I imagine either the character is someone who will fit the VGA vibes and at least be popular enough to have made an appearance... Or we'll get a complete 180 and get a character that is either "Too niche" or written off and thus destroying all guesses here.
The former is more likely but the latter would be more entertaining.

My guess is that it's going to be either Crash Bandicoot, Dante, or Doomguy. The Geoff Keighley screenshot has me leaning towards one of those options, but that could be just messing with people's expectations.
I hope it's not Jonesy from Fortnite - while the playstyle could be interesting, it seems redundant to have him and Steve back to back when they both have similar gimmicks.

Crash Bandicoot has the potential to be fairly straightforward like how he plays in his games or he could go off the rails with bonkers mechanics to capture the feel of his games. It really could go either way.
From what I can tell he's just some journalist. Honestly it doesn't confirm anything. Could be leaking, could be trolling, could be making a genuine prediction.
It's true that Sakurai loves to add new mechanics to the game with dlc characters, but not every new character must be game-changing with its mechanics. Standard characters are okay imho

Variety is the spice of life here. Min Min and Steve are unique additions but they do have a learning curve to them. I like characters with wacky mechanics like those but having someone who is more simpler can help a lot and it may be mandatory depending on which character they pick.

He's the host and executive producer of the Game Awards, the event where this Smash character is being revealed.
Also, I'd suggest giving the series in question a chance if you haven't. I'm not a huge fan of when people dismiss characters just because they aren't familiar with them or haven't played their games, like they did with Terry.

Okay, but please consider the following:
The fact that he just said "Woah" makes me think of the meme. He did not add an exclamation mark to really emphasize it, just said a "Woah" to a similar tune that Crash Bandicoot says it in.
Also Crash Bandicoot is known for the "Woah" meme. No other character really has that.
Maybe you have, but not everyone has. You're just trying to deny the fact that Crash is basically in. Don't deny the truth, it will bite back.

Yes, Geoff Keighley is the host of The Game Awards, and also the guy who single-handedly tries to make them a big thing in the first place. Every announcement literally goes through him.
Requesting a follow-up on having that "Woah" comment sourced, by the way.

What is wrong with Crash Bandicoot?
I never finished the N' Sane trilogy, but it was really fun.
I like them too. But if a character without an incredible gimmick is part of the Fighter Pass I'm okay with it

I really, really can't see it being Jonsey. Putting characters with the same gimmick back to back would make no sense. I know we've seen Nintendo do some logic breaking stuff with Smash in the past but this would be just flat out dumb. If Jonsey is in the pass he'd likely be a few spots apart from Steve

I can't really see them putting two massively popular Western third parties with crafting gimmicks back to back.
Random thought, I know, kinda going off track but I was thinking a bit to myself about this yesterday. If Geno gets in at any point I doubt he'd be considered a Super Mario series rep in-game and in promotional material. He'd probably be explicitly labelled a "Super Mario RPG" rep (maybe even SUPER MARIO RPG in all caps) with a series icon specific to that game. Just a gut feeling I have, just given the strangeness surrounding him and the rights to him.
