Especially since it was the old Brawl Dojo.

Back then, news dropped when it dropped.

So Sonic was a literal "Surprise he's in!" case.
Oh boy, the old Brawl Dojo days were something trully special. I remember that characters were usually revealed at mondays and i used to hit F5 so hard until the page was updated. I nearly had a heart attack the day Sonic got revealed. I've spent the whole day talking to friends about that and they were like "what? There's no way that's possible". I know many people dislikes Brawl, but i have fond memories of playing it.

Still up Peach's dress.
Really? Because it makes me not care about their opinion at all. If they absolutely hate it, but still spent so much time and money on it, makes me think there's something wrong with them.
I'll hear em out before making that judgement at least. Might have a decent reason?

I gave both Dark Souls and Skyrim a bloody good go each before deciding neither game was for me... sure didn't buy either twice though.

I don't know how y'all remember your exact reactions to all these trailers. I barely remember my reaction to the Ridley one. I mean, I do remember following Brawl Dojo religiously, but hell if I remember how I reacted to Sonic and Snake.

A multiplayer game like Overwatch changes with updates and content. I wouldn't blame him if he hated a game that he spent a lot of time on because he's dissatisfied with the developers and their vision for the game, especially if the game changes for the worse over time.

Can't speak for the poster, but it's fairly common for one to put large amounts of time into a game designed to be an esport only to realize after wasting hundreds of hours on it that they weren't really enjoying it ever and dislike the game for that reason.

This was the exact point I was going to make. We live in an age where it's possible to spend 100s of hours in a game, and have all of that time mean absolutely mean nothing a few months later when developers fundamentally change how you can play the game. Games are not "stagnant" media any more, they evolve as Games as a Service becomes a more prevalent way of approaching customers.

I like Overwatch a lot still personally, but they have made changes I have greatly disliked as well. Most Games as a Service titles have done similar things that have frustrated me as a player, Destiny being chief among them to the point where I was genuinely less interested in playing it despite having put numerous hours upon hours in the game.

I'm curious now. It's one thing to dislike a game but to dislike a game and buy it twice and pour hundreds of hours in, there has to be a reason you're so against it.

...is it the microtransactions?
The game is an unbalanced mess. Blizzard literally has their heads up their asses whenever they design a new hero, their latest mistake being Sigma. Blizzard also banned my account that I had spent playing the game on for years because they decided to falsely accuse me of hacking when I’ve never touched a hack in my life, not to mention they heavily profit from that because if they ban someone, the only way they can play again is by rebuying the game on a new account, which I did. Overwatch is one of if not the most frustrating experience I’ve ever had in gaming. And yet I’ve spent so much time playing it because I’m addicted to it.

That’s why.

Swap Shulk and Hero's trailers in placement and that's it.

Sorry I'm right and you're all wrong. >:^P

600 pages woo!

Anyways, remember that unreleased Medusa (Rare) AR card for Kid Icraus Uprising?

Maybe the unreleased AR card will come back when Nintendo announces that Medusa would be a DLC fighter for Smash Ultimate?

Not sure if I'd "prefer" today's ill of "Games as a Service" or yesteryear's ill of "$60 Nintendo Hard difficulty - or if you're on the Arcade, too bad, insert another quarter to play!" Neither ill assure a game's quality either to top it off, AVGN is living proof of the latter even if he exaggerates some of it for comedy.

It's worth keeping in mind that the industry has been overwhelmingly commercial since the Magnavox Odyssey / original Pong. We're only 3 years away from Pong turning 50 years old. Point is, it's kinda hard to avoid those pitfalls in the first place.

Did we get the unreleased eCards for Pokémon Colosseum when Pokémon Trainer was announced for Brawl?

I hate to be that guy, but it's not happening.

Going to be honest, its hard to tell apart most of the trailers from the tiers given some of the images presented get easily lost.

As for me, Brawl opening trailer and Everyone is Here are pretty much the best ones.

Medusa only became really demanded recently. There's a reason why Viridi is the one who got a Mii costume.

I don’t have my computer back yet so I can’t post a single image (it would have to be multiple) but my trailer rankings are as follows:
S - EVERYONE IS HERE, Joker, Hero
A - Shulk, Terry, Robin/Lucina, Snake, Simon/Richter, Mega Man
B - Ken/Incineroar, Cloud, Ridley, “Inkling” (wasn’t so much an actual Inkling trailer as it was Ultimate’s initial announcement), King K. Rool, Palutena, Little Mac
C - Duck Hunt, Ryu, Charizard/Greninja, Bayonetta, Isabelle, Bowser Jr., Banjo & Kazooie, Sonic (Brawl), Villager (+ SSB4 initial announcement), Rosalina & Luma, Mii Fighters
D - Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy, Wii Fit Trainer, PAC-MAN, Piranha Plant, Sonic (SSB4), Corrin

S tier speaks for itself: the most AMAZING trailers regardless of character. And of course, EVERYONE IS HERE.
A tier consists of either characters I actively wanted (Shulk, Snake, Simon) or well done trailers in general (Robin, Terry, the rest in that tier)
B tier were more passive wants with slightly more underwhelming trailers (Palutena, Cloud) or characters I weren’t that invested in but got to admit their trailers were pretty neat (like K. Rool)
C tier is well... meh. No strong feelings one way or the other. Though, Reggie and Iwata duking it out in the Mii trailer is something I will hold dear in my memories...
D tier is largely just the laziest trailers in general, using pre existing assets like the Fates FMVs for Corrin, or just no CGI, all gameplay and nothing really stands out. Also, Sonic really didn’t need two trailers lmao

First Brawl trailer got my hyped over Metaknight and Wario's bike crash.

I saw the Sonic trailer at 7am before school - I yelled and woke my whole house up. I watched the trailer over and over until school, then came home and watched the trailer over and over again.

Next trailer that got me that hyped was Banjo.

The best trailers were those that came as complete surprises because no leaker spoiled it for me

So :ultsonic::ultmegaman::ultwiifittrainer::ultrobin::ultcloud::ultbayonetta::ultrichter::ultkrool::ultpiranha::ultjoker:

Though, some trailers that were fun to watch despite me knowing the character ahead of time were :ultlittlemac::ultmiifighters::ultroy::ultryu::ulthero::ultbanjokazooie:

I highly doubt that we're gonna get Medusa, even if it would be extremely neat. As far as I can tell, demand for her only really began to pop up after last year's E3. Before then, people were probably more against her than anything, especially with back during the Smash 4 days, Kid Icarus was right up there with Fire Emblem in terms of getting the "overrepresentation" argument tossed at it.

And like I said, Viridi has a costume and not Medusa not because of plans to make the latter playable, but because Viridi had more fans, but the Smash devs didn't have time to make her playable on top of her already being a hazard. (And yes, I think disabling a stage's functionality would be a bigger deal than disabling an assist trophy.)

In terms of trailers, I really liked all of the character reveal trailers. But if there was one trailer I could pick as my personal fave, it would be Brawl's reveal trailer back in E3 2006.

I remembered when I first saw the trailer, I loved the way each of the new characters were presented from Meta-Knight, Pit, Zero Suit Samus and Wario's appearances. But I felt, Snake's surprise appearance as Smash's first guest character is what made me felt that this was the best reveal ever.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I hope we get a lot more of 3rd party Mii costumes (Dante or Doomguy comes to my mind as interesting choices), Sans was well received and I think is a great way to represent even more franchises in Smash.
I know we talk about full-fledged characters, but do you have any "predictions" on new Mii costumes?

All trailers are a blast for me, though my favorite is hands down Joker at the Game Awards. It was the first time I felt that some of those reaction videos could be legitimate because I was screaming at the top of my lungs when he flipped the envelope around. Even Brawl's reveal or Sonic's reveal couldn't match it. My never-ever pipe dream actually made it - as the first pass character! I was elated.

Everyone Is Here is close, especially because I became a massive fan of Metal Gear so seeing Snake back after I failed to appreciate him fully the first time drove me to tears, but Joker was the first time I had a true impossible most-wanted realized.

If we get Dragonborn as our Bethesda rep (which I really hope) then I think Doomguy would make for a great Mii Costume choice, especially since he's fully helmeted and would be able to look exactly like the intended character akin to Sans. The costume could come with a song that could play on Metroid stages as well.

The reason why Sans was well-received is because he came with a new Megalovania remix, the Mii's height and proportions are a good enough fit for him, and the mask completely obscures the Mii's head and Sans' facial expressions are still some variant of his default smile anyway.

And how shocking it was to see Undertale content in Smash, of course.

I hope more Mii costumes in the future come with a song like Sans did.

If Phoenix is not going to be a playable fighter, I hope that Sakurai and his team can give us a Mii costume and a version of "Pursuit ~ Cornered"

So do you guys think DLC fighter 5 will be revealed in November with Terry's release or not until the VGA in December?

I'm betting that a small bit of the fighter's stage will be revealed in this November and the full reveal of the fighter at Febuary 2020, because I wanted Sakurai and Nintendo to keep Challenger pack #5 as a surprise.

I think Mii Costumes are a good way to incorporate characters who weren't chosen for inclusion, or just aren't notable enough to be included. Indie characters immediately come to mind (Shantae over Mii Fighter, Quote & Reimu over Mii Gunner, and Steve over Mii Swordfighter) alongside characters who wouldn't get another chance (Kyo over Mii Fighter, Dovahkin over Mii Swordfighter if we get DOOM Slayer, Heihachi/Lloyd if they're not actually playable, Geno, etc.).

But making Mii Costumes for the sake of Mii Costumes with music is kinda dumb.
So do you guys think DLC fighter 5 will be revealed in November with Terry's release or not until the VGA in December?
Fighter #5 with Terry and Extra Fighter #1 at the VGAs.

So you're betting on something because you want it?

Don't go to Vegas.

I think there will be a gap between Terry's release and Fighter #5's reveal. This may be cynical of me, but announcing anyone else before Terry drops would take whatever hype he has away immediately

Sans was well received cause for the most part people unanimously agreed that Undertale getting representation was so out there and likely to not happen that when it did and when it was really well done people were ecstatic. I saw a lot of support for Undertale stuff in Smash but for the most part people think and continue to think Indies will not happen.

Sans getting a Mii Costume with Music is kind of a miracle if you think about it we've gotten an Indie as an Assist, We've gotten Spirits for Indie characters but not a Mii Costume nor playable and most people doubt that Indies will be playable so Sans getting a Mii Costume is most likely the closest we'll get to a playable indie character.

He's kind of the exception not the rule for how Mii Costumes should and could be done but I could also be wrong. Also as for characters that could fit with having one of those I guess Geno could totally get an upgraded Mii Costume with Music if they don't make him into a playable character though I'm totally hoping he'll be a playable character over here.

I’m really hoping Sans is a lesson learned for future Mii costumes as in wanting a full fledged model of the character with a proper mask instead of a half-***ed cosplay showing the Mii’s face.

Skull Kid technically did it first but Sans pretty much everyone aware of this issue.

If Steve isn’t a full fighter, despite very well being highly notable and even being called notable alongside Alex by one of Mojang’s writers on the website, I will deal with a mii costume even if it looks bad due to dumb bendy limbs and not fitting him at all. It’d still suck though. Better come with a “Minecraft” remix or a “Sweden” one.

I’d also prefer Sans as a full character, I only got hyped for the costume because I never expected him or Undertale to get in at all and he actually looks good while the Gunner’s moves make some sense minus the lack of bones. The Swordfighter could make sense for Steve (minus stuff like the ninja star or whatever it was) but it’d still be one item out of countless others including plenty of unique ones he could incorporate, and it wouldn’t have unique animations so it’d still look bad and wouldn’t do him justice.

Honestly? There will never be a reveal that can live up to the hype of "EVERYONE IS HERE!" that wasn't only the biggest mic-drop reveal they could've possibly done but in my opinion it's the biggest moment in Smash history it can never be replicated or topped as that reveal was the most exciting thing Smash has ever done or at least in my opinion. That said here's what my tier list would look like:

S-Tier: EVERYONE IS HERE!, K. Rool reveal, Banjo reveal, Inkling/New Smash game announcement, Sonic reveal.

A-Tier: Cloud reveal, Mega Man reveal, Ridley reveal, Pac-Man reveal, Snake reveal/Brawl announcement.

B-Tier: Ryu reveal, Hero reveal, Terry reveal, Joker reveal, Sm4sh reveal, Bayo reveal.

C-Tier: Wii Fit trainer reveal, Isabelle reveal.

D-Tier: Kencineroar reveal, Plant reveal.

F-Tier: Corrin reveal.
