March 20th, actually. Same day as Doom Eternal.
Hm. So the prediction of early March at the latest still stands.

Really just from the Geno thread; not from Fatman (though I disagree with what others say about him), and not a Geno fan, but idk. He’s Nessdeltarune. He just seems to get a bit of info, and said he viewed Fatman better because of a Mii list with Cuphead and said he heard a few other things Fatman also heard, despite him being critical of Fatman.

Since he seems like he could be trusted based on what I’ve read in there, even if we tend to argue, what he said + plus all the Paper Mario and Pikmin rumors and whatever going around are just making me hope/think there’s a good chance of a direct this week or the next. Sabi also said something about ports in a very close direct:

I see. I'm taking it with a grain of salt, then.

Well we are in need of at least an animal crossing direct as all we've seen of the game thus far is the opening segment. Unless the game doesn't have a Quarter of the features of the old games then we've only see the wooden pickaxe part of the crafting tech tree.

I'm fairly certain Nessdeltrarune is not a viable source at all and I don't know why we're taking stock into what he says. He's just like the rest of us, a speculator.
Maybe, idk. I just thought maybe he heard things from a discord or something, since he seemed to be in the same boat as some others in here regarding Fatman but has recently changed his tune somewhat.

Sabi also mentioned a “very close direct,” though, so maybe this month regardless.

We also need to know the Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition release date...

Here's something to talk about: Think of a character that you never expected, but has become one of your favorite additions to the roster?

For me, there are quite a few. Obviously Snake is a big one, but Greninja, Robin, Cloud, and Joker stand out as well. They were all picks that I really jive with in terms of the way they play, and in terms of Cloud, Joker, and Snake...it made me play their own games and I appreciated them even more.

Pokemon Trainer is another that, while I didn't appreciate them as I should have when they initially came in Brawl, I'm so, so glad they're back for Ultimate. Insanely fun!
For Brawl, I say Snake and R.O.B. since I was not familiar with either of them.
For Smash 4, I didn't think Shulk would make it but I'm happy he did.
For Ultimate, TERRY.
So, since it's February now: What are everyone's expectations for a Direct? This upcoming week, or the one thereafter?
I don't think we are getting a Direct in February.
At the latest, we'll be getting one in March though no Smash content.
We might get a tease in April, but we won't get more details until E3.

With all due respect, none of those sources are reputable.

Everything Sabi has spewed as of late has come days (or weeks) after having been said by someone like Emily or Zippo (who don't shield themselves with nearly as much indecisiveness). At least everything that isn't so vague it could point towards a hundred different outcomes.

I mean Emily was talking about one of these Wii U ports maybe half a year ago.

Anyone who keeps their ear to the ground could make, honestly, the exact same claims. Sabi's becoming a real markomaro.

If Tellius does actually get a remake, I'm hoping they do what they did in the original Mystery of the Emblem, where Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn are included together in one package but are still considered separate games. Their gameplay is slightly too different to really include them as one, long game.

I am more than open to having what the player does in Path of Radiance influence Radiant Dawn though.
Yeah, I agree.
Besides a graphical update both games could have some improvements, specially Radiant Dawn: including actual supports, a better balance of units availability... and make both games more faster in terms of gameplay of course, I love PoR and RD but in some maps, specially in RD, you're watching the enemy phase for minutes lmao

Now that's something I severely doubt. That'd mean that Nintendo has gone about half a year without any major news blow-out, and I really can't see that. Especially not since all previous years had something of the sort in January/February.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Sakurai say on Twiiter when Byleth was revealed that the next reveal would take some time? Even if we do get a direct this week it may not include Smash info.

"Its going to take some time for FP6 to come out" - Sakurai.

Sounds like E3. Earliest though I can see is April but even then I doubt that.

I think that it would be financial suicide to hold Fighter 6's reveal until E3.
But being realistic we are probably going to have to wait till E3. Byleth isn’t really an indicator of what’s to come as that was a different pass and most people aren’t going to buy the pass until they find out the first character anyway so it’s not like holding it off will do any bad. And I’ll come out and say it now we will not be getting a double reveal at E3. The reason they did it last year was due to how little we knew aside from Joker and E3 seemed appropriate enough to do a dual reveal

I don't think it really matters if they wait until E3 before unveiling the next DLC character. Anyone who needs to see the first character before purchasing the pass is probably still going to be interested by June. Who the next fighter is should be more important than the length of time we have to wait.

It should be somewhat expected though. There's bound to be a gap between passes, so it's either reveal the character now and make us wait five to six months or wait until E3 and do a shadowdrop.

The one thing against an E3 reveal is that, even assuming they did absolutely no work at all on FP6 until Byleth was finished, it would still mean it will take them almost half a year to create a single character. That just sounds crazy.

More like it's realistic. They don't work on one fighter at a time, so those two months between fighters aren't consisting of the very start and very end of their development.

I could see a Terry-style reveal for the FP2's first fighter, where the fighter is revealed but there's no gameplay footage.

Not that I expect any new character till E3 but I don’t think that’s one of the reasons. It could be but it also could not be.

Same. That's why I think something in April is possible.

Still forgetting the gap between:ultjoker:and:ulthero:/:ultbanjokazooie:eh?
That's not the same. Between Joker's reveal and the E3 Duo reveal we had Plant and Joker Drop. We've never gone more than 3 months without something "new". The gap between Byleth's Release and an E3 reveal would be 5 ****ing months of absolute deadness.

I'm just wondering if people who are speaking emphatically about what a folly it would be to not reveal FP6 soon are under the impression that when the character does get revealed, people won't just pick up the pass then?

Like, yeah, it would've made sense to reveal the first character along with the pack itself, but the fervour will pick back up when the character is revealed. Especially since a Direct will get more eyes than a Smash presentation, and E3 will get more eyes than a Direct. It's not like the window where people are going to buy the whole pass has ended, as if we were on FP10 or FP11.

It absolutely would. It would cause many players to drop out due to the long wait, decreasing the sales of FP2 in the process.

There was still PP dropping in February and Joker dropping in April, so this wasn't a dead period.

Yeah, I ain't putting too much stock into any of these rumors. 2D Metroid, Paper Mario being good again, Pikmin ports, AND Mario Kart 9? Might as well throw Mother 3 on there, that's all this needs to be your average 4chan Direct "leak".

Next Direct is most likely gonna make people mad, as these rumors combined with the wait since September for a General Direct is making people waaaaaay overhype this. Smash news ain't even a given either, IMO.

No it wouldn’t. If it’s a character they like they’d be roped back in. If it’s a character they don’t care about they wouldn’t have bought it anyway so it wouldn’t make a difference.

Some people bought the Fighter Pass in advance without knowing any of the characters.

I think the major precipice of player loss comes in the initial few months after release. More a year later and I think you've got a diminished but much more stable audience. Sure you'll still gradually have that pool narrow, but not to the extent the gap of a few months' silence constitutes a monumental blunder.

People are gonna buy it no matter the wait. Even if people leave speculation, they'll still see the reveal and buy the character if it's one they want.

There is absolutely no reason to think waiting will hurt anything, especially when like, most people who play Smash don't really care how long it takes and don't watch the game reveals like a hawk 24/7. The speculation community is the 1% of the playerbase that plays a new character for 5 seconds and then goes "Where's the next one? I'm bored".

That’s not the point tbh. My point is the people who aren’t hardcore smash fans probably wouldn’t have bought the pass yet at least not until they see the first character and if it’s someone they don’t care about or don’t want they won’t buy it. If it’s vice versa they will buy it. It doesn’t matter how long they hold off the pass because it won’t have any major affect on sales

I don't see any reason why they couldn't do a Joker-esque game awards style trailer for the first character where they show an animated trailer without gameplay for the next Nintendo direct.

It's either that or Nintendo must be pretty confident that people will buy the pass and not know who the first character is until E3.

Sakurai's an enigmatic speaker. I'm not sure how to take a lot of what he says. All I'm saying is that 5 months of dead air does not seem likely to happen. We've known about Volume 2 since September and I refuse to believe that a dev team that can work on 3 fighters at the same time didn't start the first volume 2 character,at minimum, sometime before Terry officially released.

I'm thinking they're going to wait till E3 to announce the character not because they'll be working on them for that long, but because I think they're taking a small break. Has it been confirmed that they're developing FP6 as we speak?

A bit out of the loop here, but where did the rumor about a Tellius remake come from?

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Sakurai say on Twiiter when Byleth was revealed that the next reveal would take some time? Even if we do get a direct this week it may not include Smash info.
He did, Push put up a translation of it:

I get the feeling that Nintendo knows what they’re doing with their content, because not only is Smash Ultimate the highest selling fighting game ever, but the DLC has been especially successful.

This “doom and gloom” people are speaking of seems like nothing more than armchair video game marketers who just want another character to whet their appetite for 20 minutes, before they move onto the next one.

No offense, that’s just what it seems like to me. It’ll be fine. We’ll either get the character in the next Direct, or it’ll be at E3. Either one will likely work fine.

I get folks are excited and for good reason. I am too! I just don’t buy the doom and gloom.
