Thanks.
Wait a minute... A Spirit promotion would mean that a first-party character would be on the Fighters' Pass, right?
There are some third party Spirits too like Shantae and Rayman, but a Nintendo character on the FP is significantly more likely with that wording

It'll be nice once the rumors fly around again, because some of the current rumors we have are pretty "yikes" in comparison. Like, some of the rumors are so obscure that it's pretty much, "That character could be anyone, and that leaker would be right".

I personally won't take leaks with anything more than a grain of salt unless I hear something about it myself or unless a more prominent leaker puts it out there. It's not that a Twitter leaker can't have legitimate information, but I don't see any reason to believe something that comes from a random account with no evidence showing reliability, as well as a rather obscure "prediction" that has little chance of being correct.

I also don't think there's ever been a leaker that starts with, "My English is bad!" that has turned out to be real in the end. Most correct leaks have been lists from a named source (very rarely anonymous posts) or flat out leaked like Ryu, Roy, ESRB, Gematsu, and Simon/Richter with the Castlevania Youtube screwup. In addition the whole, "I saw a model of a character" is not something I really believe either.

It's going to be a long wait, but I think the next big pick-up in speculation would be during the Hero mini-Direct. It could give us some direction going forward, like if it makes Mii Theory or breaks it. That is what I'm mainly looking for.

Plus, I always like trying out the new fighters obviously. However, we're running in circles in terms of arguments and I don't have much to come up with right now. O O F.

What if the character that already appeared was Porky, why, because a statue of Porky can be seen in New Pork City.

It’s a while back but there was a compilation that said the next character would be female, and that she looked like she would fit right in in a fighting game. She’s supposed to be the next character, and the final pass character according to NepDon’s source has “(already appeared)” next to it, possibly hinting at a Spirit promotion.

If anyone can find that compilation of tweets again I’ll break it down
All tweets are here.

I'm sorry but i don't believe the Japanese leaker for a second, it's way to vague imo it's like he's trying to be beliable by being vague, when imo it's creating the complete oposite.

Just got a targeted ad for Samurai Shodown, so clearly all this discussion of fighting game characters is doing something.

Although I'm of the opinion it's Tekken in first place for that genre and every other franchise is vying for second.

I like how instead of addressing my points you just copy paste a segment from a Wikipidea article that is irrelevant to the points I was making, and then go on to make incorrect assumptions. Also that link regarding DFO doesn't seem to redirect me anywhere :ohwell:. I would go on, but I'm sure people don't want this discussion to continue lol.

off topic but here's my 2nd question
if Rare was still with Nintendo and if banjo join smash bros with smash bros brawl
what other Rareware character would be playable in later installments(outside of dk characters)
my own answer:
Super Smash Bros. Brawl-Banjo-Kazooie
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U-Rash, Zitz, and Pimple(Battletoads),Fulgore(Killer Instinct),Conker(Conker's Bad Fur Day),Joanna Dark(Perfect Dark),Juno and Vela(Jet Force Gemini),
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate-Cooper Chance(Grabbed by the Ghoulies),Kameo(Kameo: Elements of Power),Hudson Horstachio(Viva Piñata)

This feels too much like Vergenben's style of "leaks." These can be technically correct regardless of accuracy. I would rather wait for a more credible "leak" than take this seriously.
I'm not sure what you mean by Vergeben's style of leaks - aside from the new Pokemon (I believe their only comment on the issue was that it wasn't Lycanroc, Decidueye, or Mimikyu) and any potential Minecraft content (which we could still potentially get with Banjo, such as an extra stage or Mii costumes), Vergeben's Smash leaks tended to be very specific, saying that characters like Ridley, Isabelle, and Simon Belmont would be in the game by name.

I don't think we'd have that many. Keep in mind that Smash adds characters slowly. That's like three new franchises added per game, all from the same company.

Also Kameo and Viva Piñata might not have been made if Rare had stayed at Nintendo.

I was checking the Shantae thread when I came across this video:
What if the character Team NepDon mentioned is Curly Brace from Cave Story? She would likely be a alternate costume for Quote and both of them have been in a fighting game before (I believe it was Blade Strangers.) One of the weapons that Quote and Curly had was "King's blade" which they threw to attack enemies.

Due to the poor management Rare has of its own characters, probably we would have Banjo and at most Joanna Dark. Plus Nintendo introduced a lot of characters new and old during the 3Ds/Wii U era of Smash and Ultimate had very few newcomers as well.

Let the record show that people had made ideas for a Tetris cube as a representative....LET'S REMEMBER THAT. Honestly, it's a pretty popular game, so I don't see why it shouldn't have a say in Smash. (Or...wait, is it already in Smash as a assist trophy?)

Tetris A and B themes are on the soundtrack. Although the lack of Tetris as an assist trophy does feel like an oversight. It's not like it's a particularly hard game to license...

It is though, The Tetris Company is notoriously strict with their licensing.

yehah brother
I actually made a quote/curly moveset for my story (see signature) once, but I don't think it's fully finished (also I have no idea how to tag something as spoiler and i refuse to upload it not as one, too big)
But fr Quote/Curly would be very likely if it weren't for their lack of relevance

While there hasn't been any sign of a sequel (not counting the 3DS remake), Cave Story got ported to the Switch in 2017. Quote and Curly were playable in Blade Strangers and Crystal Crisis which were released in 2018 and 2019 respectively. I would hardly count that irrelevant and both King K Rool and Banjo & Kazooie killed the relevancy argument.

Tell that to Isaac, though maybe there was more to his exclusion there?

Yes. All 2D ATs don't exist in Ultimate anymore. Here's a full list of ATs that were removed from Ultimate (not counting ATs that became playable).

In Both Brawl and Smash 4:
Tingle
Saki Amamiya
Kat & Ana
Infantry & Tanks
Lakitu

In Just Brawl:
Jill
Ray Mk III
Barbara the Bat
Mr. Resetti
Excitebikes
Helirin

In Just Smash 4:
Magnus
Elec Man
Even still, it wouldn't have killed them to revamp the AT (Infantry & Tanks) like they did with Isaac. Like have Andy, Sami, or Nell summon actual-sized units to attack. Better than just axing the AT all together.

This is the reason I want Phoenix Wright, I want more people to play Ace Attorney, the franchise haven't reached its full potential because people aren't that attracted to VNs.
Smash is the perfect opportunity to help the series grow, specially here in the west (Just like Dragon Quest).
And maybe finally get that Miles Edgeworth sequel in the States.
Seriously that has bugged me for nearly a decade.

I don't know if I could handle it finally being released here. It's one of my favorite ones in the series but considering I nearly had a stroke seeing Great Revival get an official English title of probably melt into a pile of goo if characters like Raymond Shields got new English names.

Also, Quote/Curly would be so amazing to see in Smash!

When I think about it, Takamaru would have been the perfect retro character for this game. Unlike Simon, his franchise remained more like a novelty among many NES games, similarly to Duck Hunt. It's kind of tragic knowing he was only considered for Melee, yet couldn't make the cut all the way far back. He would have been guaranteed for this game otherwise.

He wasn't too relevant back then, but he was recognized enough by Sakurai to be featured as a Mii Costume last game, in addition to a recurring AT role and spirit. Even made a cameo in Koei's Samurai Warriors 3 almost a decade back, so his franchise had that slight temporary boost.

Looking at this, he obviously won't get in now, but I at least think he has a chance to be considered as the following retro rep next game, if that even happens. There's a lot more competition that beats him easily at this point.

I agree. If I remember correctly, Tekken is the 2nd biggest Japanese IP not in Smash yet. Plus, it’d represent 3D fighters with Ryu/Ken already repping 2D fighters.

I have this....BURNING question in me. Like....is it confirmed that there'll even BE a next game after Ultimate? I was always under the impression that Ultimate's the last Smash game.

Smash Ultimate sold more copies than any other fighting game in history in a single month. I think it's safe to say this franchise will continue going forward.

Why wouldn't there be one? Smash is one of Nintendo's most popular IPs and is known to be a system seller, Nintendo would be foolish to drop the series.
On that note, people have said "this is gonna be the last Smash game" ever since Brawl, yet here we are with a brand new installment.

How can you represent 3D gameplay properly on a 2D plane? That's a lot harder to bring over than people think. Smash is a 2D fighting game at the end of the day. Not even the one time Heihachi was put into 2D(I think it was Street Fighter X Tekken?) was he attempted to bring 3D mechanics. He just follows completely 2D rules. This is also what Sakurai meant by his moveset being hard to work with. It's rather impossible to give him actual 3D mechanics. He also has side steps due to Smash's own thing. You could slightly do it via some 3D cutscenes for his Final Smash and Victory Screens.

Besides that, Heihachi is now actually playing with 2D mechanics in Tekken as is, so it's not the only way to represent him. He himself is a great gaming icon with a pretty cool moveset that should be able to be easy to work with alone.

Not every character needs a major mechanic, and some just don't work in every type of game. They can certainly find something else unique for him to do. He's got multiple games under his belt, after all.

As long as Smash keeps bringing Nintendo more and more profit, I don't see why they would stop here. It's a big seller with every new system they introduce it on while being a widely recognizable title, and I doubt they want it to fade away anytime soon. I think it's a bit too early to think of that happening.

They could just port Smash Ultimate with all DLC, add 10 new characters/stages, launch it with the Super Switch, and it would hit 10 million sales easily.

There's no stopping this train.

Well...There was also Playstation All Stars: Battle Royale.

I think a better way to implement Tekken gameplay into Smash would be to go for it's feel.

Not sure which game they would base the character off of since the only Tekken game that was on a Nintendo console was Tekken Tag Tournament.
