People really thirsty for a Nintendo direct lol.
I'm not pulling my hair out, but it has certainly been a minute since the last general Direct. I believe I saw someone on another site surmise that this has been the longest between general Directs (counting E3) for four or five years.

Mixed with the fact that very little of the 2020 slate is actually known, and the games we do know about we've seen very little of (for the most part) and I do kinda get the twitchiness.

And on my end, very little of the anticipation is Smash-related. I mean, we did just get a character. A character I'm not big on, but a character nonetheless, so expecting another seems unwise. If it happens, great, but getting hopes up is a risky move. At least we know how many more we're set to receive.

Or maybe, just maybe...hear me out on this one guys:

Nintendo has more to reveal and release than just Smash.

Crazy, I know, but I think it's possible.
And because of this is that I believe 6 is probably around the corner and Vol. 2 will probably be done by E3 2021. I mean, think about it:
1. Smash has been "stealing the attention" ever since the March Direct in 2018, with the February 2019 Direct being the only exception (and that had no reveal because Joker was known). When the reveal isn't the headline, it's always the second thing brought up about the Direct over everything else. March 2018, E3 2018, September 2018, TGA 2018, E3 2019, September 2019, people disappointed with no Smash Reveal at TGA 2019, even with Bravely Default 2 and No More Heroes 3 appearing in the show. This trend will continue in 2020, but Nintendo knows how much Smash takes the spotlight (I mean, that's why Byleth is here as well). That's why...
2. Unless they specify beforehand, Smash Ultimate will always appear in a General Direct until it's all said and done, with a character reminder, Sakurai presents after or a new reveal. We don't know who is next, so it's new reveal time. Remember how people said we had to have a General Direct in January? This shows that people always expect Smash in a Direct, so no reveal would get backlash no matter what (unless they disclose no presence).
3. Sakurai and his team released 5 character packs in a span of 12 months since launch. Why would they take 23 months to release 6? The DLC team is already smaller from base, so they wouldn't reduce it even more, increase the number of packs and spend more money because of a longer cycle if they wanted to be cost efficient.
12/5 = 2.4 months/pack
January 2020 => 2.4 months * 6 packs = 14.4 months => March/April 2021

In terms of when the next General Direct will happen: 90% betting on this week, 10% the next one; After those weeks is PS5 reveal territory: they need to call attention to their 2020 before Sony does, because we know almost nothing so far.
As for 6 is, I'm guessing Geno or a popular fan favorite from outside the Smash fanbase (no idea who).

Yeah, I'm more interested in a Nintendo Direct at this point for Nintendo 2020 news than I am Smash news. Smash got a lot recently, so while I'm certainly excited and anxious as everyone else (even somewhat hopeful) about the next reveal, I'm also fairly satiated right now with Byleth and another 6 fighters on the way. My two major concerns for future DLC were always: Will there be Stages and Spirits Boards with future DLC? (Yes) and How much more DLC will we receive (I was worried we might only get like 2-3 more fighters)? (6 was the answer). The who, what, and when will come later.

But Nintendo as a whole? Well, besides Animal Crossing which we've known about since September 2018 officially and is about to release, the only thing that Nintendo has really talked about has been Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. Which is really cool! But, it's also a HD remake of an existing title and that was there big "one more" in the September 2019 Direct which was the last time Nintendo talked to us about their future plans. 2020 is kind of wide open right now and there's not a whole lot of indication of what we might get. Sure, there's Shin Megami Tensei V and Bayonetta 3 existing in the air out there alongside Bravely Default 2 and Pokemon DLC, but it's just very quiet right now coming off of the jam packed year that was 2019 for Nintendo. I want to see what comes next now that so many of Nintendo's biggest titles and franchises are already on the system with incredible entries. What comes next?

I'm just gonna keep playing smash until something new comes up. Gotta refine my skills with the three fighting game characters.

This is fake based solely on the fact that Nintendo has to cater to what I want all the time

it's over 17 years since Metroid Fusion. Come on Sakamoto, you know you want to continue the storyline. JUST DO IT. I WANT TO WITNESS THE GLORY OF THE
WARRIOR CHOZO ALREADY.

Those rumors are the only reason I’m so anxious for the next Direct. I can wait for Smash, Zelda, Mario, whatever else might be on the table, but there is no game I’ve waited for longer than Fusion’s continuation (I think since 2004/5-ish?), so even when it’s just a rumor it hits a little too close for me to not get nervy. I just want to be able to shake that feeling off, whether the rumors pan out or not, and let’s be real, they usually don’t when it comes to Metroid.

I really want to know who this Chozo is, I really like his design.

It would be really interesting if this Chozo general is somehow alive and a major antagonist. It would be interesting to have Samus fight against a militant Chozo remnant, would be a real change of pace from the normal space pirates. Maybe the game could also have a exploration of Samus' childhood growing up with the Chozo.

You're not alone. Metroid 5 should already happened at this point. When it comes to Nintendo a new 2D Metroid game is one of the things I want the most.
Even if it's not announced at the next direct at least the game has been rumoured for a while. I remember Vergeben saying days before last E3 that he heard about a new Warioware game and a new 2D Metroid title.

I'm one of those who thinks Metroid Fusion approach of narrative works pretty well with the franchise, definitely better than what Other M tried to do.

This especially just adds even more reason for me to be excited about the prospect. The Chozo lore is by far my favorite part of Metroid’s story, and it’s something I’ve been dying to see be explored in more ways than visiting old deserted ruins. There’s so much potential for them to do all sorts of cool stuff with it, or they could even just go completely crazy and have Samus be stuck in a sort of three way tug of war between these new Chozo, the Federation and the Space Pirates, if nothing else it would at least solve SR’s issue with lacking enemy variety.

Either way I’m already preparing my banners and flags to support that random Chozo general for Smash.

Hey so uhhh that Super Bowl is happening tonight. Who thinks they're gonna reveal John Madden as Fighter #6 tonight?
Mike Vick from Madden 04 is my pick. Can have the best speed in the game behind Sonic
Or Bo Jackson from Tecmo Bowl. Thought about voting for him on the ballot

You know...
I secretly want the mainline Metroid storyline to intertwine with the Prime storyline sometime in the future, and have some sort of ultimate Dark SA-X running around. But at the same time I don’t want it to feel rehashed.

On the other hand, I too was just thinking of a similar concept of having an old chozo warrior, maybe Samus’s Predecessor, be the main antagonist of the next entry.

I do think there’s a lot of ground to cover regarding the Metroid lore. It’s as big as space itself.

It would be telling if Smash doesn't appear at all in the next presentation given that every single general direct since March 2018 has had some bit of Smash news in it. Even the one in February last year at least showed off Joker's in game model and announced his release period in April.

If we get nothing at all in the presentation this month (and no video by this Friday it would mark the longest period between Directs) then that might be a sign of where their progress is on Fighter Pass 2.

Doesn't Samus Returns solidify the Prime games as canon with Ridley showing up the way he did in the end? He's still half cyborg by Samus Returns and he's only a cyborg in the Prime games.

As for a plot post-Fusion, the Chozo shown in Samus Returns would be pretty cool to see into fruition as the antagonistic force. Also, am I the only one who thinks the X-Parasites aren't fully terminated? I think one of the SA-X on board the BLS had to have escaped; the X aren't above sending their own to die so one could have easily abandoned ship. The Power Suit lets Samus survive the void of space in the Prime games so I'm willing to be if one of them survived, they might be still in the void of space. Federation Force also showed that there is one more Metroid hatchling in space so Samus isn't the only one left. I know Sylux is Prime, but Samus Returns solidified the Prime games as canon so Prime 4 can take place after Fusion. Plus, a Prime game with Fusion's atmosphere would be bananas.

There's also the whole "Samus is basically a fugitive now" thing going on.

Yeah I love the Chozo, the fact that Samus was raised by these enigmatic precursor species has always been interesting to me, I would love some more flashbacks of her childhood with them.

I've thought It would be cool idea if maybe a faction of the Chozo decide to splice their DNA with Metroid DNA in order to counter-act their aging by sucking the lifeforce of other living things like how metroids do. Kind of turning them into a sci-fi vampire, which would be a nice nod to Castlevania.

Also the Chozo General had an arm canon similar to the powersuit's, I can already see the cool boss potential with that (and maybe for Smash one day if he becomes a reoccurring or popular character.)

I’m expecting a Nintendo direct either this week or next, I’m not losing sleep over it though.
Me too. Though I'll be more lenient and hope for something, SOMETHING within the month. It would be odd for Nintendo to shell out nothing for February or anything considering the tons of upcoming content yet to be announced.,

Ah... I didn’t play the remake, so I might be lacking in context.

But I agree on the parasite part. It could have definitely survived. Heck, there could be a whole planet full of them. Hope we get to explore that someday.

Well, we know Prime 4 and Bayo 3 are supposed to be real video games. So I hope those real videogames get something we can sink our teeth into soon. And I want to see the next main Mega Man game Capcom's working on, if it got far along enough for a trailer.

Though if Metroid 5 is real, that'd be pretty sick too. There's also stuff for the Paper Mario games going back to their classic style. I can see the need for a remake of the first one, but ideally, it'd be a new game that just had the combat and character of the first two games.

Of course outside of a Nintendo Direct, I want to see what Spawn'll play like in MK11 or not. And if that W101 port is gonna happen or not.

Bayo 3 is an actual game now? Never heard of it.

Only joking. I'm also eagerly waiting for Bayo 3 next and hope there is at least something in the next Direct. I'm looking forward to that more than the next character DLC for smash. Byleth kinda tempered my expectations.

So I’m interested in buying Three Houses. I despised fire emblem fates and I loved awakening. Which is it more like?

I don’t mean this as a troll or negative comment but I’m not a fan of weeb stuff, is it more on the side of being weebish or nah?

Neither, really. It's about as weeb as Awakening and Fates.

So I Asked this on Gamefaqs, and i wanted to get Smashboards opinion on this as well

But I ask, Am I the only one predicting Shadow the Hedgehog for FP2? I've seen People predicting New Pokemon, Rex & Pyra, Sora, Geno, Waluigi, CJ from Grand Theft Auto, Sora, Another Fire Emblem Character, a BOTW2 Character, Rayman, etc

I haven't seen anyone predict Shadow the hedgehog though. Am I Along on this one?

It's closer to Persona than either of those really. If you mean just quality wise then Awakening 100%

You can't have children with your waifus so I'd say it's automatically less weeb than both.

As much as that would absolutely rock.

I say no. Assist Trophies are final.
Yes, Sakurai “might” change his mind and promote one. But as it hasn’t happened before (in the same game) there’s more weight behind the probability that it won’t happen. (Same goes for Waluigi and all ATs).

So if anything, I think Tails has a bigger chance. Or Dr.Eggman.

Joke: The AT will prevent Shadow from being DLC
Woke: Sonic's alt costume stinginess will

Depends on your perception of the series after you play. To me, it's more on leaning towards realism than anything.
