I kinda feel like I'm in the minority when I say that I love Terry's trucker asthetic.

I can't wait for Maximillion doods reaction.

yeah max is going to have a great reaction, but it being a blind reaction would have been better. Kinda wish all these leaks didn't happen now

As someone who likes both Terry and Hayabusa, I'm not sure why but I feel a bit...disappointed? I suppose it's the surprise factor. Joker, a SNK rep, and Hayabusa are all things that I would've wanted but saw them as the underdogs. Having them get officially revealed is such a fulfilling thing, but having them leaked way ahead just feels kinda boring?

thats the downside of the smash community: leaking is so massive in this community. I myself don't mind seeing leaks, but i admit its more exciting to just be surprised. but not enough that i want to distamnce myself from threads I am on a lot and people i talk to.

Oh he'll be distinct from those two alright. As far as specials go Power Wave is a ground based projectile and likely won't have anywhere near as much utility as Hadouken does (I wonder what will happen when he uses it in the air). Burn Knuckle is a burst attack rather than a simple combo extender like Tatsumaki Senpukyaku. Rising Tackle is kind of like Shoryuken but it's not the same and also I'd like to see them try to explain how Terry can grab the edge by launching himeself at it foot first. Crack Shoot has absolutely no similarities to Focus Attack whatsoever. They could also give him a super meter, which would shake things up considerably though it's not guaranteed that they'll do this.

I'm not even disappointed with Terry being included. I'm disappointed in Terry because it has a high likelihood of outright killing speculation for FP5

It would be interesting if his spot dodge was just a side step on the Z-Axis instead of intangibility. They probably won't do that because of the flat stages though.

Sex appeal has its merits but for Smash she will need to be toned to fit the e10. I feel without that aspect she ranks with the other SNK characters in terms of popularity. She got 4th in the popularity poll so that seems to be the case. In that regard google trends results are inflated because people like how she looks but her look would change in smash.


Nah, you need something extra. She has her own brand of sexy and is cool as a fighting character. It's not easy to make a popular character.

Well, but I’m just saying people like to downplay a lot how popular Mai is because of her sex appeal, when that’s a huge part of her character, and it doesn’t take away from her popularity at all. Mai is a sex symbol in gaming, and is popular outside of it because of it. That’s all I’m saying. It’s easy to accept she’s a major gaming icon because of it, but people like to deny that fact because somehow it “doesn’t count” for then for some reason. I agree Terry is more synonymous with SNK as a brand, I’m just saying as a cult icon, Mai extends well beyond that, earning her a spot for her status.
That said I agree on everything else you said. I’m just happy SNK is getting a character. I’ve always liked Terry, and knowing Sakurai, he’ll probably choose someone like Terry to bring SNK content to Smash.

Something like Smash x Fatal Fury.
Terry as a character. Has his iconic red vest, and his brown jacket alt.
Brings a Fatal Fury stage.
Some music.
Mii Costumes - Mai, Geese, and Kyo as Brawler, Nakoruru and Haomaru for Swordfighter, Marco and a couple other Metal Slug characters for Gunner.
Buncha spirits from SNK IP.

I can see it already. It’s the most Sakurai thing to do.

Terry will probably have some Super Meter gimmick for EX moves.

Final Smash will be some cinematic team move to pay homage to KoF.

I mean, not if the porn searches don't result in a desire to see a character in Smash.

I know there's characters I would look up in that context that I have no care whether or not they get into Smash.

Yeah, but the argument was never about whether people in Smash wanted her or not. I brought up Mai two months ago literally because no one was talking about her, despite being a rather notorious gaming icon that was flying under everyone’s radars.

Lots of characters get in Smash that no one here really wants, but still merit a spot.

I hope Buster Wolf isn’t his Final Smash, as I never use Smash balls, and I wanna hear him say ARE YOU OKAY?! every time I play him. Buster Wolf, Power Geyser, and Power Dunk could all work as Smash attacks though.

Also, power Geyser is his strongest move in most games, Buster Wolf his most famous.

Because obviously you’re not following gaming closely enough. The NeoGeo was a one of a kind console, able to do 1:1 arcade ports before anyone else could and was supported for 14(?) years, longer than any other console. SNK always had an eye for artistry, having some of the most beautiful and detailed pixel art ever, and their titles were all smash hits from Metal Slug, to Fatal Fury, to KoF, to Sam Sho, to Last Blade, list goes on and on and on. Their fighting games specifically being regarded as some of the most quality ones in the genre.

SNK was also particularly big in the arcade scene as well. They innovated heavily to make their arcade units more affordable to business owners, which helped their brand proliferate.

Unfortunately, two things were the downfall of SNK. Their inability to properly transition to 3D. And the fall of arcades in the west. I can understand why most people born after the 90s wouldn’t be familiar with SNK. It’s a similar to story to Rareware or Westwood. Industry titans during the golden era who fell into irrelevance after the 00s. They characters and brands are still beloved to this day the world around though.

I never knew anyone that had the NeoGeo. It must not have been sold in Tennessee. I have never heard of any of those titles. I remember NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, N64, Gamecube, Playstation 1-2, and eventually Xbox as being the big consoles. (Sega Saturn was kind of big but the SEGA systems after the Genesis were mostly uncommon). Ironically, the console that was probably the most prevalent growing up was the Gameboy.

I dunno why people think the trailers are all gonna be sequels to each other now. They did that ONCE so far. For a Rare joke. I don't see them doing that again for characters for completely unrelated companies.

You never heard of it because it was the console that rich kids had. That thing was freaking expensive in america.

For all the people disappointed with Terry being fighter #4: i understand. That's the feeling i had when Joker, Hero and Banjo were announced - characters from games that i knew, but never played. That's the hardest thing when it comes to add third party characters, you can never expect to please everyone.

By the way, despite my complaints, I still want to praise Sakurai and Nintendo for Ultimate. Overall, a great game. It has some flaws but still a great game!

Regarding the fan disappointed about the leaks, I can understand. Nintendo has been very slow about making some of the announcements. I am wondering why it takes a full year to make only 5 characters + stages when most Smash games with between 30-60 characters and stages are made in 2 years. I think it is because we are getting the extra modes like stage builder. I am actually just as excited about these extra modes as I am the new characters . I didn't like Joker but was hyped by the release because I got the Knuckles and Tails Mii costumes and Stage Builder.

There is a lot more man power and budget put into the game when its being made as oppose to post launch content development which has far less of both.

I’m usually disappointed to learn about characters ahead of time, but I’m kinda glad in this case. Now I know what to expect for the next reveal and can manage my excitement accordingly. I’d be really disappointed if I was waiting through a whole Direct in anticipation and got surprised by Terry, knowing he’s coming will definitely make it easier to accept.

Sakurai is a fan of King of Fighters and played the games. Plus its among Smash's inspirations such as the shield blocking. Combined with Terry's legacy and icon he is being the poster boy of SNK as a whole.

You should actually be surprised he didn't get in sooner as with Dragon Quest.

Yeah, but we all know how the community here is. It's gonna go straight to "Any speculated character besides Hayabusa is wrong and not worth discussing". The only thing that would kill that mentality is some other credible source saying Hayabusa's not in.

I never had the Neo Geo but I do have dozens of Neo Geo games via Wii Virtual Console.

Thanks to Wii Virtual Console, I have a passing familiarity with Fatal Fury games, Art of Fighting games, King of Fighters games, Samurai Shodown games, World Heroes games, Last Blade games, Metal Slug games, Magical Drop games, Karnov’s Revenge, Burning Fight, and Ninja Master’s.

I like playing fighting games and beat ‘em up games with my brother. That’s why I got so many Neo Geo games in addition to Street Fighter games, Double Dragon games, Final Fight games, and Streets of Rage games from Wii Virtual Console. We just mash buttons and figure out how to do special moves... and then we spam those special moves against each other. Good times.

I guess that’s why I’m excited at the possibility that SNK could actually get a character in Smash.
