We talk about most wanted characters a lot, but who is everyone's least wanted? Mine would be Jibanyan. Very much not a fan of Yo-Kai Watch and I don't want it anywhere near Smash.

Not really not wanting, but I really don't care about Shantae.

Don't care for her games, either. No way in hell you'll make me play the games unless you give me the money to buy them.

Everything about his design frustrates me on an aesthetic level, and I don't want Disney involved in the game, even tangentially. Additionally, the fact that so many people want him frustrates me even further.

All that said, I've never played the games, and many of my friends with similar tastes as me have played the games and love the games. I'm sure if I actually gave the games a shot, I'd enjoy them and probably like Sora but...

I don't know. Every once in a while, it just feels good to irrationally hate something everyone else loves.

I just don't really get the whole "Disney" involved issue when its such a superficial thing. They have some amount of say in how a character is represented and they license the character out in a specific deal that involves some profit for them... that's really about it and it's always come off as a little odd given how little the parent company will actually be involved or even really profiting from Smash (like Smash is pennies of profit for basically any company compared to other revenue sources, but the advertising angle is admittedly quite large for the character/series in question). And Disney in particular doesn't seem like they've been any worse than Microsoft, Capcom, Square Enix, and especially ****ing Konami who are already in the game.

Fandoms make or break some peoples' support or favor of characters a lot.

Oh, I agree, it's absolutely superficial. My issue has nothing to do with the effect they would have on the game, and more to do with my increasing distaste with Disney's ever-expanding reach in the entertainment world.

They own Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, Fox, on and on and on and on. They'll take everything they can, and I just want Sakurai to go, "No. You can't have Smash. Not even a tiny pinky toe dipped into the pool."

They'd have no influence on Smash, but I don't want them to be able to say they're even a part of it. Lol

While there are a lot of characters I don't care about, I really don't have any issue with any pf them getting into Smash given that I have already about 70+ characters I enjoy a lot.

In regards of fighter 5, I just wish a relatively small character so people can stop gatekeeping a lot of the discussions to certain characters.

Any other character is completely fine by me. Yes even Roblox or Fortnite

Although if Sakurai said “you either take a new Fire Emblem character, or I delete your main” then I would choose Tatsumi, as I found him to be a really sick archer.

I'll never understand and get why he's treated as an exception just because he's popular. By adding him in opens the flood gates for others like Batman, Spongebob, Shrek and Spider-Man giving those people more the reason to begin requesting them as well.

In terms of first party, Isaac from Golden Sun, Ray from Custom Robo, and Akira from Astral Chain if they count as first party.
Least wanted third parties are Sora and Kazuma Kiryu.

Remember to BE RESPECTFUL about this, people. You know the mods will be watching this discussion closely, and every character is someone's favorite.

That being said, the only characters I can say I feel absolutely against are anyone not from a video game, I.E. Goku and friends. I just really don't want non-video game characters in Smash, it will never not feel weird and unfitting to me. Thankfully, Sakurai still seems to have the same belief.

In terms of actual game characters though, uhhh... honestly, I got nothing. No one really stand out as me going "ABSOLUTELY NOT". If there's anything Smash 4 taught me, it's that characters I "don't want" usually end up being the coolest. I thought and would always be INSANELY boring picks, but Pac-Man has become my favorite casual character and me gushing over Terry should be evidence enough that I've grown very fond of fighting game characters in Smash. I've grown to believe Sakurai could make a stick figure exciting to play as, so no one should really be excluded.

I believe that Overwatch and Fornite characters have not earned the right to be in Smash. Aside from popularity, I feel that both IPs don't have much of a legacy to merit their inclusion. If popularity was a factor, we would have gotten Minecraft Steve instead of Banjo and Kazooie. Speaking of Minecraft, while I can see the moveset potential for Steve, I can't envision how he would move in Smash without looking awkward. There are other characters I don't think would work without hiccups [COUGH] HEIHACHI [COUGH], but I rather not get into a fight over my thoughts.

Generally I'm open to anything reasonable (as in, not things that wouldn't get in anyway, like non-video game characters or shovelware characters like Bubsy), but Earthworm Jim probably.

While I understand why you and others would dislike him, I'd be down for Sora. He walks a fine line between "anime swordsman" and "cereal mascot". Also, the idea of Disney of all companies getting a rep sounds hilarious IMO.

You know, Smash after Ultimate speculation will never not be terrifying to me.

With Ultimate getting so many characters added, nobody knows what the roster of that would even look like, but it could have anywhere between small but significant cuts to a complete overhaul that leaves the vast majority of the cast in the dust. The status of third parties is in minor questioning at best, but possibly jeopardy. Nobody knows who is safe and who isn't: I believe nobody who isn't Mario/Link/Kirby is safe, others believe all N64 characters are safe, still others believe Melee/Brawl mainstays are safe. We don't even know if Sakurai will be at the helm.

DLC would likely be long like Ultimate's, but at a ratio of 5 - 1, veterans to newcomers. Assuming the Veterans are mostly Ultimate direct ports with minor touch up. Anything as significant as Smash 4 to Ultimate changes could change the ratio and lower the potential amount of time and resources left. Especially if these are DLC third parties.

Many support groups for newcomers will have to compete with veterans again. Imagine trying to push for, say, Arle or Kiryu when most people want Bayonetta or Joker back. Dixie Kong's support base would be basically fractured into three campaigning for the return of K. Rool or Diddy. Nobody would want ANY Pokémon character besides Jigglypuff or Mewtwo again.

That, or miraculously, everyone is here 2 happens. Great. But even that isn't perfect... because it would likely mean no newcomers at all, at least for the base game. So if you want a new character, you're gonna have to wait. And wait. And wait. Then the game comes out and DLC starts. So now you WILL have to hope you get lucky with what's very likely to be extremely tight DLC spots. Smash 4 level at best.

Smash Ultimate's DLC cycle being much longer than anticipated is a great thing, because this won't be the looming thought over everybody's minds. But there will come a day where we have to face the unknown demon that is Ultimate's follow up.

Actually, in the event of a roster reset I'd expect most people to be anti-Jigglypuff since the Pokémon stopped being relevant to the Pokémon games since at least Brawl.

I don't really know if I have a least wanted. I had 3 characters I really wanted to see in Smash Ultimate: Ridley, Eight, and Lycanroc. I got 2 of them in and the ship for Lycanroc has unfortunately sailed, so anything from here on out is a bonus. I guess Edelgard, but that's only because I'd prefer Byleth. If I had to choose between her or no Three Houses character, I'd definitely take Edelgard.

The Disney argument is ridiculous, I can understand the concern about how much they’d charge for Sora but one needs to remember that companies like Epic Games and even SEGA negotiated with this very company to include Thanos with several Marvel characters in Fortnite and Wreck It Ralph in Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing.

I suppose you think they were “different” cases and that Sora is somehow impossible for one of gaming’s biggest crossovers just because you subjectively don’t want him, people who think Sora in Smash will give Disney interest in buying Nintendo need to realize it doesn’t work like that.

Nintendo is a Japanese company while Disney is from the US, so it would actually be illegal for them to buy out Nintendo because of international trade laws and Nintendo is a hugely successful company who makes millions and millions of dollars every year, they’re not selling themselves out anytime soon.

I also despise the “I don’t want X character because I don’t want *insert scummy company* involved”, it’s stupid because of all the current companies like Square, Konami, Capcom, and even Microsoft who have all either done terrible business practices or are notoriously greedy when all it does in the end is gatekeep so many potential characters.

Like so what if something like Activistion is part of Smash? You’re not playing as CEO Bobby Kotick, you’re playing as Crash freaking Bandicoot.

The only character I dread is Jibanyan, not because I dislike the character, but because it would be heartbreaking to have him get in over my most wanted Professor Layton.

I’m generally fine with most suggested characters, at worst I’ll maybe have some mild disappointment that it’s not a character I personally care for. That said, Lloyd Irving seems kind of stylistically boring to me.
