What are some characters you don't want in Smash that other people fiercly do, and some that you want that others would disagree or shoot down? Unpopular opinions time
I'll kill two birds with one stone. I prefer WTF choices that nobody would like over popular picks that I wouldn't be interested in as much.
Creeper > Steve
Axel > Sora
Flandre > Reimu
Paper Mario > Geno (slightly)
Adeleine > Bandanna Dee (very slightly)
Susie > anyone else from the Undertale series
Filia > anyone else in the fightan-game genre
The little Russian Dancer from Tetris on Gameboy > Sonia (Puzzle & Dragons) > anyone else from the puzzle genre >>> Arle/a Puyo rep
Blue with counter-picks against PKMN Trainer :001::005::009: > anything from Sword & Shield

And after Pirahna Plant, I can only imagine how much more rage there would be and how much harder I'd be laughing if this actually happened:

This is a great choice because it's Mario. Who could possibly hate having another Mario? He should do all the things Mario does except with a fiery effect to his moves.

KH3 spoiler time:
That thing that happens in the Keyblade graveyard when the spirits of the mobile game's players jump in and help Sora and Sora takes control of 1000's of Keyblades, punishing his enemies from above like Lucarios Kamehameha only with swords.
Props for coming up with a great suggestion that wasn't just Trinity Limit or Final Form.

Sora is boring but Donald and Goofy would be dope

I'm pretty sure no one is going to be mad at this opinion on the internet. No sir.

I saw this as soon as I booted up Taiko and I love it
I'm not really a taiko switch guy (cos I'm kinda disappointed at the song list) but where I live it's the only readily available version of taiko around  But the next arcade release runs on a custom pc rather than an actual arcade board so might be able to run it off windows

I don't think there's any single character who stands out like Ridley or K. Rool did.

Sora is popular, but I wouldn't say he's definitely #1 worldwide. I've seen quite a few people who were indifferent with him.

So as it stands out Sora is currently the most requested character right?
Ever since K. Rool, Banjo, and Ridley got in it has fluctuated a whole lot. Those 3 were undoubtedly the most popular for this speculation cycle and before that Mewtwo and a few others were in the mix. There's never been a "Big 3" as people like to say but K. Rool, Banjo, Ridley, Roy, Mewtwo, and Little Mac from what I remember were always, always VERY popular. Sora has only started becoming a relevant popular choice recently so it's harder to tell.

Oh, so the meme of Ridley and K. Rool fans abandoning Geno fans like they never existed was actually real the whole time?

I feel this skit is very appropriate while we're on the Sora topic.

Geno has a very large fanbase but it is also very hit or miss. They show up, Geno doesn't get in, they dip. Has been for a while. Aside from that Geno's fanbase is near exclusive to here. He has fans elsewhere but his home is on Smashboards and he's a big deal here. Otherwise he's not HUGE.

When K. Rool, Ridley, and Banjo ruled not only here but also GameFAQs, ResetERA, Twitter, Facebook, and more... yeah, Geno doesn't compare. He is popular enough to be the "next" K. Rool or Ridley tho.

Can someone please explain why Arle is hyped up so much? As far as I'm aware she's kind of a nobody, so an explanation as to why she's in the spotlight would be appreciated.

Reimu I can realistically see. Touhou is kind of Japan's biggest indie hit as far as I can tell.

And no, Coco and Crash aren't similar in any way, much less to the point where they're interchangeable. They're both humanoid, but that's it.
Arle's mentioned a fair bit because Puyo Puyo is a really popular puzzle series, and there's not much in the way of Puzzle game characters like we have for Platformer characters or RPG characters. I think some leaks or whatever mentioned the character too.

Before, people used to ask for Lip, but I guess that ship sailed. Personally, whoever the character, I dig the idea of someone from that genre somehow being put into a fighting game, and working out how they fight using their actual mechanics.

It certainly helps that his support thread has the most posts out of any character support thread on the site overall, already surpasing Ridley's Smash 4 support thread. Geno's support thread also recently hit 100,000 posts, so he does have a big following on Smashboards. That being said, there's also quite a bit of Geno supporters on Twitter as well, though it's not as notable as the support he has on this site. There's also Operation Starfall as well. Even if he's only had one major appearance (Super Mario RPG) and a small cameo (original version of Superstar Saga), he's still one of the more highly requested characters.

And then there's also the fact that his Mii costume (and the Chocobo hat) hasn't returned despite the fact that we have a Square Enix character as part of Ultimate's DLC (though there's a chance that Square Enix wanted the Mii costumes that were released alongside Hero to be strictly from Dragon Quest).

Geno's pretty popular but I have no attachment to him whatsoever. So that's always my go to choice for someone I don't exactly want. I try to be open minded on characters I'm not familiar with though.

I'm not entirely sure how popular Mega Man X is as a choice. He seems fairly popular for someone who has a snowball's chance in hell for Smash Ultimate in particular. But I can objectively say he's a better choice than most characters. From moves, to stages, to music to costumes and even new spirit fights, most things they could do with him would be pretty sick.

At worst, everyone agrees he ain't making it in this time, and that some people prefer Protoman, Zero or someone like Mega Man.EXE. But those characters are cool in their own right.

I love X more as a character than basic Mega Man, but they cover a lot of the same territory. The only thing that really separates the original X games (like X-X3...X4 onward started to get...different) was the Armor Upgrades for X; the basic premise and gameplay was otherwise identical (2-D side scrolling platformer Shooter hybrid; absorb boss powers to add to your arsenal).

I mean, I suppose the character could differ in that he would be faster thanks to Dash; be a Heavy thanks to the Armor and...what else? His most common upgrades were the dash (and Air Dash), Helmet, and upgraded Blaster. They could make him another 'meter' character like Hero with his Mp or Joker with his Rebel Gauge; where a Charged X meter allowed him to use more destructive Energy & Specials attacks. Still though, his base kit would still be firing lemons, charged blasts, and an array of his enemies' attacks.

Again, I prefer X because I like those games more, and they could differentiate him if they wanted to, but I feel like its already covered with Mega Man. Protoman would be a step down (he doesn't absorb powers; he just has a shield) and Zero, while a decent choice, would give us another sword user who honestly wouldn't differ too much from the others (quick combo'ed sword slices and occasional energy shots).

Bass & Treble as a Duo would work, I guess. They even combined in Mega Man 8, so you've got a decent Final Smash idea with that. He's got a few other types of beams than generic charged shots and can have Treble assist, but without the 'using your enemies moves' mechanic, he'd likely come off as a less versatile Mega Man.

I can't speak to Megaman.exe (heard the games were good), but despite being a grid based RPG, aren't the mechanics basically the same? Fire shots, defeat enemies, absorb their powers? His Kit would likely be similar to original Mega Man's as well. Disregarding Simon, I don't think they're going to give us another 3rd party character who's an Echo or Semi-Clone of one they've given us already. They've differentiated every DLC character (including Piranha Plant) fantastically so far.

Determining who's "the most highly requested Smash character" seems like a real chore to do. Not that I wouldn't be interested in the results, because I REALLY would be. You'd basically have to have a really large un-official Ballot/Poll of some kind. And, for the sake of fairness, make it clear that any and all video game characters not currently playable in some fashion was allowed, and that these shouldn't be predictions, but a wish-list, to avoid people going for what they think will make them right, so that we can gain a better look into what these ****** want.

Sora seems really damn popular, but every character has their popularity flux in and out. Even Ridley, one of the hugest requests was like this. Maybe Sonic and Mega Man were exceptions to this, but even then, Sonic was behind Bowser at some point.

1. How many characters are people allowed to vote for?
2. How many sites would one send out info for it?
3. How long can such a poll/ballot be open for?
4. If we can't stop vote stuffing, would the results still be fairly accurate?
5. How accurate can these results really be if we don't have a large sample size?

I think the sample size is the most important. It'd be nice to have unique votes in at least the 6 digits. A lot of examples of popularity have sample sizes of like 1,000 people. And while that's not something to scoff at, it's still a limited view.

Right, but those special weapons are what can set Mega Man and Mega Man X apart, same goes for MM.EXE and Zero as well. Keep in mind, Mega Man uses, about 10 or so special weapons in his Smash moveset. And the Classic series alone has more than 80 to reference from. Mega Man X has about 60 weapons from his 8 games to pull from as well, and there's not as much over-lap as one would think right away. This isn't even going into him using a few Street Fighter moves or having certain abilities from his armors being implemented into his moveset. Especially when keeping Mega Man's Smash specific kit in mind.

A look into the two characters' movesets in Marvel vs Capcom should also show how they can be developed differently.

MMX wouldn't likely have a weapon that works like Top Spin, Leaf Shield or Metal Blade. Nor would he have Rush or Air Shooter. Mega Man doesn't have a Horizontal recovery attack, so something like Speed Burner could set him apart in that way. None of Mega Man's Smash moves causes freezing, so a weapon like Frost Tower or Shotgun Ice might work. I don't doubt that they'd have some similarities, but I think because of the unique tools they have from one another, it'd be more varied than Mario and Luigi, who certainly have their fair share of differences. Their different body types would help set them apart as well.

Of course using the MMX dashing and air dashing are ways to separate the characters as well. You'd also have the unique type of wall jumping that the Mega Man X games have.

As for whether or not they'd give Mega Man X armor, I think that depends on how deep their pockets might be, I don't think MMX would need it, but it's a cool idea and references the unique elements of his games.

Protoman can copy weapons in MM9 and 10, as well as the two arcade games.

Hopefully I didn't talk your ears off(or in this case, read your eyes off). But I wanted to show how I can see the characters being different. I feel like these issues people bring up should hopefully not be a big deal to overcome.

Geno still has a somewhat largely sized fanbase here.

These are the characters that were abandoned and pretended like they never existed by the Smash fanbase, despite being on par with Ridley and Rool during the Brawl/Smash 4 era.
