A lot of my biggest Smash wants came from the DS and Wii era. It wasn't even my "first" gaming era, which was the transition between SNES and N64 (with the Game Gear and later Game Boy being my first systems I ever played) but so many fantastic games with super memorable characters came out during it that just stuck with me. Sure, I had, like, Marina Liteyears and to a much lesser extent Banjo and Bomberman, but those faded along the way. And while some characters (Chibi-Robo, Elite Beat Agents, Ashley Robbins, Kyle Hyde) have been somewhat lost to time, others (Travis Touchdown, Phoenix Wright, Style Savvy, Neku Sakuraba) have only grown on me as the years have gone by.

What a great era for unusual games and characters. Really a golden age. I'm hoping we get at least one rep from that era in this pass.

Honestly the DS is without a doubt the most important console to me like yourself. I remember getting a Nintendo DS with Super Mario 64 DS, Pac-Pix and WarioWare Touched way back in 2005.
It was a golden age for experimental games without a doubt. Kinda wish I was a few years older to really appreciate it back then.

While I agree that there aren’t many picks directly from the DS era, that’s not how characters are selected.

Like yeah, I agree that Lucario is one of the only characters who debuted there, but Lucario is also still a pretty bomb Pokémon now. Among other Nintendo characters, they’re mostly in the game in another form, like Nintendogs and Dr. Kawashima. Brain Age was the ****.

Though, I’d also argue that much of the success of the DS game from series that were major already, with games like Mario, Pokémon, Zelda, and others taking up many first party development cycles.

Not really in disagreement. Just don’t think a character should be added simply to “represent” the DS. However, if they add something pretty cool then I’m super down.

Like, despite really backing Dante, if I can’t have him...bring on Phoenix Wright. That works for me.

I don't think anyone would argue for a character to specifically represent the DS era, just that the DS era has some truly excellent choices that have so far missed out due to timing or third-party priorities. Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright, Neku Sakuraba, and Cooking Mama are just a handful of iconic characters from that era that I'd love to see in on their own merits and because they give me warm nostalgic fuzzies.

I love that we have a Nintendog and Kawashima as assist trophies still. Just a great nod to an important era. Still sad the EBA missed out but I was overjoyed to see them, the Ouendan, and the cheerleaders, plus Kyle Hyde and Ashley Robbins as spirits.

Since Zippo wasn’t banned yet it’s possible his info WAS correct but again, coronavirus affecting Chinese factories caused delays on the Japan side of things. There are shortages of Switches lately after all

What I'm thinking too. I think the whole coronavirus fiasco delayed the direct.

We'll see. Personally, I don't think the Direct is being delayed because of the coronavirus (and if it is, the wait would probably be longer than a week).

Wouldn't surprise me if this date was planned from the very beginning because they wanted the last batch of New Horizons info to be released roughly a month before launch.

I don't think it would have been long before the official announcement of the pass that all 6 characters were decided. Some were maybe decided/negotiated before, but I think that both passes were locked in no earlier than september 2018/2019 respectively.

No one knows for sure. They may have had a few finalized by then, but there's no proof of that. All we know is that the pass was finalized no later than November 2019.

Best you can do is make an educated guess.

Although I would make Starry Heavens a Remix and Fighting of the Spirit there. Good idea for the series symbol though with the safe icon.

It could be a remix, but I left the vocal themes untouched. I'll have to look up 'Fighting of the Spirit'.

I have the template on my laptop, along with an altered one I did for alt costumes instead of Spirits, but I'll have to wait til I'm home to share them.

I believe it's supposed to come out Thursday, will probably leak sooner.

Internet was messing up, so it took longer than I thought to post my tier list, but here it is:

With five games in and a wave of dlc just finished, I have a question for everyone. Are any of your dream characters a fighter in smash?

For me, sort of. There were a lot of characters that I liked that got into smash such as Sonic, Mega Man, and Ryu. But I never actively gave much serious thought about the possibility of them arriving before they were revealed. While I'm grateful they got in, Phoenix would technically be the first dream character that I've actively wanted.

Brawl introduced my two dream characters, Lucario, and Sonic. Smash 4 introduced most of the characters I really wanted, but were not necessarily dream characters: Palutena, Lucina, and Corrin. Cloud was definitely up there too but no one expected him to come to Smash glad he did though. However Ammy, Sora, Shantae, and Krystal (rip) are the dream characters I've been waiting for the longest.

DMC3 is releasing this week on the Switch.

I'm dreading a Spirit event release this week, or the coming weeks, and sincerely hope it won't be of DMC...

For the sake of everyone's personal Capcom rep I hope it isn't Capcom period.

It's cool we are getting an Animal Crossing Direct. But it's weird how it's not a general one. Makes me wonder if this is the format they are going for now. Game specific/ indie directs throughout the year with one or two major general directs.

I believe it was Zippo who hinted that there would be two Directs this month. Can't remember what all he said from that, but he did say something about two Directs, including the one that was just announced 20 minutes ago.
