Also consider FE is a first party and it seems likely Nintendo is the one doing initiations on who they want in smash. Not that it eliminates Sakura's chance, but I feel like that argument doesn't quite work here.
I would agree, but Since the Sakura Wars game released very close to Fpass 2's decision date (Sakura Wars came out in December, Fpass 2 was decided around November-ish) There was a bunch of advertising and stuff so maybe that would get Nintendo to show interest. It's not a solid theory but It was worth throwing out there.

This is another instance where my bias might be getting to my head a bit 🙃

I see Kiryu has joined Doomguy in the "Death by interview" pile. That's unfortunate for those fans.

As for who else might be a Sega rep, I would be fairly confident that they would be from a new franchise based on the precedent we have from previous DLC. Sega owns the rights to a lot of franchises but most of them seem extremely unlikely for Smash. On the other hand there are a number of niche series that would make sense in hindsight should they be chosen, such as Streets of Rage.

You do know that Three Houses did not release till like halfway through 2019 right?

I don't think that would stop it, Puyo Puyo is massive but you never know what Nintendo might pick.
That's not really the same thing considering Three Houses is a first party game Nintendo wanted to promote, whereas Sakura Wars '19 hasn't even come out on anything outside of Playstation.

You Could maybe put Tracer* and Arle*

*Tracer was mentioned via Reddit AMA

*I cannot find the link but I think a producer or Director for the Puyo Puyo series said that they don't like the Puyo Puyo characters fighting. again that is just what I remember I'm probably missing a crucial detail with that one.

Yeah it was most likely bias clouding my judgement.

I believe that was a statement towards a dedicated Puyo Puyo fighter. I believe this was the same interview where he clarified that Arle would probably be the character chosen for Smash, which would imply he doesn't have any issues with Smash specifically. Maybe it's because Arle isn't punching characters from her own series.

Still, it would be nice to double-check. Anyone able to clarify?

Sure Kiryu may be gone, but there's nothing saying Majima is deconfirmed!

Or Ichiban...or Tak...

Anyway, I can't lie, the reasoning here is way too funny for me to be upset. I still want a Yakuza rep in a crossover fighting game, but you can't help but respect someone dedicated to how the character is portrayed. And who knows - maybe it's just a joke?

I found that Arle interview I was talking about

There was a problem fetching the tweet

This was the quote I was talking about, I am unsure if it means anything, i'm going to say it is a definite maybe

I found another interview where they say the standard "Arle would be pretty cool in smash I think"

So basically these quotes and interviews tell us absolutely nothing
So basically, fighting is a no-no in the Puyo Puyo world specifically. Take Arle out of it, and it looks to be fair game.

If we're arguing semantics, the Astral Chain protagonist isn't Akira; That's their twin. They start out fairly similar, but they start diverging very early on.
At first, you get the Sword Legion and Akira gets the Arrow Legion. However, the heroes lose control of the Legions fairly quickly, with you being the only one to regain control. You start collecting all the Legions and using them together while Akira is stuck with nothing. This is followed by them getting near-fatally stabbed by Jena and is put out of commission for a while, until they come back with dark armor and an upgraded Raven Legion. Then it turns out they were cloned to create the Raven Corps, causing them to have an existential crisis, and THEN they get absorbed into Noah, forcing them to sacrifice themselves to let you finish it off.
Long story short, I could see them as an Echo or even a semiclone, but Akira and Astral Chain protagonist are separate characters. I mostly refer to them as Legionis in the vein of Inkling or Villager, but Officer Howard works too.
Ah interesting. I haven’t played Astral Chain, but it’s on my to-do list (so many games, so little time).

I'm going off topic here, and I want to tell you something you may not have noticed before.
Throughout the years including in Sakurai Presents videos, the English voice has pronounced Sakurai's first name as "Masa-hiro".
Well...
I was goofing around in the Google Translate, and I typed "Masahiro" and the Japanese voice said "MaSAhiro."
It's weird but Persona 5 pronounced, for example, Shido's first name as "MaSAyoshi" while Western people like us would be more used to "Masa-yoshi."
So yeah, if Google Translate's Japanese voice said "MaSAhiro", then it should be that instead of "Masa-hiro". Any comments?

I mean, Puyo Puyo started off as an RPG, right? Or rather, it... uses the same characters as an RPG series, is my understanding of it? Seems to me like some fighting went on in that.
It also had you fight Schezo's disembodied head.

Yeah... Not sure if Sega wants to use Matou Monogatari as a reference point.

I mean Puyo Puyo is supposed to have a slapstick comedy, I mean we have Mario, Kirby, Yoshi, Banjo, and Sonic in the same game as Snake, so ARLE being in Smash doesn't really feels like a sore thumb.

Also literally Smash's combat is also suppose to be slapstick and not having a lasting injury for the character considering they quickly brushes everything off in the victory screen.

The wording makes me think that the problem isn't the fact that they fight, but more violent stuff like punching. Perhaps if they design her moveset purely around magic and Puyo stuff that would be correct.

My interpretation is that he don't want violence associated WITHIN the lore of the Puyo Puyo world, meaning that if trouble occur they don't resolve it with a punch, I think that is why he doesn't want a Puyo fighting game cause literally everyone in that series are all buddy buddy with each other.

observe the word "anything-goes kind of world" and "the lightheartedness of the Puyo Puyo world" notice that he refer it as 'World' not 'Series'

Aaand considering Smash fights other worldly being other than her friends and of course, herself then it doesn't have any problem.

What does everyone think of Lara Croft? I don't see her talked about much. Don't see too many requests for her, but regardless I think tons of people would be excited if she made it.
It's sad that Lara Croft is overshadowed by Square Enix's abundance of RPG game and the most requested one for Smash being Geno and Sora (even though it is owned by Disney but created by Nomura, a permanent member of SE). I should expecting a Bravely Default and Trials series getting requested after them.

If you mean Trails, that isn't Square Enix, it's Falcom.

If you mean Trials, as in the stunt bike game, that's Ubisoft. Also kind of a weird connection to make.

I don't mind her despite never having played the classic games, that said she more than earns her spot in the roster more so than Sora (Though he's more Disney), Geno, and I admit that I want more 2B. Rather unfortunate she's overshadowed, probably has to do with the fact people see her bringing nothing interesting because I guess apparently you're only so if you have cool*** powers or abilities.

She got talked about a lot despite being 'an rare pick'. I mean, you guys kept bringing her up in form of questions for some reasons here??? That means that she isn't that rare,,,

I'm not a massive Tomb Raider fan and have only played the first two games of the reboot trilogy, but Lara would be cool. She's definitely plenty deserving.

We all thought she was underrated until we got together and realized she actually wasn't all that underrated. The problem is that while we're pretty confident in her chances, this site doesn't seem to have a real Tomb Raider expert who snaps to attention whenever her names is mentioned, like how I was for Reimu and now Adol, or Rie Sonomura Rie Sonomura is with Neku and Elma, so a lot of us aren't really sure about what she'd do or what her games are like.

From what I've seen, it's just going to be bug fixes. Updates where the third number changes (9.0.1, 9.0.2, etc.) are bug fixes, updates where the second number changes (9.1.0, 9.2.0) are more significant updates like new modes or stages (Small Battlefield was in 8.1.0), and updates where the first number changes (9.0.0, 10.0.0) are for new characters.

It's not entirely consistent (from what I've read, 6.1.0 just fixed a glitch where Terry's Buster Wolf made him freeze), but I'm guessing it'll just be bug fixes.

I think Lara getting overlooked is probably the result of Smash Bros. primarily focusing on Japanese gaming series, with the two primary exceptions being Banjo-Kazooie (which used to be a Nintendo IP prior to 2002) and Minecraft (the most popular game in the world, and the highest selling foreign game in Japan). And I guess there's also the argument that most Nintendo fans don't really have an attachment to Tomb Raider.

I played a couple Tomb Raider games when I was younger, but I sadly don't remember much of it

aside from dying a lot lmao
Am I the only one who relates to this lol,

especially the dying part cuz I died multiple times when playing the installment on PSP and when I finished chapter one the game immediately freezes everything

Isn't Tomb Raider still very popular in Japan though and owned by Square Enix, a Japanese company?
