Hi everyone,
Anywho, because it's topical, I figured I'd show off my Edelgard moveset again, since I did tweak it a bit.

Edelgard uses her signature axe, Aymr, in Smash Bros. She's the shortest of the current Fire Emblem cast, but not by a large margin. She's not very quick, about on par with Mii Swordfighter, while also being decently heavy due to her axe.

To offset these characteristics, her playstyle revolves around taking full control of and limiting the opponent's movement options, allowing her to more easily get a few solid hits in. In Fire Emblem Three Houses, one major new feature is the Battalion and Gambit system, which works off of the user's Charm stat and Authority level. By selecting a Gambit, a battalion of soldiers joins a unit for a group attack, and these can have various effects.

One common theme is limiting the target's options. Opponents can't counter attack, Gambits often leave Beast units dazed and unable to strike, and when used on normal enemies, they often prevent them from moving at all.

Edelgard's best combat ranks in Three Houses are Axes and Authority, which would make up her moveset here. This also showcases her personality, as someone who always has a plan and leaves nothing to chance. By eliminating the opponent's escape options, she forces them to face her head on, where she can then deliver a decisive blow.

Jab - A two-hit combo attack, wherein Edelgard hits the opponent in a chopping motion with her axe, alternating which side she swings from.

Dash Attack - While running, Edelgard swings her axe upward from the ground in an arching sweep.

Forward Tilt - A two-strike attack, similar to Meta Knight and Piranha Plant. On the first hit, Edelgard sweeps her axe from the side, and the second hit has her continuing the motion as she swings it downward from overhead.

Up Tilt - Edelgard swings her axe from the ground to above her head in an almost golf club-like motion.

Down Tilt - While crouching, Edelgard kicks outward while holding her axe close by.

Neutral Air - Edelgard swings Aymr in a complete circle around her body. If this move is held, she keeps performing this move and each subsequent swing gets a lightning effect with high hitstun.

Up Air - Edelgard performs a motion similar to Ike's old up air, but with a fire effect imbuing the axe.

Forward Air - Edelgard slams Aymr downward in front of her, and if the foe makes contact with the spiked end, they get, well, spiked.

Back Air - Edelgard swings Aymr behind her. If an opponent is hit, a small explosion-like fire effect activates and launches them backwards.

Down Air - Edelgard slams Aymr downward, falling downward with it. If she hits an opponent in the air with it, they both plummet straight down and, upon hitting the ground, the foe takes very high damage. The move has a lightning effect to reference the Lightning Axe art.

Forward Smash - Taken from her own Smash combat art, Edelgard leaps forward and smashes Aymr into the ground in front of her.

Up Smash - Edelgard thrusts Aymr skyward as a giant projection of the Crest of Flames envelops it, the sigil doing rapid multi-hit damage before exploding.

Down Smash - Edelgard ducks down and spins Aymr along the ground in a circle as one fluid motion. Shortly afterwards, the circled area around her bursts into flames for an additional attack.

Pummel - Edelgard grabs the foe and bashes them with Aymr.

Forward Throw - Based on the Smite maneuver, Edelgard launches the foe forward with high knockback by swinging her axe at them. This is a powerful kill throw.

Back Throw - Edelgard throws the opponent, slamming them into the ground behind her.

Up Throw - Edelgard uses one hand to launch the foe skyward.

Down Throw - Edelgard throws the foe into the ground beneath her.

Neutral Special - Raging Storm - Edelgard readies her stance as Aymr takes on a red glow and the Crest of Seiros appears above her. Upon releasing the button, she swings the axe with full force. If an opponent is hit by this move, they won't take much damage, but will fall into a crumple state in a small explosion. Edelgard can then follow up with a strong Smash Attack, or regain space by leaving the foe there.

Side Special - Hand Axe - A simple projectile and one of Edelgard's faster attacks. Edelgard takes a small throwing axe and tosses it. It will then spin through the air as it flies, before hitting the ground and disappearing. If foes are hit with the blade, they will take much more damage than if hit with the handle. The blade will also do significant shield damage. While the move is fast, it cannot be spammed easily, as only one Hand Axe can be on the screen at a time per Edelgard.

Up Special - Flickering Flower - Edelgard takes from one of her Critical Hit animations and leaps upward with Aymr held high, and then crashes downward at a diagonal. If the crash is completed, the area of impact will be scorched with flames for a few moments. The move has a rising hitbox with Aymr's head, but it can be cancelled before reaching the full height. This, however, loses the hitbox. This attack acts as a mix between Cross Chop and Super Dedede Jump.

Down Special - Fusillade - Edelgard makes an exaggerated wave of her hand and yells "Now!" From the fourth wall, a volley of arrows from an unseen imperial battalion rains down in a column shaped area in front of her, covering the same amount of height as Palutena's up smash. This attack can be used for edge-guarding purposes, as airborne opponent's will be slightly pushed downward for each arrow that hits them. However, if Edelgard is in the air when she uses this move, only one arrow will be launched, reducing the move's effectiveness. This move also has a small cooldown after it's used, so use it wisely.

Final Smash - Raging Flames - Edelgard whacks a nearby foe with Aymr, triggering a cutscene as "Gambit Boost" flashes onto the screen. A cart full of explosives is wheeled toward the knocked down foe. Edelgard is joined by Byleth and Hubert. Edelgard gives the command as Hubert fires a Miasma toward the cart, the latter laughing all the while. The cart explodes on contact with the target as the cutscene ends and the foe is sent flying.
I just love her as a character and think she'd be super fun in Smash.
This may be a late reply, but this moveset sounds amazing. I don't normally have an interest in Axe wielders (except Zenobia from XC2), slow fighters, and Heavywei- *Thunk!* *Axe misses me by an inch* uh... ahem characters with low mobility. But I really like the movset you made for her, nice job. I'd love to play as her if she had a moveset similar to yours.

That being said, even though the fanbase seems to treasure fighters above all else and views them as the series' worth in the context of Smash, I don't think that's how Sakurai sees it. If Sakurai thought that fighters were the only thing that mattered, why would he put in so much effort to develop new items, stages, and assist trophies? Likewise, why would he take so much time to show off various items and stages during the game's pre-release? Fighters may be the meat of Smash Bros., but a meal with only meat is kinda boring. You need sides to add some additional flavour, Smash wouldn't be the massive game it was without things like stages, items, music, or assist trophies.
Stages & Music I'll, because those are essential for any kind of fighting games, but the items play a minor role in Smash Bros and nobody gives a crap about Assist Trophies. It doesn't matter what Sakurai thinks, what's important is how it's received. Sakurai could have all the best intention in the world and think that all these other representation broadens the game, but majority of people don't see it that way. If the fans only care about fighters then that should be the priority; the fans are the reason why Smash Bros has been super successful, because they buy the games. It doesn't matter what Sakurai thinks of the other features and should realize what it is that the fans really like and adjust to that. Remember, Sakurai and his team thought that people were going to love Smash Tour, and that awful. Focusing on this that people don't really care about just takes away time and development for this content that people really cares for.

Heck, if they didn't waste time on making 59 Assist Trophies Piranha Plant could've released in the base roster instead of being moved to DLC, then there would've been more time to make all the other Fighters Pass character and great chance that all the Fighters Pass could've potentially release all in 2019 instead of February 2020. Honestly there would've been nothing of value lost if they didn't make Assist Trophy. Most people wouldn't have been disappointing to learn about their character being out of the running completely because of Assist Trophies.

We've had threads for people posting assist trophy ideas because there are characters they want to see as assist trophies, either because they don't think they'll make it as playable or work as a playable character. That or they just like the idea of assist characters.

Plus there are players that genuinely get a kick out of having them appear and cause havoc. Just because you don't perceive value in them, doesn't mean there is no value to find.

The dirty secret about Fire Emblem getting the Guidance was there weren't really any other candidates. To have a cameo in a Guidance or Codec, you have to be from a series where the characters frequently speak in fully voiced sentences in an intelligible language. It would be strange to have the fully voiced Kid Icarus cast interacting with the Godzilla-grunting Bowser. There's only three series that meet this criteria: Kid Icarus, Star Fox, and Fire Emblem. Kid Icarus doesn't work for obvious reasons, while Star Fox had a cameo in Brawl and it wouldn't make much thematic sense for the Sci-fi characters of Star Fox to be talking to the Greek Mythology-based Kid Icarus cast. As such, it was really either a Fire Emblem cameo or nothing.
A ton of the cast speaks dialogue and are we really concerned about how realistic something is in Smash Bros?

Similar thing for victory quotes. Star Fox, Kid Icarus, and Fire Emblem are the only series that have their characters speak in fully voiced sentences in a real language, so they're the ones that get unique victory quotes. It's not that special to have Link or Donkey Kong grunt in a slightly different way when facing another character from their series.
You don't think it would make sense for Sonic to say something to Mario? Ganon to say something to Link? Samus to say something to Ridley or Dark Samus? Speaking characters isn't something unique to those game.

Honestly, Fire Emblem having two unique victory themes makes sense given the context. Characters mostly get unique victory themes when the standard series doesn't really fit them. Villains, for example, have a unique theme because it's kinda weird to have Bowser, Ridley, or K. Rool celebrating to their enemy's theme. This generally applies to Corrin, seeing how Lost in Thoughts All Alone effectively replaces the standard Fire Emblem theme throughout Fates. It's a little different for the Awakening gang, but that more likely has to do with there being a large number of reps from that particular game. If we lived in a world where Lucina stayed a Marth costume, echoes never became a thing, and Robin was our only Awakening character, he'd probably just use the standard Fire Emblem theme for his victory.
So where's Ganons unique victory theme?

Besides, I don't think Sakurai really cares about victories too much, seeing how Chrom initially had the standard theme and no one caught this until fans starting noticing on the internet. Also, I never said that Sakurai was forced to add Corrin in, but Corrin was in the right place at the right time to fill a DLC quota. I'm sure Sakurai likes Corrin, but I don't know if he would've joined the battle if the very specific set of criteria that got him in wasn't in place.
That criteria being "be a fire emblem character" Seeing 5 games in and we've still yet to see a non FE nintendo character be used to promote a game.

Because that's part of the game? Just because something is in a game doesn't mean it's the most important part of it.

Likewise, why would he take so much time to show off various items and stages during the game's pre-release?
Why are they shown in a compilation trailer when every single newcomer is shown off individually in their own trailer?

You need sides to add some additional flavour, Smash wouldn't be the massive game it was without things like stages, items, music, or assist trophies.
The characters are the only part of the game that's completely relevant no matter how you play Smash or what mode you're using. I don't see how you can have 7 characters and think "I'd rather my favorite series have more characters where you summon them completely randomly sometimes and just watch them do something instead of playing as them"

Even then, in Ultimate how can you argue FE has it bad in this department? You got two new assist trophies, the third most amount of spirits, more remixes than any other Nintendo IP, and an item. And nobody even really noticed, especially compared to Chrom, a new character.

Why are they shown in a compilation trailer when every single newcomer is shown off individually in their own trailer?

The characters are the only part of the game that's completely relevant no matter how you play Smash or what mode you're using. I don't see how you can have 7 characters and think "I'd rather my favorite series have more characters where you summon them completely randomly sometimes and just watch them do something instead of playing as them"

Even then, in Ultimate how can you argue FE has it bad in this department? You got two new assist trophies, the third most amount of spirits, more remixes than any other Nintendo IP, and an item. And nobody even really noticed, especially compared to Chrom, a new character.
Mate, you've been going in circles for 12 hours now. Please do literally anything else.

I mean personally I popped off seeing Tiki as an Assist. She's one of my favorite Fire Emblem characters so I was happy she was included in a pretty substantial way.

There will always be someone out there who likes a thing that majority of people don't like. Guess nobody allow to say anything that has negative connotation towards a thing since someone likes it.

I don't think there's a fanbase that wouldn't almost unanimously take the deal of "your series gets more characters than anyone expects, but it doesn't get that many items or assist trophies"

You can't even substantiate your claim that the "majority" dislikes Assist Trophies, let alone that they would want them removed, and you're not just saying "I dislike Assist Trophies," you're actively calling for their removal because of how much you dislike them and demanding Sakurai rearrange his priorities to fit your personal interpretation of Smash. Not to mention, despite claiming a majority dislike them, every single time you come in here or the Geno thread or wherever with this stuff, your idea gets smacked down by people who like the Assist Trophies and want to defend them, so not even the anecdotal evidence on SmashBoards supports your claim to begin with.

Wynn, we're not calling you out because you said something negative. People are allowed to say negative thoughts about Smash and you can have a negative opinion of something that someone else likes, but that's the end of it. Actively calling for action that involves removing something people like goes beyond just being "a little bit negative" or something that has "a negative connotation."

Assist Trophies and Pokémon both need individual toggles imo. It’s be easier to appreciate them if I could set up the wants I wanted to show up.

also man they’re really just dumping FP5 on us, no buildup. if they’re not the relative low point of the Pass I’ll be really surprised

If I could toggle individual Pokémon and Assist Trophies, I would immediately have Richter vs. Richter mirror matches where we each keep summoning Alucard. Or a Fire Emblem match where Marth fights Ike and the only Assist Trophies are Tiki and Black Knight. Or Snake and Cloud each summoning Rathalos since both Metal Gear and Final Fantasy have had Rathalos fights in them.

I understand the chaotic appeal of randomized Assist Trophies and Pokémon but aside from having a separate Master Ball item, we don't really get much control over it. It would be nice if we did.

I feel like the recent DLC fills this list quiet nicely already.

PSA: As if a Direct next week wasn’t likely enough, you can now pre purchase FP5 on the eshop.

Looks like Amiibo theory might be right on the money again, this certainly suggests a shadow drop along with the potential announcement.
Looks like my pessimism really was unfounded. Cool beans.

Now I can focus on being pessimistic about FP5 bein' crummy (for me personally) instead.

Hasn't being able to purchase fighter packs before their launch always been a thing since Ultimate's release?

Not trying to quench the chances of a Direct this month, I think one might happen.

Wait, was that a thing for previous Packs? I don't remember?

Only prediction I'll make is that FP5 is probably gonna be another Corrin-level controversial character. Dunno why I feel this way, but I do, and I expect a lot of angry yelling about it.

I'm more interested in post-pass and how that's working. I just want FP5 tossed out ASAP at this point 'cause I'm pretty dang positive it ain't gonna be someone I'll care about, lol. Then again, I have doubts about post-pass as well. Third-parties are probably gonna be the sole focus with cool choices like Byleth, the Astral twins, or a Gen 8 Pokemon being passed up. And before you post the obligatory "Those characters aren't hype, only big 3rd parties are hype. Sakurai needs to focus on only huge cross-overs and never evers!", I'm just gonna get it outta the way now and say that most of those "Never-evers" people want are snooze picks for me, whereas the "boring" first-parties are my dream picks, so yeah, lol.

'Course this is just my own personal opinion. Anyone's free to want who they want, I've always known that most of what I want would get a big 'ol frown from folks here who 90% want third parties. :p

To be fair, Nintendo is probably stacking up hype for Season 2 anyway, so they'll probably want to end it on a low note and open with a high note.

Welp, now that FP5 can be preperchased, I can already tell there are gonna be leak posts pretty soon. My only problem is that I won't be able to get my manga fix because mangadex is going down for maintenance and won't be back for a few days
