People using Snake and Joker as arguments are missing the point. The point of third party characters in Smash isn't about promoting those series as much as it is promoting Smash itself. They're characters that are popular on their own, and they get people who otherwise wouldn't be talking about Smash to talk about Smash. One person will say "did you hear that he's in SMASH BROS?" and then everyone around them would make this face and buy a copy. If you tried telling people "Did you hear they added RYZA?", the general reaction wouldn't be "WHAT?" as much as it would be "who?". And sure that'll get people talking about Atelier Ryza, but what does Nintendo get out of that that they wouldn't get out of a hundred other characters? See, when Nintendo adds a character like Byleth or Min Min, it may not be the most exciting pick, but it also draws attention to some of their (keyword here) smaller games. Atelier isn't their game, so they're not getting much out of it compared to someone like the aforementioned characters.

The 4chan leak should be treated as fake, like all 4chan text leaks should be. There is a new one everyday and for each 1 that has real info there are 99 that are completely made-up. Ryza could be added to Smash; too niche isn't an argument. However, based on the track record of Smash DLC it seems very unlikely that she would be chosen over Ryu. There is a first time for everything though.

In general, this thread basically talks in circles with character speculation. Our track record of predicting the next character is just dreadful, so it would be nice if outside characters could be brought up and discussed without needing fake leaks to "allow" that discussion.

Honestly a new F-Zero coming to Switch has seemed decently likely to me for a while now. The Switch is pretty light on racing games, and if Nintendo doesn’t want to do Mario Kart 9 for fear of competing with 8D, there’s no reason F-Zero can’t slide into that spot.

I really want to believe but I know better in the past decade+ to not get my hopes up for this. Of course, we don't know if that Twitter account is a troll or something among the lines of creating an account months in advance to fool people (like those fake Smash leaks that predict a crapton of characters and then delete their tweets to look legit).

There's also NateDrake, who more or less told us to not get our hopes up too high so like, this is really sketch lol. Either way, i'm (foolishly) hoping this ends up true.

It could be a port/remaster of the GameCube game. It’s not as hype as a brand new game, but it’d please most F-Zero fans.

We had the Guess Who? game helping narrow the field for FP5 and still didn't get Byleth. It was all Dante/Travis/KOS-MOS leading up to the reveal. Whenever a Three Houses rep was brought up we dismissed it because we just assumed the pass was all third party.

It's been sixteen years, Nintendo. I'm not even an F-Zero fan and I want a new installment to come out soon. F-Zero fans have been shafted for the better part of the millenium.

The difference is that most 4chan leaks don't get something on their list confirmed shortly after. Granted it could be another 'DMCV leak' where a bunch of details about the game were right but Dante didn't get into Smash's base roster like it claimed, but it does put it a step above the run-of-the-mill text leak

Sadly I think with how people are, it feels like fake leaks are the only way to drive discussion for characters who ain't the usual Waluigi's, Genos, Doom Guys, Gen 8 Pokemon, Soras, etc etc. At least I've noticed it is sometimes hard to bring up characters who ain't commonly discussed by people. Maybe not here but in various communities it is.

We all agree that Ryza or any other Atelier rep is fairly unlikely. It's an old series with the legacy of introducing alchemy and deep crafting to RPGs, but other KT reps like Ryu Hayabusa and Lu Bu just have more going for them. Plus, if this was supposed to be an E3 reveal, it would get nearly as much hype as a heavy-hitter, like Doomguy or Sora or Crash or whatever.

We know it's unlikely, so there's no harm in entertaining the thought and having fun with the concept, right? It's refreshing to have someone new to talk about, so let's talk about them for as long as we can. It's better than discussing random trivia about Geno via three-paragraph posts where both parties seem to be arguing different points entirely. Just sit back and enjoy the Atelier train while we can.

A Sentiment like this has me thinking that not only Crash Bandicoot is super likely...but also that people may be sleeping on the possibility of Master Chief being added tbh. It would be like dropping a nuke on the internet if he was announced for Smash DLC let's be honest.

Although 2B, Lara Croft, Sora, Doomguy, etc would have a similar effect. Which is why a lot of people tend to bring them up, but not as big as the former two.

He meant the individual pack each DLC Fighter comes with (officially referred to as Challenger Packs. As for his wording? Yes, it was a joke.

Not the biggest racing game fan in the world, but a new F-Zero game is something that would get me hyped. If there's one thing that Nintendo's been sleeping on is a good competitive racing game, Mario Kart is fun and sells like hotcakes, but it doesn't really cut it in this particular niche, even thought there is a competitive community, but it's not exactly competitive friendly the way it's balanced.

F-Zero....is literally right there. And Nintendo's been sleeping hard on the franchise it's mindboggling.
