I know that almost everyone will disagree with me here. But I don't see the potential with Minecraft Steve, I recently started playing MC in the past 2 years. And... well, he just seems so ridiculously stiff and devoid of life.
Personally I think he could work. Like... he’s kinda like Rob or Game in Watch, where he’s a blank slate with a large chunk of stuff to pull from. Maybe some stuff form Dungeons, a crafting system as his gimmick, who knows? There are many ways you could take him in terms of a moveset.

It'd be like Mr. Game and Watch where the simple animations are part of the charm. It definitely ain't for everybody, though.

EDIT: At least villager is full of emotions and just oozes personality.
Byleth canonically doesn't have any emotions. I am sure they can make Steve work. Steve's face doesn't have to be static.

I think he'd be charming in the same way that Mr. Game & Watch and R.O.B. are. His incredibly simple skeleton does pose a challenge for expression, but they'd find a way to have it be there anyway. :079:

Steve definitely feels like one of those characters that I have no problem with joining since there's no competition with Banjo anymore. I'm not really a Minecraft guy, but there's been tons of people young and old alike who would love to have him, so eh why not?

I see. I guess that's part of the equation here with MC. I think it would potentially take a lot of work to flesh out these ideas. G&W's entire thematic is probably a lot easier to implement simply because his abilities and actions are grounded in each individual game that he has --- which he has a lot to go by.

What does minecraft have? Mining, swords, I guess buckets of water and lava?

Give me this somewhere in his moveset and I'm content
I'm kidding, if it wasn't obvious. :secretkpop:

He sometimes is like :O when something random happens and cries when the character with a million kajillion death flags dies.
How does Jeralt count as a character with a ton of death flags?

Also I am sure they can make Steve have emotions. There are animators that did a nice job with Steve's face.

Infinite possibilities. Minecraft has a ton of things you could make. Swords, buckets, pickaxes, bows, arrows, crossbows, potions that do any number of things, fishing poles...the list goes on and on.

Then there's the stuff in Minecraft Dungeons, which has a ton of weapons and artifacts with unique attacks and effects respectively. You can also get a feel for how Steve would animate in that game since it adheres to the no bendy limbs restriction and still manages to pull off believable attack animations.

They could use the ender pearl as a timed recovery. If Sakurai is really creative though then they can implement the crafting mechanic of minecraft to Smash. Allowing you to craft specific items that you can use or upgrade your already existing attacks.

does FP7's name begin with an E and end with an A?
Yes!

Expect (and it's pretty high on the want list too): LoL character + LoL game for the Switch. If there's any IP other than Monster Hunter / Pokemon that leans towards that formula of heavy cross-promotion, it's LoL. Halo coming to the Switch is pretty high up there too.
Remember that one crackpot theory we shared in the LoL thread a few months ago regarding a cross-reveal close to Worlds?

Chances are worse than a snowball has in hell, but maaaan, I want to believe. As far as I'm concerned, it would be one of the hypest announcements in Ultimate as a whole.

All of you haven't seen the Terrarian. There are HUNDREDS of different weapons in Terraria.

Oooh. I thought you meant Jeralt had a ton of flags on him, and I got confused. I know what you mean now.
Being the protagonist's biological parent is worth 1000 death flags. lol

Generally the only parents that don't die were never important to begin with. Like, the only parents I can remember not dying in recent memory are Kratos, your mom (Earthbound series), your mom (Pokémon series), and Norman.

To the people saying we can't get a Smash reveal because Nintendo is focusing on the promotion of Mario and Zelda, just remember they had an unrelated Direct one day before the Mario collection released with most of the titles within coming out either the day before Mario or not even coming out til next year.

No. I thought you meant actual flags. Like Jeralt was carrying a ton of flags with him.

Isn't it funny how Monster Hunter Rise is getting 3 amiibos but none of them are a hunter? haha
I guess since its a fully customizable character, it doesn't really have a base avatar for them to really make an Amiibo out of (though it doesnt explain why they went with one for MvC:I). Either that or they've given in to the idea that the true main characters of Monster Hunter are the Monsters, so the player characters don't need an amiibo.

The conversation already ended a while ago, but I agree that Corrin and Byleth may have never gotten in Smash if they weren't added when they were. I guess Corrin could've been a slightly dated base roster addition like Incineroar, but Smash 4's DLC was his best opportunity.

There's a reason why we're still waiting for Zoroark and Lyn, and that's because their respective franchises keep moving forward. Once that window of opportunity is gone, it's incredibly difficult to imagine Sakurai going back to a game that's several years old instead of representing the newest entry.

In addition, the promotion for Zelda is on a Saturday, which typically has no other announcements.

So next week is a genuine possibility... unless we get Crown Tundra instead.

Okay. The fact that there is no Monster Hunter amiibo is making me think the hunter is guaranteed.

on the flipside tho, he did revisit Chrom and K. Rool but that was moreso due to their demand

FE may be a bit more flexible in that regard, but Pokemon usually sticks to the most recent gen before the next Smash's base game

i just hope they don't stick to "newest first" for Xenoblade, X needs love 🥺

Better hope that it's the lowest circle of Dante Alighieri's Hell, where it's freezing cold. :4pacman:

Really makes ya think

That's... certainly a take.

I kinda think that those who are hung up on that are working on stereotypical (if I may be so bold and use that word) take on Steve. Really though, Sakurai and co. have already made the intentionally-choppy Mr. Game and Watch and the seemingly-not-playable Duck Hunt and Plant work, so I see no obstacle for Steve animation-wise.

(One crackpot want I've had is that DMC VI should take place in Dante Alighieri's Hell, a la Dante's Inferno.)

Didn't stop Inkling, Villager or the Miis.

Rathalos is the most iconic monster, so using the armor made out of him was probably the most fitting.

That's...actually kind of an interesting point. I do think you're getting ahead of yourself there, but it would make sense for Nintendo to have an Amiibo to tie into both games if they're going to have an Amiibo for the hunter in Super Smash Bros. anyway.

Donkey Kong doesn't have a rotating cast though, and none of the series's current villains really took off. I do kind of get the comparison, but I'm not sure it's entirely...warranted, for the lack of a better word.

Chrom was because he was hunting for clones. Wouldn't have gotten in otherwise. And even then it seems like he was a late-stage addition. If FE was really that flexible, you'd think they'd go back to add an original character the most people want to see: Lyn.

And K. Rool was never visited in the first place. He was made a costume to appease the demand in the short-term, but they were never intending to use the ballot for 4's DLC - it was always a bait and switch for Ultimate.

i just hope they don't stick to "newest first" for Xenoblade, X needs love 🥺
Were that the case, it would probably already have a character.
