I think for me the characters just kind of look like some MMO or mobile game style. I like Capcom's stuff, and they clearly have a lot of anime influence in their styles, but feels unique for the most part. I'm a huge fan of Akira Toriyama's art. And don't get me started on SoTN - AoS era Castlevania, now THAT is a unique blend of styles.

But yeah, designs in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 are basically just "what looks cool, sexy, and anime," and it gets in the way for serious scenes.

That bothers me too. I'm trying to enjoy the cutscene and Pyra's design is all like "LOOK AT MY BOOBS!!!".

Then you realize Brigid's shoehorned into a ****ton of camera shots, not because she has any involvement in them, but to show off her boobs which jiggle because a different camera shot counts as movement ingame

I haven't noticed that, but I do have similar problems with her design because her freaking pelvis is exposed. They darken it out, but it's still weird.

Don't even get me started on Dhalia.

Am I thinking of a different NieR? The one I remember (though have only seen once) had a male protagonist; A teen in Japan and an adult in America.

Oh ok. I wonder if they'll keep the age differences in the remake, if they'll let you chose which one you want in both regions, or if they'll only have the young version of the character.

The upgraded version is NieR Replicant, the version with Brother Nier instead of Father Nier.

Kainé's outfit is significantly better than any XB2 design because there's an in-universe reason why she dresses like that, though it involves her big twist

Yeah her design is not for good boys and girls. She is basically fighting in her underwear and barely anything else.

SF1 didn't define anything, that was SF2

I'm not gonna argue that SF1 wasn't ass, but most of the concepts we ascribe to fighting games that are in SF2 were also in SF1. SF2 defined the fighting game in popular culture, but SF1 was still the foundation SF2 was built on.

It's like saying Wolfenstein didn't define the first person shooter because Doom popularized it and did everything better.

But I'd rather look at Pyra and Mythra before Kaine, doubly so because I just found out she's 17 in Replicant..

Imagine if Smash fans suggested giving Ridley attacks from Kraid, Mother Brain, Phantoon and Draygon. For the same reasons I would find that ridiculous, I find the idea of an ARMS character using attacks from other ARMS characters just for the sake of padding out their moveset ridiculous, especially when the ARMS fighter is most likely unique enough that they don't need to do that.

Big difference . Most arms characters have the same atacks bar 1 Or 2 abilities and they have the same arms. Kraid is nothing like Ridley.

Morag's and Lora's designs are fine, at least in my point of view.

Not every XB2 female character design is, uh, uncomfortable to look at, just, erm, about 60-70% of them.

I still enjoyed it a fair bit nonetheless, though. Especially the Torna DLC.
