How popular is Touhou in Japan, if I may ask? I am very curious.

Does Touhou line up with Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Splatoon, and Pokemon in Japan?

And isn't there this character that is basically Dio Brando?

I am quite interested in Reimu for some reason.

The more i look at the reference to the Nibelheim fire, the more it looks like the fire behind DOES NOT belong to any stage that comes to mind. Way too detailed from the angle used.

Yep, i'm thinking that's a victory pose.
If it's a victory pose, this is perfect.

That is what I was thinking.

It would be so cool if it was, but I doubt it. I hope I am proven wrong.

Touhou's ****in' huge over there. It's the only indie game I know that rents out an entire convention center like twice a year just for fans to meet up and sell their fan **** to one another.

Probably, but in theory it could be from his stage after Meteor hits the ground.

It is pretty popular in Japan and it seems to be almost big as those titles. Also Izayoi Sakuya is the Dio Brando esque one with the time manipulation.

If another Animal Crossing character got in, should it be K.K. Slider, Tom Nook, or someone else? I'd root for Phyllis, she's already got that no nonsense energy and ain't about to deal with PK Fire.
I know I probably look biased, but definitely Tom Nook. I know K.K. is technically one of the first characters you see in the Gamecube game, but Tom Nook has a much stronger presence over the course of three games.

When Banjo-Kazooie walks in, do you hear Grunty's theme?
Why yes, it's the very first thing you hear when Banjo walks in the lair. :yeahboi:

I'm fully confident Crash will be in this Pass.

The other two fighters are basically just gonna be me throwing darts on a board and seeing what sticks.
I was 100% confident in Crash being in this pass, but I was sure last reveal would've been him and we got Sephiroth. I can't see him being the next reveal unless we have to wait all the way until E3 time... if E3 will even be a thing again, and the last two slots are way too late for Crash going by a so far solid precedent for reveals. But we all know Sakurai likes defying expectations so who knows, Crash could be the last fighter and we go out with a bang for once.

If he's not in this pass, he'll definitely be in the next one though.

Okay, Will Will and Faso115 Faso115 .

Let me get some images.

The fire here looks very different on Ganondorf's stage. So, it could be a victory pose after all! I really hope it is a victory pose, that would be amazing. Also, I don't see how Sephiroth could make that animation so clearly without it being a victory pose.

Edit: Ninja'd, damn.

Yes, the liar. Not the entire game. The liar plays that theme, not Banjo-Kazooie.

Wow, sounds really fun!

The fire isn't as detailed as the one in the Nibelheim shot, the transition to gameplay makes this more apparent.

Compare this:

to this:

and you can see a noticeable difference in quality.

Either it's a real dev wizardry going on or it's a victory pose
The shading is also different, but shading is never really that different for victory poses either. It's weird.

....I mean, it kinda has to be a victory pose, right?

We see Sephiroth turn around in that clip and then we see him do it again in game, which looks a lot jankier the 2nd time. The first, close up part looks more like it's an actual animation instead of the model just turning to face the camera.

As a big fan of Touhou, I think we maybe tend to overrate its popularity in Japan a little bit. I don't have the best gauge of the JP gamer scene, admittedly, but to me it comes across as popular, but not DQ or FF popular. I may be wrong!

Regarding Reimu herself, I think it's only natural to be interested, for the reason that Touhou has actually had a full line of official fighting games, so she has really deep and rich moveset potential. She'd be very easy for the Smash team to adapt, and licensing would be a breeze as well, since they literally only need to talk to one guy and he's made it clear that he'd be thrilled to have his characters in. It's really just a question of whether Nintendo corporate/Sakurai were ever actually interested in adding her; if they were, there'd be no chance of any roadblocks.

Giving me Melee vibes

Speaking of Bowser...

Can we just appreciate how much Bowser has improved over the years?

I mean in the Melee render, he looks so slimy. He looks like that weird new cafeteria chicken nugget that I remembered being disgusting.

Bowser's Brawl render has some serious gum issues. He needs to visit a dentist. Also, it looks like he hasn't showered in weeks.

Ultimate Bowser, looks so clean. He actually looks like Bowser from Mario, but smashified. He looks scary, and powerful. Just as Bowser should be.

Also, the Melee and Brawl renders of Bowser have... Boobs. It looks so weird.

Sephiroth getting in really does hit me with the blindside, but I've stopped believing in the hype of certain characters ages ago. Wonder what other surprises we'll have in store.

Scorpion for FP9 baybeeeeee les gooo :bobomb:
I'm so down for another fighting game franchise to get in. MK is the only other series I tried to get good at competitively other than Smash, so of course I have a deep love for those games. Scorpion would be to me how Cloud was for some people.

That image @ShinyLegendary provided isn't present in the smash site, where did you get it? Pic of the day?

Well, it looks like he is facing away. Gee, where have i seen that before?

Yep, that has to be a Victory Pose. I'm not usually 100% sure on things but i will bet everything this is a victory pose or a complete waste of potential.

melee in general is an ugly ass game, brawl kind of improved on it but it cranked the realism too far and aged rather poorly. ultimate finally hit that sweetspot in the realism--cartoon slider though it still has some minor issues

If I wasn't lazy I'd finish up my bootleg Scorpion article. Maybe when I don't have a night where I have to work the next day lol, which isn't often.

What are your opinions on the Smash 4 renders? Smash 4's renders were very, VERY saturated.
