That's something I am willing to believe could happen. Maybe Nintendo do think that it'd be cool to see Ryu Hayabusa in Smash, but it doesn't necessarily mean that that would happen now. Such negotiations can take time, especially if it's true that Steve was in negotiations for roughly five years. Not to mention that maybe Nintendo might have different priorities in mind.

Sephy took me from stages 1 to 5 in about half a second. 2-4 never even set in.

Capcom does seem to be pushing Ace Attorney pretty hard next year and it is the 20th anniversary but it seems like anniversaries don't matter much for smash reps. It's hard for me to talk objectively about Phoenix since he is my most wanted, especially when his competition is the titan of a series, Monster Hunter. Phoenix definitely has the history with Nintendo over MH but we learned with reps like Sephiroth that doesn't count for much anymore. The main ways I can see them picking Phoenix over MH are:
I don't have a crystal ball on hand but I'm thinking it's a deluxe mii costume or bust. A bog-standard Mii costume just yoinked out of Smash 4 would really, really sting. Worse than nothing, actually.

From what I gather, Dark Samus is canonically a she, but it doesn't make any sense. Like, how the heck can you simultaneously be a being of pure energy and also be genetically the same as Samus in every way?
As someone who’s not that big of a Geno fan and prefers other characters a lot more AND thinks that the Geno mii costume returning is a likely possibility, we shouldn’t jump to conclusions.
We already know the when, the 17th of December.
A Geno mii costume is guaranteed to happen whether he's a character or not. I don't think it makes sense to not have it.

lol I said the same thing now that I've lost confidence in Doom Guy with everything he has against him. Sephiroth is a bit different since he was never a front runner. More of an outside hopeful kind of thing. I'm expecting complete surprises from now on. The only heavily speculated characters that we ended up getting (Steve doesn't count because his stock went way down and neither do leaks like Hero) were Banjo and Byleth.

I just wanna preface this with the fact that I have serious doubts on the 5chan leak's validity. The only thing that it got was correctly guessing that Sephiroth was in the pass, and any broken clock can be right twice a day. Aside from that I can't picture Nintendo making the pass and not including another Nintendo character.
Eleven? I's love 55 more characters, but I do think we will cap at 5.
I think she's had a couple fangames where she was voiced. I specifically remember a mobile game where she spoke; Not sure if it's on the Switch or not. I also know some professional VAs worked on a couple prominent fan animes.
At this point most likely Mii Costume.

I am fully committed to Smash having 5+ years of DLC.
If we end up getting Reimu I think it's very possible it'd end up being an SNK-esque kitchen sink of songs.
I never said that Nintendo could be planning Ryu for this smash specifically.
No... he is 'competing,' if that fan made rule is a thing, against every Capcom representative, including their biggest media series, Resident Evil.

I think so too and if that ends up happening hopefully Heian Alien (Nue's theme) and Reichi no Taiyoushinkou Nuclear Fusion (Utsuho's theme) are in it.
