Some news from Sabi discord: The tweet that said that Terry is the SNK rep isn't from her, tho she says that it's a source she trust.

A 3 character SNK rep doesnt make sense because that's not even how the tag system works in KOF, it's nothing like Marvel vs Capcom.

It does work like that in 2003 and XI. However, they're not the most popular installments, so I can see the confusion.

Probably the last I'm gonna comment on Sabi because this is exhausting and getting us nowhere. I dont believe the Terry + Hayabusa 4chan post simply because of the "continued trailer" theory is a part of it. It was something that only came up because of Banjo's reveal and that in itself was a heartwarming tribute to Rare. There is no pattern. Hero got a completely brand new trailer. Why would they start cheaping out and reuse assets for the final bits of DLC?

Wonder if it'll be Smash x Fatal Fury or Smash x King of Fighters

I honestly hope its more then just Terry, as while he is unique in his games i just don't know what amazing thing he would bring to smash you know? I think a tag team mechanic could be interesting, even though thats not exactly how KoF games function... but SNK heroines did that....

This is going to be sweet. Though I didn't play the SNK fighting games much, I loved the Fatal Fury animation itself. Terry Bogard is a great choice. Though I can hope we get other SNK Spirits, like Metal Slug.

I know Terry is different fromin terms of moveset but I don't know he just sounds like coming across as another like him especially in appearance.

I do understand and get his importance and legacy in gaming though being the mascot of SNK and King of Fighters as among the inspirations for Smash such as shield blocks.

Then again maybe that's just the Death Battle episode perhaps. I don't know...

I wanted at least one female character in this pass and if this just leads off to the 4chan leak then it's quite a disappointing end for me considering I thought the pass started off quite strong.

If Mai is being searched up for “other” reasons, doesn’t that help her case in regard to how popular she is?

I always see people argue that “Mai is only popular cause of her appearance or how sexy she is,” but I always fail to see how that detracts from her popularity. Like a “it doesn’t count,” but it’s on the contrary. Mai’s cult status extends FAR beyond gaming BECAUSE of her sexuality. She’s a sex symbol akin to say Lara Croft for example. Right? Many people know Lara from her films or even just general cultural impact. It’s a similar story with Mai, people becoming familiar with her without even knowing what KoF or Fatal Fury are, just cause they like the way the character looks.

That’s always been my argument for why Mai is the most popular of the bunch, I, and I know many other people too, who aren’t really into KoF, knew about Mai YEARS before I ever even picked up an SNK game not called Metal Slug. And it’s not even cause porn or anything like that, she’s just that prolific, she shows up in a lot of stuff cause she’s very iconic all around.

I never really understood the idea of why “it wouldn’t count” Terry, Kyo, etc... are all popular SNK characters within the SNK fandom and even gaming. But Mai is just popular in general, with a reach that extends well beyond gaming into stuff like fashion, modeling, figure collecting, and “other” stuff. Her cultural impact is significantly greater than the rest of them.

Sex appeal has its merits but for Smash she will need to be toned to fit the e10. I feel without that aspect she ranks with the other SNK characters in terms of popularity. She got 4th in the popularity poll so that seems to be the case. In that regard google trends results are inflated because people like how she looks but her look would change in smash.

Nah, you need something extra. She has her own brand of sexy and is cool as a fighting character. It's not easy to make a popular character.

I get SNK is important, and agree a rep fits. And I know Terry would play differently then Ryu or Ken or Falcon. Its just I wanted someone more... flashy and unique? That the right words?

Also, I would not like to end on Ryu. That would stink. And why are people so assuming its going to countue the Ken/Inceniroar trailer? So far only the banjo one did, and that was because It was litterally another Rare character joning, and both were characters fans wanted for years. it fit to reuse that trailer.

So Terry is a fighter... so? I see a trailer being more unique then that for something like SNK. A parody of that opening works.

So I don't think Ryu is set, despite Sabi trying to push that hard. People are saying all these games Sakurai is a huge fan of, but has anyone confirmed he has talked a lot about Ninja Giaden?

I'm still kinda hoping there is more to this then JUST terry. Like, maybe a Duel Partner or something, a true tag team character? I know people say the 3v3 thing and pokemon trainer like would be too much, and maybe it would, but what if its just a Duo, and its a lot more like Zelda/Shiek swapping? Terry and Kyo, or Terry and Mai, the 2 big names of SNK and KoF, teaming up for combo attacks for their smashes or grabs. Maybe Terry is out and Mai assists for attacks from the background, and down B swaps them out, and the opposite happens?

Ryu and his company Tecmo I say has quite some solid history with Nintendo. He and his game started on the NES and among the last NES characters to supposedly be added. He more then earns his place in Smash if you ask me and would understand why he'd be added.

I agree he would be a great fit for smash, i said so a few days ago. I just don't want him to end the fighters pass is all. I want others more then him, even though he deserves it greatly.

The question is want to see, not most likely. A lot of people voting went for the more diverse pass in both a playstyle sense and character sense. I think most people have been fairly sensible with Terry and Kyo being the front runners, but that doesn't mean we can't want Nakoruru instead.

Ryu makes a lot of sense even without the rumors, just look what he has going for him.

Last of the major platforming mascots for the NES that has yet to be included in Smash.

The Wii U port of Ninja Gaiden 3 was co-published by Nintendo and included a lot of enhancements and additions.

Koei Tecmo is the last major Japanese publisher to not have a rep in Smash.

Nintendo's relationship with Koei Tecmo these days is a lot more closer then say their relationship with Activision and even Capcom. Just look at the amount of games they worked on together.

Metroid Other M (Team Ninja, who is owned by Koei Tecmo developed the game and the Ninja Gaiden series)

They co-own the Fatal Frame IP together.

Omega Force (another developer Koei Tecmo owns) developed spin offs for both Zelda and Fire Emblem in the vein of their Dynasty Warrior series.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 was published by Nintendo and developed by Team Ninja.

Fire Emblem Three Houses was co-developed by Koei Tecmo and even used the Dynasty Warriors engine.

These are the reasons as to why I think Ryu has a very high chance.

Honestly, after Terry, i'll be happy with whatever they throw for #5. I wanted another character from a fighting franchise, like Tekken or Mortal Kombat, but i never thought we could get Terry Bogard! That's insane.

No joke, when I was a kid obsessed with KOF99 and later Maximum Impact, I wanted nothing more than to copy Terry's style. He was the coolest dude in the world to me. He's probably why I've started wearing hats nowadays - the first time he did the classic hat throw in MI I lost my mind. Coolest dude ever.
