Couple more Verge disconfirms: Including Morrigan
Weird things to deconfirm. The former candidates never showed up in speculation before, so I wonder who would ask for them specifically. Morrigan on the other hand, while a constant in Capcom crossovers, didn't have too strong of a chance in Smash either.

Interesting how everyone's now laser-focused on KOS-MOS. Perhaps insiders deconfirming waves of characters was a bad idea after all, when all it leaves us are characters they refuse to deconfirm for certain.

Its not even worth paying attention to at this point.

Anyone who can shoot down that many characters obviously knows who it is. So then why not just say it?
Verge has a source that knows. And all they are giving them is who it's not. What you should be more concerned with is that he literally didn't update anything on KOS-MOS.

Interesting. But unrelated to FP5, eh?

Man, then your lovely feminist finally gets released and cau-nah jk. Keep up the peace. It's really refreshing, yet somehow, I'm just paranoid of FP5's gender...
Wait why are you paranoid over the gender of the potential character?
Please don't start this female character nonsense again.
You already locked up the Geno thread shortly after TGA.
DON'T LOCK UP THIS THREAD TOO!

Reiji and Xiaomu are such odd characters to deconfirm. I'm not sure if we'll even see them again in anything after PXZ2

Chill. I'm just expressing potential disappointment or pleasure. That is all.

And this isn't nonsense. It's a logical problem.

Wait, why was this thread locked up during TGA? I was wondering about that.
Maybe there was a TGA thread and to prevent people from being off topic, this thread was locked? I wasn't here either, but that's my best guess.

I guess the Night will gets its chance another day.
It can't. It only comes out at night.

I think it locks up every time a character might be revealed so it's not flooded with play by plays until the reveal does or does not happen.

Fair point. That is pretty suspicious.

Maybe I was being a bit hyperbolic with my post, but that whole ordeal still is just really looking like a safety net created to me.

If his source truly knew FP5, there shouldn’t be a “maybe” or “I don’t know” to anyone suggested. Either you know that they are in, or you don’t.

A quick google search tells me they're Namco characters.
They are the main protagonists of the Monolith soft developed crossover RPG series Project x zone which crosses over Namco, Capcom, Sega and Nintendo characters in one big multiverse adventure.

I want them in smash for that alone.

I mean, he has all the time in the bloody world to deconfirm KOS-MOS if he wanted to. His soirce literally knows the character and all he gives is an "I'm not sure" vibe. That is what's fishy to me.

ngl, after seeing most of Capcom's characters, Sora, and Geralt on Vergeburger's kill list and KOS-MOS' status being up in the air, this is a pretty lackluster follow up. Raiji and Xiaomu are as random of deconfirmations as Kat from Gravity Rush (no offense KatKit), and I never thought Morrigan really had that big of a shot anyways.

So an interesting question just popped into my mind and I'm curious to here what you guys think. What first party Nintendo series that does not yet have a character do you think is most likely to receive one? There clearly isn't a clear option here and it seems very unlikely that we're going to get any new first party Nintendo series in the DLC but that's what makes the question interesting imo.

Many people would have said ARMS in the lead up to Ultimate but I think most of can agree that the ARMS momentum has greatly slowed since then. The game wasn't a failure by any stretch but it wasn't really a huge success either and a sequel is just one of those things that may or may not happen. Though honestly it might still be the frontrunner because of an extreme lack of options. I'd personally order it this way:

1. ARMS (by a thread over Golden Sun)
2. Golden Sun
3. Dillon's Rolling Western
4. The Wonderful 101
5. Advance Wars
6. Sin and Punishment
7. Panel de Pon (is this even a Nintendo series?)

And I ran out of ideas right there which goes to show how limited the options are. I did consider Takamaru and other retro characters but retros are just too wildcard for me to try and rank anywhere.
I'll give a little perspective twist to your interesting scenario.

I have a feeling that if Sakurai had not focused on 3rd parties in Ultimate, all of those series would have gotten a playable character for sure.
And I say this as someone who loves both, 3rd parties, and obscurer Nintendo series.

But back to your scenario.

1+2+3) ARMS, Murasame's Mysterious Castle, and Sin & Punishment would be front-runners IMO.
ARMS for the unique stretchy gimmick. Murasame because Nintendo's been eager to revive it in the Wii U era (surprised it hasn't yet reached NSO NES tbh), and Sin & Punishment because... I'm giving him this one because Sakurai is a fan, and he could implement a unique crosshair gimmick to Saki.

4+5+6) Another black box retro fighter, Rythm Heaven, Golden Sun
Balloon Fighter or Mach Rider or Urban Champion... Sakurai likes these oddball picks, and I have a feeling he would love to include at least one more. He has at least expressed interest in MR.
Rythm Heaven is pretty big, with surprisingly no tangible content in Smash. At this point it's like the elephant in the room.
Golden Sun, because at this point it's impossible to try to look away from the obvious clamoring for this series to step up its representation. The bigger hurdle here would be Sakurai getting sword-character fatigue. But Golden Sun characters lend themselves to more versatile movesets WAY beyond a sword. And Sakurai probably knows this. Sadly, other active series trump Golden Sun's relevance in Smash which is probably why it's low priority.

Ideally I would love for these, and more series like Panel de Pon, Style Savvy, Advance Wars, and even Pilotwings to get a character in the game. But for now, I think these 6 are the ones I think could come next.

I think the TCs username should make it obvious who he was likely referring to.

(And maybe Steve as well.)
I saw it
that seems scary. as well for base spirits But there isn’t any reason to call him a liar but he did say that this isn’t concrete so we’ll see

also verge said that Minecraft content is still a thing so it may have to do with only Steve I think

Guys imagine.

Master Chief as FP5 and then...KOS-MOS as an Mii costume.
That would be the symbol of all my hopes and dreams of female representation in Smash vanquished forever.

Why is this industry too harsh to us women? What have we done wrong to deserve all this? We just want to be a part of this pass for fighters; what's wrong with that?

Next time you hype, imagine the people you trample along the way.

I mean, there is also one possibility on why they aren’t sure if she is FP5 or not.

Because the source may not even know who FP5 is, thus making all of the deconfirmations potentially meaningless. Would explain why it contradicts “no Namco” from earlier.

I think it's more that most interesting female game characters are usually relegated to supporting roles and there aren't many who are actual protagonists and Smash always goes for protagonists.

Safe to say, that's what gave me the doubt of trusting Verge ever again. I mean, back in the Female DLC thread, supporter once told me of various reasons as to why not to trust Verge.

Newsflash: people can want characters in Smash without caring about them getting over the characters you want in Smash.

Nobody's trampling you by having their own hopes for what happens in a videogame.

I should clarify, Verge's source has a source that knows. Verge is going through a middle man. We do not know what response the middle man received, but the implication is Verge asked the middle man which the middle man asked and probably got ignored by their source (just like Sabi's source has ignored KOS-MOS). This is likely what prompted the "not sure", the lack of an actual answer.

For clarity, the latter part of the above is mere interpretation and not a straight up fact.

To clear things up concerning confusion about Verge and his sources:

He is playing telephone essentially. He has a source that has a source, I will refer to his source as "1" and his source's source as "2". Verge asks 1 for information regarding Smash, and 1 talks to 2 and then relays it back to Verge. Now 1 does NOT know who FP5 is, which is why it isn't contradictory that they don't know whether it is KOS-MOS. 2 DOES know who FP5 is but has not shared that information. As for why 1 said no Namco but not no KOS-MOS? I don't know. It's likely just a case where they want to specifically ask 2 about it. Verge has said that 1 has said "not sure" many times over the weeks of disconfirmations and then goes to ask 2 about that specific character after.

Believe Verge or not (I'm not entirely trusting him), but I thought everyone should know the situation.
