline jumps up with her fist in the air. It's that one motion she does during the New Donk City Festival. 4%.
Down Tilt: Swipes her leg low to the ground. 8%.
Dash Attack: Pauline spins around twice as she moves forward before posing with her hand up. 2.3% (first two hits), 6% (end).

Forward Smash: When this move is used, Pauline will take out a familiar looking hammer. There’s a sweetspot at the head of the hammer. 19% (head), 10% (handle).
Up Smash: Pauline pops up her parasol and opens it when it's above her. This move protects her from attacks from above. 3% (hit 1), 14% (hit 2).
Down Smash: Pauline throws her hat around her in a wide circle, leaving behind a rainbow trail. The hat spins around her twice, with a slightly bigger radius the second time around. 15% (max range), 11% (point blank).

Neutral Aerial: Pauline twirls her purse around her. The animation resembles Palutena's n-air. 1.5% (hits 1-4), 4.5% (hit 5).
Forward Aerial: Pauline takes her hat and swipes it downward, swinging her arm so hard she tumbles forward. This is very similar to Peach and Daisy’s f-air. 17% (hat), 14% (arm).
Back Aerial: Pauline takes her hat and swipes it backward while spinning, hitting twice. 4.7% (hit 1), 5.8% (hit 2).
Up Aerial: Pauline tosses her hat upwards a short distance. 7%.
Down Aerial: Pauline stomps downward with one leg. 8.1%.

Grab: Pauline grabs with one hand.
Pummel: Pauline knees the opponent. 1.4%.
Forward Throw: Pauline pushes the foe away with both hands. This causes the foe to trip, allowing for follow-ups. 4% (hit), 3% (throw).
Back Throw: Grabs the opponent by the arm, and forcibly yanks them around and behind her. 10%.
Up Throw: Pauline will grab the foe, bounce them on her parasol, and toss them up. 7% (hit), 4.2% (throw).
Down Throw: Pauline takes out a barrel and smashes it over the opponent's head. Her most damaging throw. 18%.

Neutral Special—Cap Throw: Pauline throws her hat in front of her like a boomerang. The range is slightly shorter than that of K. Rool’s Crownerang. Her hat spins as it flies, hitting opponents multiple times. If the button is held, the hat will home in on the nearest opponent. Much like Mega Man’s Metal Blade, the hat can be thrown in different directions by flicking the control stick after the button is pressed. Additionally, there's a 1/6 chance that Pauline’s hat will have Bonneter eyes on it when it’s thrown, but this is purely an aesthetic bonus. 5% (initial throw), 1.2% (spinning attack), 3% (return).

Side Special—New Donk Melody: Pauline takes out a microphone and sings a couple of notes. Her music moves slowly forward in the form of up to three music notes in bubbles. If one touches an opponent, they will be forced to taunt, no matter what they were doing. This specific taunt will be non cancelable If an opponent is in midair, they will taunt as soon as they touch the ground, unless they grab a ledge.

Up Special—Jack Lift: Pauline bounces off a jack/spring/whatever those things are called. It’s basically Sonic and Mega Man’s up special, with Pauline being able to act out of it. Other characters can bounce off the jack as well.

Down Special—Mini-Toy: Pauline holds up a capsule with a ? Mark on it. From there, she can cycle through a selection of Mini Toys that act like Bowser Jr.’s Mechakoopas. They don’t explode upon contact with a foe, but they can be attacked and defeated. The available toys are:

Mini-Mario: Walks forward at the same speed as Young Link's walk. Deals 5% if touched.
Mini-Luigi: Walks forward at the same speed as Mini-Mario, but will jump occasionally. Also deals 5% and makes opponents trip if they touch it.
Mini-Peach: Walks forward at the same speed as Lucario's walk. Deals 6%, launching the foe up with a parasol.
Mini-Donkey Kong: The slowest toy, but also the strongest. Deals 12%, attacking with a double-armed swing if touched.
Mini-Toad: The quickest toy, but also the weakest. Deals 4%, attacking with a spin.

Each of the Mini-Toys has a set amount of health, and only 2 can be onscreen at a time. Mario and Luigi both have 15 HP, Peach has 20 HP, DK has 25 HP, and Toad has 10 HP.

Final Smash—New Donk City Concert: A microphone appears in front of Pauline. In a flash, she summons the Super Mario Players to play that hit song, “Jump Up, Super Star!” It’s such a toe-tapping beat, that opponents will be forced to dance (taunt) along, even if they respawn! They won’t be able to recover, either, so go wild! If someone is right next to Pauline when this Final Smash is activated, they'll be launched upwards for 30% with strong knockback by the appearance of the band!

I feel like I'm hearing "Pauline has no moveset potential", which is an argument that has been debunked several times over

...I mean, they could just make Pauline's dress a bit looser instead. Pretty easy fix even then. Just look at Rosalina and the other Princesses.

When it comes to clothing issues, they're some of the easiest fixes to make. You redesign it so the animations work feasibly.

That’s a downgrade if you ask me. You want Kat and Ana to be as important as Beedle and the Wii Fit Board?

And of course that doesn’t excuse their absence because Riki is there too.
Besides that, Latias and Latios, who basically is the same kind of AT, stayed. At least Tingle can be justified in that they returned a stage he's on. Albeit, it's a different Tingle, but still.

So it's an odd cut. The programming is still overall there.

Yeah but don’t they have windboxes and the twin girls don’t?
They do, but it still shares some of the same programming. That also means they take more programming.

I wonder if it's related to the models. Maybe the dragon duo have less polygons to work with or something? It could also be an arbitrary removal as well. Who knows~

Yeah you're right, they could definitely have movesets made up that could be unique but... is it okay to say I personally don't see it? Most Smash movesets that rely on creative liberties are sensible and make sense for the character (C. Falcon being fast and flashy, Sheik being sneaky and ninja-like, etc.) but for the Wario characters... I don't see what they could do. Jimmy T could be the fabled "rhythm character" but that's a niche that could be covered by the infinitely more popular Pauline or the long overdue—according to some—Chorus Kids.
They'd be great! I just don't think moveset feasibility in particular is a worthwhile discussion point because so many characters in the game would be far more generic or not even exist if such a thing mattered in any meaningful way.

Next 3rd party is 100% RE

i will live and die by this statement.

leon is announced during reveal.
Huh. Well.

Bye.

I don't even think Resident Evil is that unlikely. Just betting it on next seems silly.

Either way they’re gone, and definitely not contending with the likes of Mona or Ashley for an upgrade.

I miss them as Assists though, it farmed free KOs. :jojo:

If they did add Leon, Should they go with the more Down to Earth, Grounded, Tanky Controlling RE2 version of Leon, or should they do the Acrobatic, Action Movie Approach that Leon became in both RE4 and especially RE6?

Just a reminder that:

Nemesis > Wesker >>>>>> boring normal human protagonists

Sorry, I don't make the rules. :V
I actually Agree with this, but I will say that I think Leon would be cool because he hasn't been in a Crossover Fighter and he needs it. He's also the Perfect blend of Coolness, Pretty boyness, and Manliness that I think can appeal to all sorts of people.

Which might be apart of why his Games are among the Highest selling in the Series. That being said, I do think Nemesis and Wesker would be more fun Additions in the Context of Smash, and they are cool themselves, so...

I just wanted to show off a really cool Ultimate mod for Cloud made by user Hero-Zero. This is pretty much exactly what I would have loved the Final Fantasy Remake games to have looked like. I think it perfectly captures the look of the original art style from FFVII in a 3D model.

How would you guys feel if the next Smash game went with a cel shaded style like this where the characters aim to look like their original artworks? I think it looks awesome and I’d love to see the whole game in a similar style.

I think doing everyone's original artwork style would be too clashing, but something I've been thinking about is like to celebrate Smash being 25+, the next game adopts a unified artstyle resembling Smash 64's artwork.

Not like, 64 era designs and proportions, mind you, just that comic book aesthetic if not slightly edged up.

Like a happy medium between Smash 64 artwork and Mario Strikers artwork.

I don't know if the Main Game should look like this, but I think it would be cool if the Next Smash had the option to change what the game looks like, between something like this, or even something like N64's Blockiness

At the Very least, I would like to see the Next Smash have Brighter Lighting more Similar to Smash 4 than Ultimate's, Something Brighter. If they did do a Look like this or something more Comic Book like that's cool also

On that note, Since we do know Nintendo talked to Arc System Works, maybe they could have given them pointers on how to achieve a look like this to either them or Namco, especially since I think they might want to keep some of the Cel-Shading if they added Sol Badguy or something like that. Though I know there are rumors that Arc Systems had somewhat of a Falling out with Bandai Namco, so who knows

The Kunio Spirit event that was Added back when Ultimate was getting Frequent Spirit Events. It's the only content Arc System Works got, but considering that their Biggest I.Ps were no where to be seen, I speculate more is going on

It'd be RE4 Leon because he has all the sauce and quips to borrow from that people love.

Your more survival horror style RE character would be RE3 Jill.

Chris would be a hybrid but his action stuff is just him punching stuff really hard, then you get Wesker with his Matrix **** because Wesker without Chris is lame

I'd like to think that whoever gets in as an RE rep, that the suplexes make it in as a throw.
Even if seeing Jill do that is hilarious.

If multiple RE reps could actually get in at once I think Jill makes the most sense for a classic styled character with Claire as an echo. Then Chris and Leon would be your modern reps with Chris and Leon having a sort of Ryu and Ken parallel going on. Not in the sense that one would be e clone of the other, but Chris is slower, punch man and Leon is faster, kick guy. And then if I could really have things my way Wesker, Nemesis and Hunk would all be playable too.

As for modern modern RE, I like Ethan but I honestly wouldn't be very excited if he got picked over any of the classic characters. I'd love a stage based on Village and maybe throw in Lady D as an AT for the memes.

And a boss for classic mode. RE has no shortage of great choices there.

I don't know how Jill doing them can be any more hilarious than Ashley doing them.
And the reason is...because she's the daughter of the President of the great United States of America!

Random thought/realization but now I really want Leon specifically so we can get an RE equivalent to Codec calls/Palutena's guidance where he radios Hunnigan

Also, I need "Hey, it's that dog" but referring to either Duck Hunt or Isabelle.
