To be honest, it not being a full Sakurai Presents is concerning. Not to mention his brief message afterwards. Are we going to get talked down to by Daddy Sakurai? Cause that’s the feeling I’m getting. It’s like that feeling when you did something bad and your mom says “your dad will talk to you when you get home”. Half of you dreads it but the other half is optimistic that it will be alright in the end.

I don't think they'd do a Pokemon yet. Typically the "character from a new game" is one of the last characters revealed. See: Lucario, Corrin, Incineroar, Byleth. I definitely think a shillmon is possible, but I wouldn't expect it now.

Why would they wait until a year after the DLC's release to promote it when they have the opportunity to do it now though?

We won't get a Pokemon in FP2, because of the post-release event spirits.

Three Houses never got post-release event spirits, and Byleth got in. Simple as that.

Not really no. There's a lot of reasons why a Pokémon could be added in anyway. I'd say if this next fighter isn't a Pokémon then we won't be getting one though for the same reasons as no Super Mario character.

Someone wanting a Gen 8 Pokemon not because of it being a Safe/Cynical choice or because they're "Inevitable" but because of other reasons? Pigs went and flown!

In all seriousness I don't mind a Gen 8 rep getting in and I do like Rillaboom. My only issue is people using Gen 8 as a cynical choice or thinking they're inevitable when really, no character for DLC is truly inevitable.

Honestly, it's pretty clear that, whoever it is, we're going to be waiting a fair bit to actually get them in our hands. Otherwise, we would've gotten the standard Sakurai Presents.

I'm hoping Sakurai's message is just a standard "This character needs to be worked on for a little bit longer, but please stay tuned for a full presentation at the end of the month" type deal and not an extension of FP2's deadline.

I'm honestly guessing Geno for the next fighter, but I guess we'll see what happens next.

I'm predicitng Geno, he fits with the tourney speculation (having projectiles and not being lightweight), plus if he is a month away he would be linked to the mario tourney for Nov/Dec.

I'm with you two. For now we're only getting a trailer, presentation and release are gonna come at a later date. This could line up really well with the Mario tourney. Though Geno would very likely be a lightweight tbh.

It's not necessarily a release "date". If release is discussed it will probably be to say that the fighter will be delayed, either to next month, next year, or worse, indefinitely/an undisclosed amount of time so we're still going "when's Smash?".

That is a good point, perhaps there will be more information than just a simple delay since that doesn't really take long. Maybe more Amiibo announcements?

I honestly don't think the lightweight tourney would effect Geno. He'd definitely be on the lighter side, but the tournament only has the top 10 lightest characters in the game (discounting Squirtle because Ivysaur and Charizard and having both Meta Knight and ZSS, who are tied for 10th) as playable options. I don't think Geno would be that light.

Depends on how big they make him. If he's the same size as Mario, then he'd probably be a light middleweight.

EDIT: I think that's how big he's supposed to be, so I'm not sure why they would make him smaller.

It's Dante, I'm calling it. That would be a fighter with a lot of crazy gimmicks, especially considering how long it's taken for us to know the fighter which could mean the fighter would be pretty hard to balance and be very complex.

For every 3rd party characters, the trailer was shown alone without any explanation, then the Sakurai presents happened later. For Byleth and Min Min, the presentation included the reveal + explanation. For this reason, I think it's 3rd party this time. This could also mean that the character isn't finalized and that the release date is not very close.
