Guess what, they put in Byleth before Three Houses was even released, and around the time it was revealed people were wanting Edelgard. Don't act like they put in Byleth because people wanted him when they decided upon it in advance.
He'll probably just talk about the process of deciding Fighters Pass 2 i.e. if the characters were negotiated for from Pass 1 and were on the original list, if new negotiations occurred, and if so, when they occurred, etc.
Quite a few people have a case of Tunnel vision when it comes to potential Smash reps. To them if they ain't Sora/Geno/Waluigi/Doom Guy/Master Chief/Hayabusa, they don't have a chance to be in Smash and they get pissy if someone else gets added in.

It sounds like Byleth had lucky timing on their side, just like Corrin. Only this time with a better-received game.
They're not going to show all 6 fighters in a month, especially when the pass will last until December 2021
I think at most all we would get is a Joker like teaser.
We got the First Fighters Pass to off of. I'm 100% that there's going to be a Fire Emblem Heroes characters added in so they can say that there's a mobile character in Smash Bros.
When the fighters were chosen, clarifying if pass 2 was planned all along and simply announced later or something they decided afterwards, etc.
Dragalia lost is more likely, they added a music track for heroes and I think they'd rather introduce something totally new

Haven't you heard? Only character that have been requested since Brawl are worthy of the title of "fan favourite". Every other character that got popular and/or was created after 2009 is either a shill pick or a literally who.
The rule of 'obligatory Nintendo character' as Sakurai was offended by how people demanded first parties after getting first parties and a DLC character who caters exclusively to Nintendo purists

I'm a fervent believer of Steve in Smash, not because I want him, but because Sakurai likes Minecraft. Minecraft is undubitably a piece of history in gaming, and Sakurai likes that kind of reference. That and Microsoft is already in the game with Banjo and, apparently, easy to work with.

Yes, he thinks Hero is solely about shilling DQXIS despite its hero not being the only one you can play as.
Funny thing is, a lot of fans think like this unironically.

Even the examples you brought up sound very insightful, we usually only hear about those kinds of details after the content has come out. If the second Pass is really going to be the main topic of his next column, then it's worth getting excited about imo, we know so little about it that just about anything he could say would give us something new to chew on.

Byleth's game released less than a year ago. I'd constitute that as new.
I would've been pretty disappointed with Edelgard since she's easily my least favorite of the lords. Byleth really was the best choice they could've made to rep Three Houses, IMO.Okay, I was being a little cheeky before, but in all seriousness: I wanted Byleth before even playing Three Houses 'cause I thought they looked cool.
To just blanket statement say "Every FE fan wanted Edelgard/no one wanted Byleth" is cherry picking and just plain rude. :/

Honestly that's what I'm most excited about. We really know nothing in regards to Pass 2, so any information can help clarify speculation further.
Not really any different from any other day ITT, Wynn or no Wynn. FE bad, old character bad, first party bad, third party bad, etc.

Sakurai seems to contradict himself in this translation:

It's probably more of an inflated estimation. I'd say we'll get the last character about a month early tops.
This isn't really a helpful argument. A 5 second google search only puts a face to the name. It doesn't tell you why you should care, and if you don't care, you're not gonna dig any deeper. On the other hand, asking people on the internet does all that and could potentially entice you with the premise or fun facts about the character or game in question.
