Seeing how disappointing Byleth reveal and Pokemon Direct were I don't blame anyone for saying those don't count. People want exciting news.
There is no guarantee that another Direct will have "exciting" news, considering how subjective it is.

Also, when people will stop acting like Byleth's haters are the majority of the fandom?

Ngl, as much as I like Animal Crossing and Byleth, the lack of overall news is apparent. If spring wasn't front loaded with a **** ton of upcoming master-class releases like FF7, AC, DOOM, Re3, etc, this wait would be unbearable.

If the next direct doesn't announce F-Zero GX HD and F-Zero: Like a Blue Falcon then it doesn't count and Nintendo are doomed I tell you

It will say what upcoming games are happening for 2020, I doubt every single unannounced game that would be shown in a Direct would be something super lame. So far only games we do know that's coming in 2020 are Animal Crossing, Xenoblade Remake, and No More Heroes 3, so there's still a lot of unknown for when it comes to Switch in 2020.

I guess Animal Crossing doesn't count because I don't care for it despite plenty of others who do.
Yeah, if you don't like it then it doesn't count for you. People usually want to see news that they personally like.

It will be interesting to see how the perceived drought affects overall reception to the Direct if/when it occurs. If its not an outright blowout of many games (or a least a few games for beloved franchises) I suspect a sentiment of "We waited six plus months for this?" is quite a possibility.

People are gonna say that no matter how long they wait. Besides, Nintendo's E3 directs is usually where the big news happens.

True, though the sheer volume of it hypothetically could be tempered if it were to occur in say January as opposed to late March.

Again this all might be rendered moot if an interesting/popular Smash character is revealed and essentially sucks up most of the potential negativity so who knows?

Sure I get you, but it'd be a negligible increase. I think it depends on what they show, like you say.

Between the Byleth, Pokemon, and AC presentations, I feel like you have enough material for a full Direct.

Personally, that's been holding me over pretty well. More news would be great, but I'm content with what we've had so far. Plus, New Horizons comes out next week. That should keep me busy for a while.

as long as I get my XCDE info I’ll be good. FP6 would just be the icing on the cake

Hear me out - but I think that a character who would please everyone would probably be a playable Wiimote - because that is one of the only character suggestions I've never heard someone say is bad (or good for that matter) and it represents a major era in Nintendo's history, could possibly have a cool moveset, tons of alts, a floating Wii as a stage, tons of music from the menu screens of different Nintendo consoles in history, and spirits of different controllers and consoles. Also, it's a surprise pick, but one that has legacy - doesn't represent gender or race, and is an important part of gaming as a whole. Wiimote for Smash, anyone?

I'm honestly curious to see what Nintendo's big holiday game will be this year.

Pokemon's off the table because the Sw/Sh DLC and it seemed like BotW2 needs a little longer to cook judging by the lack of gameplay at E3. Maybe Super Mario Odyssey 2?

Expectations: BOTW2
Hopes and Dreams: Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. 5 year anniversary of X, would release in December if it was started around the end of XCDE, and of course... The wind blows hard in December...

After seeing the reaction to WFT and PP, I don't think the fanbase would respond positively to any joke character. All six of the remaining characters should probably be genuine.

BotW 2 should be almost ready if they had clips from cutscenes. If everything is being reused from the first one, I think they should be close to completion by now.

That is a bad idea and it would not please me.

The idea that the next direct will be completely barren is pretty silly. While I understand that people will get expectations up too high regardless, the fact is we know quite literally nothing first-party that Nintendo is releasing this year after Animal Crossing aside from Xenoblade, which is still a remake and also doesn't have a date. Pretty much everything first party they will show will be entirely new.

I don't like the idea and frankly I think the only reason you haven't heard anyone hating on it is because it's the first time it's been mentioned ever.

And what defines as 'exciting news' at this point? Such a topic is controversial because there's no such thing as pleasing an audience. People weren't pleased with Byleth or the Pokemon DLC, and I can bet that a small majority isn't pleased with New Horizons (I mean there's always that majority) so what really defines 'exciting' at this point? And how big is the expectation to deem it as 'exciting?'

The Wiimote should be an item the character just swings around wildly trying to get it to function properly, but it just causes more damage than anything else.

...who was disappointed by the Pokemon direct? Most people were happy with the revival of one of the best Pokemon games, and the SWSH DLC was generally well received (once pricing and availability of old Pokemon availability was cleared up).

Next Smash will have them as a usable item and when you attack with it the darn thing makes bitcrushed sounds like the real wiimote. Throwing the item is the fastest projectile in the game and deals 25% on hit. 1/10 chance of the wiimote actually doing a 'screen splat' effect like characters do sometimes in this game except it causes a shattered screen effect that lasts the rest of the match.

The Wiimote should be an item that can only be swung by waggling the joycons. Also it's impossible to throw when playing as civilized fighters like Rosalina, because they have the safety strap on.

We know nothing about 2020 with the exception of No More Heroes (which hasn't shown off any gamplay as of yet) and Xenoblade Remake (which still has some unknown such as the added area that wasn't in the original); so seeing what is going to happen for this year is going to excite people. Not every title they show in Nintendo Direct are going to be winners for everyone, but there's going to be at least something for everyone like all of the recent Directs have been. Have you forgotten a Nintendo Direct is like? You do know that there are games besides Smash Bros?

It's a continuation of a lack lustered Pokemon game that barely had any interesting post game, and what they showed were just concept art. That DLC isn't worth it if the base game was a drag.

Yes, I would love that! (I'm a big fan of weird and strange joke characters.)

Okay then for possible direct in 2 weeks the only thing that is a 100% guaranteed to be there is Xenoblade as that is the only first party game that is set to release in 2020 that we know of. In fact I fully expect the direct announcement to state something like "New details on upcoming 2020 games including Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition" with a few minute segment highlight all of the new content this remake is adding.

Some third party exclusives that are safe bets to show up are No More Heroes 3, Deadly Premetion 2, Rune Factory 5, and Bravely Default 2.

Can we get a sequel that will never come out with a 2 or 6 at the end too? Sakurai might be able to count in binary but I count in never-releasing Switch exclusives

Still waiting for the next 16 years for a new F-Zero...

...if by some glitch in the system it ends up happening...that will win the decade alone for me.

Nintendo direct live chats usually make me believe that most people only care about Nintendo directs solely for Smash....to which they get disappointed because it's not THEIR character.

I'd say the same. If that were the case we should always have Smash Bros-focused Directs rather than having the community toiling over Smash news on an announcement focused on other games.

F-Zero had about 5 games right? F-Zero 6 probably isn't happening so there's that.
