Seriously though, that month was miserable. A whole month of "It's definitely happening this day," and, "It has to be before that day."

A majority of that month was just people speculating a release date.
Remember this year's Nintendo Direct speculation on January and on March to April? All of us were going "it's gonna be today" and then it wasn't....for quite a long time.

Actually, I believe you get infractions (or at least warnings) for censor dodging (which includes censoring yourself instead of letting the auto-censor censor you).
which includes images, not just ones that have swear words but also that have obscene jestures linked to swear words (like the middle finger) either spoiler box those with a content warning or manually censor the images

I heard from a very reliable source that the characters of this Fighters Pass would be based off of the 7 deadly sins.

These characters are:
  1. Max Brass (ARMS) for pride
  2. Kratos (Super Meat Boy) for wrath
  3. Tails (Sonic the Hedgehog) for envy
  4. Leif (Animal Crossing) for sloth
  5. Conker (Conker's Bad Fur Day) for greed
  6. and Bread (I am Bread) for gluteny
There isn't a character for lust because this is a Nintendo game.
What about Liquid Snake as a bonus echo fighter? I submit the following evidence:

No, that wasn't just an excuse to post that clip. ...Well, not entirely.

What on Earth just happened?
Snake goes to Shadow Moses to fight Liquid before he nukes stuff. He was injected with nanomachines to be in tip-top fighting shape. Turns out they also had a super-deadly contagious virus because the doctor who worked on Snake held a grudge because he ****ed up her brother in Metal Gear 2.

Liquid becomes infected and dies at the end of the game. Snake is also meant to die but just kinda didn't.

You really think the Sega event is plausible? They've never put in new spirits from different series in the same event. The implication that SMT wouldn't be part of that event but would come later on kills it for me.
A general event about one company while another themed after a specific franchise being impossible? Not really, unless you're Sonic, Yakuza or Persona, they just treat their characters whatever they want, like throwing Ulala, AiAi, Billy Hatcher, NiGHTS and Amigo in Sonic Riders just because, or making Twitter icons of multiple of their characters including more niche/obscure properties like Resonance of Fate, Ryhtm Thief or Seaman just for the sake of an anniversary.

I know it's not exactly the same, but I could see it somewhat comparable to Terry bringing spirits from multiple SNK series. If anything the only weird thing I see of it is Arle being the sole PuyoPuyo spirit instead of/or along the creatures themselves.

As for why SMT would have an event later, well, dunno, maybe they just see it as having more potential as an event for itself based on the multiple demons it has, or maybe since SMTV is still in development, they want it still around people's minds.

Plus, we already have 4 of their series represented in the game (Sonic, Persona, Bayonetta and Virtua Fighter via Akira AT), so they seem willing to negotiate multiple of their properties in Smash.

Once again, I am not saying it will happen, just that from my point of view, yes, it is plausible.

Someone leaked the spirits recently, 2 of them are fighter spirits. Take it as a grain of salt until the Arms fighter is revealed with spirits.

Given it is 4ch, it is definitely a fake leak. Since I highly doubt Tibby would be Fighter 7 even if Fighter 7 is a Rhythm Heaven rep.

Another thing about the bit about the SEGA Spirit event from the ""leak"".

Let's say we do get a general SEGA spirit event to coincide with the 60th anniversary and they can only put 4.

Wouldn't It make more sense for those four to be Alex Kidd (Master System), Sakura (SEGA Saturn), Ryo Hazuki/Ulala (Dreamcast) and Opa Opa (Arcade era)/Kyryu (Modern day)??? That would actually be expected from an event celebrating the Evolution of SEGA.

I see the ""leak"" putting characters so common on speculation such as Arle, Axel or AiAi that I just feel the creator didn't really know much about SEGA history, looked at the SEGA characters brought up in speculation by people such as Papagenos and characters from recently released titles to just call It a day.
It's Sega. Do you expect them to actually treat their characters with some degree of respect due to their legacy, when their mascot is treated as a joke by the internet and they kinda ran with it?

Again, I am not assuring the leak is true, but knowing them, I can totally see them just pick some random main characters of series that people know they own and call it a day.

Also, when were Axel and AiAi commonly brought in speculation? I know of Arle, but at most I've only seen like 5 people doing AiAi mockups back in the Brawl day.

Well, I do expect them to be treating their legacies well as of now because between the second half of 2019 and the current year they have took a 360° turn and have been reviving their IPs slowly and in quite the amazing way (first with the remake of Monkey Ball Banana Blitz which actually made the game quite cool, then with the excellent Streets Of Rage 4 followed by the comeback of the Segata Sanshiro style commercials with Sega Shiro and up until now with the seemingly incredible Sakura Wars for PS4), so I can easily see them wanting to keep that track of great revivals and promoting them one way or another through Smash.

Also, as I said on my post I didn't refer to just characters brought up in speculation but also the ones who just recently got new games (AiAi with Banana Blitz HD, Axel with Streets Of Rage 4 and Sakura with Sakura Wars PS4).

Nintendo can barely remember to commemorate their own anniversaries. Do people really expect something significant to come out of Sega's anniversary?

Seriously, I'm not even sure they'd commemorate the occasion with Spirits.

That's pretty dismissive of his point. Sonic's treatment as a franchise doesn't change the fact that if a SEGA Spirit Event is a thing, celebrating the history of its franchises is a way for them to do it then just cherrypicking the popular ones. It's especially the case since SEGA did put up their anniversary site with all of their franchises big and small, iconic or forgotten, so it's not like SEGA is ignoring them either. So SEGA can approve of using the more historical characters if Sakurai wants to go for them, and considering Sakurai does like to pay homage to gaming as a whole there is a point to be made in saying a SEGA spirit event would have deeper pulls.

That was because they injected Snake with another strain of FOXDIE.

It comes together if you play the games, so I'll just say play Metal Gear.

Honestly the thing I see that would discredit the leak the most is Crash and Spyro being Advanced spirits while their villains are Aces, when I'm sure it should be the other way around.

Well, with what you said, there's your explanation:
  • PuyoPuyo is an active series
  • Streets of Rage 4 is a thing that I admittedly forgot even I watched the Nindies it was presented in
  • Super Monkey Ball remake
  • Sakura Wars PS4 means it's been recently active
So yeah, they wouldn't look so random anymore and I can see why would they pass Alex Kidd or Opa-Opa for them, though I dunno on the lack of Yakuza or Shenmue.

Sonic's treatment as a franchise doesn't change the fact that if a SEGA Spirit Event is a thing, celebrating the history of its franchises is a way for them to do it then just cherrypicking the popular ones. Well, as long as we're talking about Sega, I might as well bring back this old nightmare before christmas.

What SEGA leak are you guys talking about
a supposed spirits leak that has Max Brass as FP6 (Fighter Spirit), Tibby from Rhythm Heaven Remix as FP7 (also a Fighter Spirit) and some Sega spirits like Arle, AiAi and Axel Stone

Phantasy Star's impact on SEGA's history just can't be looked apart, and I feel It is quite likely to get Smash representation in Smash sometime during the near future.

I also considered putting the Skies Of Arcadia protagonist as part of the SEGA Mii but with Four spaces only It couldn't be the case.
and i absolutely agree with all your sega choices, but i think you should add one more: phantasy star. phantasy star is a BIG sleeper pick imo. i'll just link to a write-up i did on potential sega reps as to why i think ps is being slept on
You guys should come on by the Rika support thread so its not dead and just the only two guys that played PS

Also, I think Ai Ai is an existing image they slapped on at the end.

Out of curiosity, let's say that the ARMS character is Max Brass, or Dr. Coyle, or Helix, or someone whose inclusion heavily implies that being an assist trophy or a spirit is enough to disqualify someone from DLC. What would your ideal Fighters Pass 2 look like in that case?
Okay, so I've been meaning to get to this:

1. Max Brass / Dr. Coyle: I'm not terribly fussed about which ARMS character gets in. But in case Spirits / ATs are decon'ed, leaning towards those two. I kinda like Coyle better because of her bad gal status, but Brass is also A-Ok in my book.

2. KOS-MOS: Became intrigued with her due to PXZ2, and really, I'm a competitive nut. I want to see what can be done with new weaponry and just going for broke with them. A la how MKLeo picked Byleth for the final game of a huge tournament and won the title convincingly. Her personality helped a lot too - she's a character I absolutely cheer for because of that factor.

3. Ahri (League of Legends): Hoo boy. Yes, lets get to this. My personal reasons for wanting a character such as this are only tangentally related to the business side of things (one reason why I think a character such as her is even possible). In essence, I want to see more people enjoy Nintendo and grow up with the same kind of happy experiences we have gotten. Especially outside the traditional Nintendo regions. So expanding beyond the three traditional console regions is a massive plus for me. (Steve would also do this on a similarily massive scale.) Also, while Dota 2 will be my favored MOBA, I'm perfectly fine with its longtime rival and competitor.

4. Dante (Devil May Cry): Beyond the matchup against Smash 4's Meta Knight (:4bayonetta:), Dante brings a lot to the table on his own. One doesn't need style-switching to make an effective moveset (Hey there MvC3!) - he can still be a really fun character to play and watch. Similar reasoning as KOS-MOS aside, he'd also make for a very versatile choice. Whether in casual matches or against online Ganondorfs. Especially against online Ganondorfs (no offense meant to those who legitimately play Ganondorf though).

5. Reimu: Figured that there's likely to be two or so "smaller" third parties (was close to placing Travis and Story of Seasons' Farmer here), and went with someone who's indie. Out of the three I lean towards Reimu because she'd provide a major contrast. Not just because of her indie status or because of her being a much smaller in stature compared to the other choices here. But also because she'd likely provide some magical bullet hell. She'd also likely come with a lot of music tracks, and that's a plus in my books.

6. Master Chief: Supporting him not just because of the guns or the character himself. Not just because I'd also love to see other weaponry like the Gravity Hammer and "the cause of so many backstab kills" aka the Energy Sword. Supporting him since I also want to see the console barriers fully, irrevocably broken. Shattered. (Supporting Kratos for similar reasons). Still though. Chief would also come with a potentially very interesting stage and a strong music selection, so that's two different plusses for me personally.

I'd even argue there's a chance that MOBAs (not just League) and PC games might have a bigger potential to bring people new to Nintendo than even Steve, considering a good chunk of the Minecraft fanbase already has a Switch thanks to Bedrock/Dungeons (Minecraft's Switch port was the best selling Switch title on the EShop for a week or two, I believe).

Then again, that also expands to characters you wouldn't normally see in a Nintendo console, like Master Chief or a Sony/mobile rep, though of the three only the latter would have the same "new region bonus".

Yes.

The perpetual trash fire known as Planet Earth(tm)
And none of them can do it as stylishly as the Commish so...

Max Brass win :troll:
"I'm Mary Poppins, y'all!"

Anyways, for Min Min I'd like to see her starting three weapons (Dragon, Megawatt and Ramram) as part of her moveset. Here are the moves I came up with for these:

Jab: Min Min does a short-reaching jab with either arm (7%, small knockback)

Forward+A: Min Min briefly summons a Ramram using the ARM closer to the background (9%, OK knockback)
Down+A: Min Min raises the foot closer to the background and kicks downward (8%, OK knockback)
Up+A: Min Min kicks upwards using the foot closer to the foreground (8%, small knockback) while using her ARMS for a brief handstand.

Air+A: Min Min kicks in a circle with the foot closer to the background (7%, small knockback)

Air Forward+A: Min Min kicks forward with the foot closer to the background (7%, small knockback)

Air Back + A: Min Min kicks backwards with the foot closer to the foreground (8%, small knockback)

Air Up+A: Min Min kicks upwards (8%, small knockback)

Air Down+A: Min Min kicks downwards (11%, OK knockback)

Dash Attack: Min Min does a jumping kick with the foot closer to the background (9%, OK knockback)

Edge Attack: Min Min stretches back and springs upwards with a arc kick (10%, OK knockback)

Get-Up Attack: Min Min turns her ARMS into Ramrams and spins around (12%, OK knockback)

Smash Moves

Forward+A: Min Min fully extends the Dragon ARM closer to the foreground (17%, OK knockback)

Up+A: Min Min strikes upwards with charged Ramrams that cut through the air like wind (19%, medium knockback)

Down+A: Min Min slams her Megawatt ARMS on both sides of the ground (26%, medium knockback)

Grab: Her grab from ARMS.

Pummel: Min Min kicks the opponent (2%)

Forwards+Throw: The second half of her throw from ARMS (13%, OK knockback)

Down+Throw: The first part of her throw from ARMS (11%, OK knockback)

Back+Throw: Min Min jumps above the opponent still grabbing them, and then kicks them from behind (14%, OK knockback); based on Helix’s throw from ARMS.

Up+Throw: Kid Cobra’s throw from ARMS (16%, OK knockback)

Special Moves
B : Dragon Beam
; Min Min sends one of her Dragon ARMS forward, and the one she sends out shoots a fiery beam that can be moved up or down (15%, OK knockback). When charged, the beam is bigger and the Dragon can’t be aimed (25%, medium knockback)

B + Forwards : Ramram Slice-n-Dice; Min Min sends a Ramram forward and sliced by spinning backwards (13%, OK knockback). When charged, it spins 5 times in succession (20%, OK knockback)

B + Up : Megawatt Propel; Min Min punches diagonally downward from herself to propel forward (16%, medium knockback). When charged, Min Min sends out a bigger Megawatt to propel herself further (24%, medium knockback)

B + Down : Dragon Charge; Min Min stores energy in her to power up a special move. When B + Down is pressed again, Min Min instead shoots an orb that uses the energy for Dragon Beam. This beam homes in on players, but takes awhile to make contact (16%, OK knockback)

Final Smash: Dragon Rush; Min Min is surged with energy. She punches outward with a Megawatt (18%), creates a flurry of Ramrams (13%) and then shoots two powerful beams out of both her Dragon ARMS (32%; 63% total, devastating knockback)

Gimmick: Every now and then, the arm closest to the foreground will be turned into dragon scales. Her attack power is then permanently raised by 1.1x until she is K.O.’d. In addition, her aerials reduce damage taken from attacks.

The Popper thing for an Up-Smash. The Wrecking Ball for Down-Smash and Down-Air. I think the Nunchucks would be pretty cool for some air attacks too, like N-Air and U-Air.

I think the Dragon Arm would make for a cool special move. Better yet if the Ice variant is used, not too many Ice attacks in Smash.

Okay, hear me out: HWYR if Dig Dug was the next Namco rep? And this was his moveset?
Intro: Dig Dug drills from underneath the ground and pops out.

Stance/Idle 1: His idle animation from Namco X Capcom, as Taizo Hori.

Idle 2: Dig Dug rests his shoulder on his drill.

Idle 3: Dig Dug holds up his drill like a gatling gun.

Notable Palette Swaps:
-Dig Dug arcade cabinet design (default)
-Taizo Hori (Blue; his skin color becomes that of his Mr. Driller design, and he even has his goatee)
-Susumu Hori (Pink)
-Anna Hottenmeyer (Yellow)
-Ataru Hori (Black)
-Dr. Z (White; like his Taizo alt, his goatee is present)
-Pooka (Red)
-Fygar (Green)

Walk: Dig Dug walks with his jackhammer mounted on his back.

Jog: Dig Dug extends his legs while walking.

Dash: Dig Dug runs just like his run animation from Dig Dug.

Damage: Dig Dug's lose animation.

Jump: Dig Dug lifts his drill up as he jumps with both legs.

Crouch: Dig Dug sets his jackhammer on the ground, ready to drill into the ground.

Weapon of Choice: Dig Dug mainly fights with both a jackhammer and a pump.

Jab: Dig Dug swings forward twice (7%, small knockback), and then drills the target continuously (2-5%, small knockback)

Forward+A: Dig Dug fires three shots from his Ray Gun (6%, small knockback)

Down+A: Dig Dug drills out one rock at a time (7%, small knockback)

Up+A: Dig Dug pumps out some air above him (9%, OK knockback)

Air+A: Dig Dug spins with his pump around him (8%, OK knockback)

Air Forward+A: Dig Dug drills forwards (9%, OK knockback)

Air Back + A: Dig Dug drills behind himself (12%, OK knockback)

Air Up+A: Dig Dug holds either a Pooka's eyes or a Fygar's scary face above him (11%, OK knockback)

Air Down+A: Dig Dug dives downward and drills into the ground (16% with a meteor effect, OK knockback)

Dash Attack: Dig Dug drills on the ground, riding his jackhammer (5%, small knockback)

Edge Attack: Dig Dug turns into blue eyes and pops up onto the stage (7%, small knockback)

Get-Up Attack: Dig Dug's pump blows out some air around him, lifting him back up (4%, small knockback)

Smash Moves

Forward+A: Dig Dug holds a Fygar out, and it breathes fire (19%, medium knockback)

Up+A: Dig Dug drills upwards (21%, medium knockback)

Down+A: Dig Dug drills on the ground, erupting pillars of fire around him (22%, medium knockback)

Grab: Dig Dug grabs the target with his pump.

Pummel: Dig Dug pumps air onto the target (1%)

Forwards+Throw: Dig Dug's pump blows the target diagonally forward (13%, OK knockback)

Down+Throw: Dig Dug drills the target and buries them into the ground (18%)

Back+Throw: The pump flails around and shoots out the target (11%, OK knockback)

Up+Throw: Dig Dug's pump blows the target upward.

Special Moves
B : Pump Inflation (don't laugh); Dig Dug injects his pump into the target in front of him, growing the target but reducing their weight (10%, OK knockback). This also applies to a teammate.

B + Forwards : Ray Gun Beam; Dig Dug fires a long laser beam out in front of him (15%, OK knockback), which can hit multiple opponents and deal good shield damage.

B + Up : Pooka Balloon; Dig Dug pumps up a Pooka above himself, and multiple rapid presses of B can send him higher. However, pressing B too much in succession pops the Pooka (8%, OK knockback)

B + Down : Drill Dig; by holding B, Dig Dug drills into the ground for 3 seconds. When B is released before then, he'll sometimes dig out an item. When the time is up, he pulls out a rock that he can throw at opponents for a meteor effect (20%, medium knockback). However, if Dig Dug holds it for 5 seconds, he will be buried (13%)

Final Smash: Fault Line; Dig Dug drills a huge area in front of him, and a light bursts out (11%). Any opponents caught are taken into a cutscene where Dig Dug drills into a fault and the piece of land the fighters are on sinks into the water (59%, devastating knockback).

Gimmick: Dig Dug's Neutral B's effect varies not only with size, but also weight, despite only being able to grow a fighter.

-When the target is tiny, their weight and size will return to normal.

-When an opponent is already Giant in advance, only their weight will be reduced.

Taunts
1: Dig Dug mimics his pose from the title screen of the original Dig Dug.

2: Dig Dug mimics his pose from Namco × Capcom.

1+2: Dig Dug's jackhammer drills by itself for a bit.

Winposes
1: Dig Dug puffs up a Pooka, but it blows up and he lands on his butt.

2: Dig Dug sets up the Player 1 victory sign from Dig Dug Arrangement.

3: Dig Dug floats about on a piece of land, stranded in the ocean.

Applause: A normal applause, sometimes interrupted by Dig Dug's jackhammer.

Icon: A Pooka's eyes

Boxing Ring Title: The Underground Underdog

Star K.O.: The death sound from Dig Dug.

Victory Music: The Dig Dug victory jingle.

Kirby Hat: Dig Dug's helmet and cyan visor.

While not my ideal second Namco character (Heihachi), or third (Agumon), or even fourth (KOS-MOS), I'd be interested. My university had an arcade cabinet with a bunch of games on it, and Dig Dug 1 and 2 were addicting. Plus, that's a really in-depth moveset!

I don't really get the knockback measurement as that description of knockback could be applied to any kind of length but this is a pretty cool moveset
