Nah, I totally paid attention to that part. I felt for sure that that segment was possibly hinting at, subtly, of an upcoming Just Dance Rep. Just seems right. You know? The stars are aligning for it. Plus, I’m pretty sure I saw hints in the clouds that Just Dancer is coming to Smash as F7.
And in order to pay homage to the Just Dance series, I think it's a safe bet they'll be add the Just Dancer to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Brawl too! It'd just feel wrong otherwise.

EDIT: Oops. Looks like they scrapped the character's appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Looks like we'll have to talk about the forbidden 8 from here on out.

Since wild speculation is in anyway here's my thinking:

-The pandemic around spring did in fact push a few major first party Nintendo releases a few months forward with Nintendo playing their cards very close to their chest.

-There were some first party releases not affected (Paper Mario, Pikmin 3) that Nintendo shadow dropped in lieu of doing any sort of Direct with them because they've shuffled their presentation schedule.

-There were third party titles Nintendo had agreements with to promote that they created the Partner Directs for to allow to be showcased on a major platforms like the Twitter Account and YouTube Channel

-(This is admittedly wishful thinking) Nintendo will get back a standard Direct schedule starting next month; essentially resetting their usual pattern of presentations after a very tumultuous six months.

Context: Mario collection. Nate insists its real.

when is Mario’s “birthday” again?
September 13th

Its Sunday, so maybe a (mario or full) direct that week to announce this collection, its likely that its releasing this november. Mario 3D World DX was probably pushed to January 2021.

That would agreed with what Jeff Grubb has said, about a potentially general direct at mid september.

  • Yeah definitely. They didn't use to only mention games until they were out next month or sooner.
  • If certain people are to be believed, Pikmin 3 was delayed for the entire summer...yikes.
  • Probably. Either that or they had to release something, but they don't have anything to show.
  • Probably not.

I'm gonna start insisting it's not. There probably won't be a direct any time soon, and there's no way they're going to shadow drop something like that.

When the rumored Diect isn't on the rumored date

LEAKERS WERE WRONG

I was at work during break when I saw the Partner Showcase being shadowdropped. Good thing I've kept my expectations to a minimum because Partner Showcases are going to be the new norm for awhile since Nintendo are probably obligated to advertise these games. As much as I'd love to see Smash news drop soon, I'm fine with these being a monthly thing. There's always a chance that a PS shows me a game that I'd gush over.

September's going to be quite a month to sit through thoe. We might see a ****load of dumb rumors pop around before week 1 even ends.

If the Mario Collection is getting announced within the next two or so weeks like Nate Drake says and Grubb is confident that we're getting a "direct equivalent" in the coming month, it makes me wonder if the next full Nintendo Direct is going to be the E3 Mario presentation. It would at least explain why Pikmin 3 got shadowdropped, it had no presentation to fit into before its release.

Granted, that really has nothing to do with Smash unless the next DLC Fighter is planned to be a Mario character of some kind. It really seems like Sakurai presents Fighter #7 is going to be a thing.

I’ve been hearing people saying this so called full direct is NOT compensating for E3

I have my doubts about that but whatever

If anything, it would imply a general, or at least a mini, since then they could show off multiple things.

The real kicker with this whole drought is that the big game, Nintendo's big holiday release, the game everybody's waiting for, is... straight ports of Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy. No new content or anything, just straight ports of the same games that most people on here have played already. I'm fine with ports and all, and I get why they're done, but surely the richest company in Japan can afford to put out one (1) new game?

So what, wait for a few more days in this week still, or till next week, or the one thereafter? He's really not being very clear on this.

How would you know that they are ports and have no new content? They literally haven't been announced yet.

Yeah people keep saying they'll be remasters instead, but...c'mon. There's no way they're gonna do that.

I don't think the ports are a thing either but there's at least a minuscule chance I could be wrong on that.

Much like a lot of other developers, game development for a lot their teams fell behind due to covid-19. So unless you want Nintendo to release a bunch of unfinished games this year, its best to write this whole year off.

The most pessimistic side of myself thinks that we will get news around mid september and that the rumored direct either doesn't exist or is another minor thing like a partners showcase.

But at the same time I hope we will get that direct for real because the long wait is killing my interest and I'm almost forgetting that Smash even exists.
I can't believe that I'm more reliable than insiders, wow.

All I'm saying is, the "Mario 3D Collection/All Stars" better not have been some Star Fox Grand Prix red herring. Aside from Smash content, that's the only thing I've been looking forward to this year. At this point, as much as everyone and their mom wants to claim those games are being ported to the Switch, I see it as a 50/50 toss up.

"General" directs are donezo for this year. Makes no sense to do partner showcases for games like Shin Megami Tensei V or Kingdom Hearts for the rest of the year if there is a direct around the corner. IF there really are announcements in September it's either more twitter announcements or some sort of Mario anniversary presentation. FP7 will be revealed in a Sakurai presents just like Byleth and Min Min, and quite possibly the rest of the pass too.

september rolls around

Nintendo: Today we would like to announce a brand new Partner Direct, focusing on games developed by Sony and Microsoft for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X respectively.

I just wish Nintendo could be the tiniest bit more transparent. Even a simple tweet saying they're still working hard and doing what they can. Instead, we get radio silence and memes. I want an update on how they're doing, if everything is okay and that they are safe.

The wait for first party content would likely be much less disappointing if they gave us occassional updates on their status, instead of just "here's a picture of Mario tanning on the beach."

I've said this before (Though I don't feel like going back and dredging it up again); Nintendo is like the rain. Glorious and refreshing when it comes, but you never know when it will come, and asking questions is about as effective as punching a brick wall. Calling this situation a drought is entirely accurate.

Thankfully, we're able to dig through the earth and find a reservoir of older titles to keep us busy. That helps me take my mind off the wait.
