.LIt's the real reason I think indies outside of Reimu and Quote are mostly dead, most of them are too new. Shovel Knight, Shantae, and maybe possibly Frisk debatably survive barely.
I think Shantae is older than Quote but she’s a spirit anyway

Actually, if I'm not forgetting any, it's the third.

Fire Emblem Heroes has two songs (Gear Up For and the Heroic Origins remix of the main theme), and Nintendo Badge Arcade got two songs and a spirit and Assist Trophy for Arcade Bunny.
Are any of the newer Kirby Song ports from Team Kirby Deluxe or whatever it was called?

My most wanteds are virtually all never happening now, so I'm rooting for them as spirits. Come on, Hat Kid.

Warframe is a pretty welcome surprise. I originally was a founder waaay back in its early days. I haven't played the game in a while ever since focusing on fighting games, but it's a pretty big deal in the Free to Play space.

I'd imagine The Lotus will be enhanced into Excalibur. Crossing my fingers for Excalibur Prime though, my fav.

With the Warframe spirits coming; I would like to know what spirits do you guys think are coming. As in Spirits, that you think are going to come without fighters. They can be either 1st or 3rd party.

I think we'll be seeing these spirits, sometime during Ultimate's lifespan:

Xenoblade Chronicles DE: Yeah, sure most of them are already spirits. But putting them in around release is just free advertisement. Everyone has new artwork for a spirit.

Phoenix Wright OR DMC: Depends on who gets in as a fighter. If neither, then both will end up being spirited.

Tales OR Tekken: Again, same as above.

Disgaea: Disgaea 6 should be getting revealed officially soon, and I can't imagine they'd skip Switch. 5 was the most successful on the Switch, so it makes sense that the series will have a future on the Switch. Both NIS and NISA have been pretty supportive of the console too. Decently popular in Japan too.

Danganronpa: Sure it hasn't had an official appearance on a Nintendo console yet; but to me a Danganronpa Spirit event makes way more sense then a playable character as of now. Large cast to work from too.

Trails of Cold Steel 3: Releases (on Switch) next month in NA, and later in JP. Big cast to spirit, and pretty popular in Japan too. I wouldn't be surprised if this happens next month.

Undertale/Deltarune: Makes way too much sense at this point.

Hollow Knight: Probably will end up with a costume and a spirit event.

I've had a hunch since Byleth that Phoenix and Arle will both be Spirited. Maybe something from Level-5 or NIS if their characters aren't playable. Also, whatever Namco series doesn't get a spot in FP2 is a prime candidate for Spirits imo. So not just Tales or Tekken, but maybe also Soulcalibur and Souls, for example.

First party... BotW2 and MP4 are most certainly getting something if they release before the end of FP2.

If anyone is curious about Warframe (and by extension Digital Extremes), please check out No Clips documentary on the studio. I'll post part 1:

In any case, this fuels my personal belief that we will certainly get another western character in this fighters pass. There is someone watching over western companies and if there are some being picked as representatives for spirits I would imagine candidate for fighters is also a big possibility.

Jonesy would have a serious case in my books, but we have yet to get a third party that's that young. Even Bayonetta was older when she was added to Smash 4 through DLC, her series being around 6 years old (assuming Bayo was negotiated for in 2015). Fortnite was only over a year old when Smash Ultimate came out, and is currently 2 approaching 3.

I don't expect anybody less than 6 years old for third parties to get in (when it comes to series). Joker and Hero ver. Eleven the Luminary stretch it for individual characters, but Persona (even without counting Tensei) and DQ are way older than their most recent installments.

It's the real reason I think indies outside of Reimu and Quote are mostly dead, most of them are too new. Shovel Knight, Shantae, and maybe possibly Frisk debatably survive barely.
Tbh this line of reasoning makes me think if Bayo had been five years old, you'd say that's the necessary age. Had the series been eight years old you'd say that's the magic number. The truth is there is no magic number, it's always a case-by-case basis.

Frankly this is just another example of restrictions fabricated on the grounds of "it can't happen because it hasn't happened", which is a framework that's fallen so many times I'm surprised people still embrace it.

I still think that would look too weird since heights are set. Like the Ashley costume just looks strange too
(But I would 100% buy and use it regardless)
Well, the same could be said of other costumes like Protoman, Cuphead and Skull Kid. That's sort of the nature of these Mii Costumes. There's always bound to be one or two things slightly off about them.

Honestly, seeing these incredibly weird spirit events come out every other week or so has me more excited than the actual DLC reveals to come. Having all of these franchises in one game really just cements Smash as the greatest celebration of video games the world has to offer. Plus, Smash has always been a series very heavily rooted in Japanese game series, so seeing the franchise reach out a bit more to the west is always nice to see.

I really hope we continue to keep getting spirit events for franchises that would've been considered absolutely impossible a few years ago. Just going down the list of recent and upcoming Switch releases, I think series like Streets of Rage, Saints Row, Rune Factory, Puzzle and Dragons, Atelier, Frogger, Five Nights at Freddy's, Super Monkey Ball, Witcher, and Overwatch are all definitely notable enough to warrant a spirit event or a Mii Costume at the very least.

I actually think Proto Man's one of the better ones.

I mean that’s fair, but Hat Kid is legitimately just smol. Like the three you mentioned, they may look a little off (though I think Proto and especially Cuphead are very good), but by and large they still look like the character. Hat kid having adult proportions would look much stranger, kind of like the Toad costume or if they made an Olimar costume

According to Twitter's translation, this event is specifically "black spirits" hence why most of the spirits shown have the color black on them. I guess this event was made for Black History Month?

Yeah. But the Mii's body type is still fairly different from his actual design. Looking kind of frumpier.

Of course that's not getting into more realistically proportioned characters like Samus, Spring-Man, Ribbon Girl or Iori who have Mii costumes.

I can agree with Toad, though I'm sure if they did one with Hat Kid, it'd work out fine enough. Mii's aren't super tall.

There's probably enough spirits in the game to do an actual Black video game character thing. When they add TJ Combo as DLC, it'd be a pretty cool event.

I agree, I like seeing all the new franchises Smash is incorporating, even on a smaller, spirit-level scale. I'm sure the list of every series included in some form at this point would be insane.

Some people get antsy about possible deconfirmations when it comes to spirits... but that's indicative of a dangerous mindset, isn't it? The "in until proven out" kind, which so often gets people all bent out of shape when outcomes they've constructed tumble down. I'm of the "out until proven in" school, which makes most new series inclusions a very nice surprise. Even ones I don't know much about, like Warframe.

I mean, to each their own and all that, but you're going to be doing a lot more handwringing and stressing over one of the two approaches...

Oh boy... a Warframe Spirit... that's so.... zzzz.
Well, who exactly do you want anyway? Let alone for a Spirit event, but not something more substantial like a character? It should be kind of blessing in disguise no newer series people have been asking for got the Spirit treatment. Cause I'll admit to not caring about Warframe. But it's better than ruling out something like Crash or No More Heroes.

Though really, even a series like this getting mentioned is kind of neat, despite my lack of interest in it.

Most of the spirit event have been franchises that have either had a port or a game coming to switch announced in a direct.

Hmm....

I mean, that's just me though. Maybe others could see it happening, but Fortnite is an unproven franchise (it's not dying, but at any point something could just completely destroy it). As I had left out, Bayonetta had two games at that time, and also was announced as the winner of the Ballot (out of the realizable characters), the latter of which we can't disprove and that makes her a special case. That really can't be the case with Fortnite, simply due to how it is.

I don't think it will happen, and yes, it's mostly because it hasn't. But if it will, I actually think Fortnite will be the one to do it, simply because it attracts such an audience and the notoriety of it all will give Smash absurd publicity. I still generally don't believe in indies for now, though, and if I'm wrong... oh well, I'm wrong.

That makes sense but it's Nintendo and Sakurai so I'm guessing coincidence is likelier.

Well Warframe is already on Switch, but iirc the port didn't get announced in a Direct.

Right, but now what you're doing is the actual approach: evaluating the series (or character) based on the actual series (or character), not an arbitrary timeline.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but who IS Lotus from Warframe, exactly? I saw someone call her "space mom" on Twitter, but that's about it.

She's the guide character of the game like Midna or Fi are to their respective games.

I can only imagine the reception of a Fortnite spirit event
Eh, wouldn't be that big of a deal. None of the characters are super requested unlike with Steve, but the game itself is still really popular. Sure you could say it has memes and "ew kids like it" But the same can be said of Undertale, Pokemon and Sonic, with those being in the game already.

Imagine if they did to Fortnite spirits, but instead of having the named characters that nobody cares about, it's just the dance moves.
So is the Default Dance Novice or Legend rank?

On one hand, it's the basic dance that everybody has, and is basically the starter. On the other hand, it's so iconic and notorious that anything less than Legend kinda feels wrong.

A spirit event? Probably groans. Even a costume I'd suspect most people could look past.

Now if a Fortnite character got in, that's when there'd be a storm to weather.
A storm? Guess we’d have to stay in the safe zone then :4pacman:
