It's clear that Byleth getting in was the reason why Three Houses didn't get a Spirit event like Daemon x Machina, Pokemon Sword & Shield, and Astral Chain got. I think that it's too late for Sword & Shield, but I think that a Gen 9 Pokemon could get in if Ultimate's DLC cycle lasts that long.

I think it's more likely we get a Gen 8 Pokemon with more Spirits bundled in with it than a Pokemon from a Gen that won't exist until 2022 at the earliest. By then, Ultimate would be four years old.

This DLC can't last indefinitely.

This is a theory I got to explain why its gonna take 2 years for FP2 to be completed.
I think both the team and budget for fighters pass 2 is smaller then it was for FP1, despite having an additional character. I think for this reason is why I am betting that at least 3 of FP2's characters are gonna first party characters. As they are much cheaper to get a hold then any third party characters due to Nintendo already owning them and not having to worry licensing fees and royalties.

I hope that is true honestly. There has been, in my opinion, far to much focus on what company is getting into smash recently, and not just adding in some good Nintendo characters.

So how's everyone enjoying the reveal of FP5 aka Byleth so far?

I'd like em better if they were in my hands to be honest. Half of my love for a character comes from how they play.
Other than that, Byleth is better than I expected. I'm more mad that the lords aren't more involved in their moveset if anything.

People say Byleth should've been first, but I feel like that's forgetting that everyone was worried about a Three Houses rep between the November Direct and the Joker trailer.

I believe that Byleth showing up before their game came out would've been an even bigger dumpster fire. But since we're well past its release, Byleth was able to build up a good support base to weather the whole thing out and to convince people that they'd actually be deserving of a spot.

If Three Houses turned out to be a bad and undeserving game, however...well, I suppose it's just a good thing that it was received a whole lot better than Pokemon Sword & Shield was.

Not to mention that as Joker was critically acclaimed, people were excited to see him and thought "Well, surely the entire fighter pass must be as exciting as him!" So they quickly pre order passes, and as they were already told not to get the pass if they weren't confident in it's value, they only have themselves to blame if they're not satisfied as seen with Byleth.


Speaking of, genuine question, if you bought the pass, when did you buy it and do you regret it? If you regret it, was it because of more than 1 character, which would easily make you feel like you wasted money?

Hey, I would take Byleth or any FE/Pokemon pick over the emo trash that was Joker any day of the week. Joker got better representations than even the ****ING SONIC THE HEDGEHOG series which is 5x popular. Sakurai could have at least fixed the debauchery that was the Tails costume.

The way SEGA is represented in Smash in general is awful.

Bayonetta and Joker feel nothing like Sega characters at all.
The company famous for bright blue skies, beaches with palm trees, orcas, air fleets, Floating islands with windmills, colorful casinos, back alley streets where you fight thugs, arcade score attacks, rankings is represented mostly by characters from games that mostly dont fit those descriptions at all.

Compare Bayo and Joker to these goofy vibrant Sega characters like Vyse, Sakura, Ulala, Beat, Arle, Opa Opa, etc and it just feels wrong.

Hell the Hornet Car from Daytona has more personality than Joker.

The worst part is Reiko Kodama and Yu Suzuki have no playable representation yet. Literally two incredible influential people to the industry who work at sega and nothing by them repped aside from the Akira AT.

I can't blame people. Sakurai keeps putting lame characters in when you got legendary characters out there like Doom Guy, Sora, Crash, Masterchief, Ryu Hayabusa, etc. that he could pull from. Smash was built on legends: Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Kirby, Pikachu, Star Fox all in the same game. The early third parties were legends: Snake, Sonic, Megaman, Pacman, Ryu, Cloud. Then it just turned into a thud. Yes we get good ones here and there like Simon Belmont or Banjo-Kazooie but we primarily tend to get these thuds that MOST people don't care about like Joker.

Bruh people were hyped as **** for Joker, because Persona is consider to be a legendary franchise with Persona 5 being the Atlus and by extension Sega's most critically acclaim game of the decade with it being nominated for a bunch of GOTY awards in 2017. Persona at this point should be consider a legendary franchise since 3 and 4 are two the best games on the PS2 and 5 being one of the best PS4 games.

I didn't buy it when it was announced because I didn't have any expectations for the pass.

I bought the pass around the time of Ultimate's Launch and I am satisfied:
1. Joker I didn't know but I love Arsene as a comeback mechanic. The music is dope as well.
2. Hero is someone I thought would be boring. Command Selection and Random Crits proved to make Hero Fair and Balanced (those who play TF2 will get the joke here).
3. I wanted Banjo & Kazooie to join Smash and am satisfied with them (though the stage could do with less rotating).
4. Terry is someone I thought "who?" (even though I played Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, my favs there were Athena and some old guy). Terry has proven to be the most fun of the fighters. The music also wins in terms of quantity.
5. Byleth is the one I refuse to judge until we get them.

I feel like well get characters 6 and 7 at E3 2020 and character and 9 and 10 at E3 2021.

If nothing else because historically Smash has always revealed at least 2 characters at every E3 where smash news is revealed:
2013:Megaman, Villager and Wii fit trainer
2014: Pacman, Palutena and Mii
2015:Roy and Ryu
2018:Daisy and Ridley
2019:Hero and Banjo

I don't really expect that to change here.

I've watched the trailer a rather unhealthy amount of times.

The absence of God-Shattering Star and lack of Divine Pulse shenanigans in their moveset is a bit of a bummer, but I love the decision to incorporate the Heroes' Relics into their kit and the alternate colors that reference the three lords are ****ing sweet as hell.

Everything you just said could be spinned onto any franchise. Why is it only applicable to FE?

I think a lot of us would be a little peeved at any series being shown the level of favouritism Fire Emblem gets regardless of whether we liked the series or not. I like a lot of franchises in Smash but am not excited or particularly interested by the prospects of adding new characters for many of them.

You can look at something like Generations, Valkyria Chronicles, and Yakuza and still see the Sega DNA in it
