Mr. Zell said that the next "stop" (meaning Partner Direct) will be taking place in the 2nd half of August and speculated that we might see a General Direct in September. So it seems very likely we won't be getting the Smash reveal for a while and will probably see the Mario Collection announced on Twitter like Origami King.

Do wonder though if they'll just reveal the character and then drop them shortly after in September. We know Smash will be getting a patch of some sort in September due to the Amiibo coming out at the end of the month for Japan, and as it currently stands, we've never had a month where new amiibo come out/get restocked that didn't coincide with a character being released.

If this ends up being true, then it's very likely that Nintendo's "plan" was to ditch the E3 Direct entirely and cram everything into their scheduled September Direct.

All I can say is that this next Direct better be, at the bare minimum, two mediocre Directs combined.

Right now I would say in regard to speculation, I'm the most passionate about:

• Estelle Bright -- I've been hooked on the Trails series lately (just got to the Heimdallr summer festival in Cold Steel 3), and there's a lot to love (interesting and lovable characters, phenomenal world-building, the Falcom Sound Team jdk making banger after banger for the soundtracks, and so on). It's a mix of being excited to talk about Trails in general and just loving the characters, especially Estelle
• Lloyd Irving (or any Tales rep, really) -- Tales was such a big series for me growing up, and aside from that it's just a big series in general. I actually think Ludger or Sorey would make the most interesting protag from a purely moveset-based perspective because of the weapon switch mechanic or armatization, but Xillia 2 and Zestiria aren't nearly as well-known or loved as Symphonia or Vesperia, so those two are just what ifs for me. Anyway, yeah I love Tales and would love to see it represented in a more substantial way than just the Mii costume.
• Phoenix Wright -- Like Tales, I've grown up with Ace Attorney, and in addition to that I think Nick would just be a super neat inclusion. Seeing how Capcom crafted a full moveset for him in UMvC3 and noticing all the little details and references they added makes me interested in how Sakurai and the Smash team would handle him, since they've shown with challenger packs like Joker and Terry that they can put a lot of love into representing a franchise.

There are other characters I would love to see, but I find myself coming back to talk about these three a lot.

Honestly, I don't think we're going to get a full, standard Nintendo Direct this year. Between Paper Mario getting shadow dropped two months before its reveal and the Nintendo Direct Mini screaming "we were contractually obligated to announce these in a direct by this point but we have nothing, so here's a mini with SMT5 as a nice bonus", Nintendo is really flying by the seat of their pants to get products announced in time. Maybe we'll get something a little substantial come November, but even that's iffy depending on just how bad things are.

Basically, I expect more shadow drops, minis, and, in the case of Smash, Sakurai presents that unveil the character a week before their launch.

I'm not gonna count Min-Min Since for 1. I wasn't even predicting Min-Min, and also that I wasn't predicting ARMs before they had the reveal in March/

I ask because I have never gotten a Playable character right in My Time of Smash speculation (Mostly just this game). I'm hoping to get at least 1 character right (and for that character to be a certain someone)

I got Ridley, Simon, K Rool, Isabelle, Ken, Banjo & a Three Houses character (albeit for FP2) right so I think I’ll predict atleast one more character.

Nightmare Pick: depends on people but it general for all people a character that they don’t know who it is or have never heard of. Best described in my opinion as a very popular character in Japan but very niche in the west.
If such a thing would happen would happen I just look at the positive and think that a heavily requested character by the west will get in. Thought is due to dual reveal of Hero and Banjo which helped satisfy both sides because Japan and the west both got a heavily requested character.

Also, most people only really push it because "haha byleth shill haha shillmon," which is the only reason Urshifu has any ground, and I'm just going "We get it, Nintendo is a business that wants to make money, that was very clear the first time you said it." Urshifu makes the least amount of sense anyways, because why push a single DLC pack when you could either A: Push the base game, or B: Push the next DLC pack? Going by that logic, we would've gotten Yuri instead of Byleth.

I've gone through stages of reactions to internet "leaks" over the past year. Starting with small initial belief, turning to annoyance/disappointment, and even to outright indifference.

At this point I think I've now reached the point of ironic amusement, I almost look forward to seeing how online people shill their supposed inside information.

"Could Metroid Prime HD trilogy be around the corner? I think next weekend could make for a Smashing reveal, don't you?"

HotGirlVideos69 still doesn't compare to the quality and quantity of 4chan fake leaks, but points for effort.

One thing I'd like to ask about Zell's leak is if he meant it, or if he's just "You want something to report on? Report on this!" He seemed pretty fed-up, from the way it was worded, and I seem to be getting differing viewpoints on if he was honest or just wanted to give news outlets a screw you.

TBH multiple sources that we were trusting on the Mario remasters were all saying that Nintendo wasn't planning anything big for the rest of summer. Twitter shadow drops and small videos pretty much fit what was described by those sources.

Real talk? I really, really think we should stop expecting Nintendo to do some big "E3 replacement Direct"; Odds are, it's probably not coming, and we're just gonna set ourselves up for disappointment all over again.
