My only real question for "Geralt for Smash," is if Geralt can get in, does that mean Batman from the Arkham series can get in? Both are incredibly successful video game series based off of and inspired by non-video game media.

But Batman is Batman. Would he even have a chance?

I think the main difference is that Batman is more known for his comic iterations than his video game iterations, while Geralt is the other way around. @Chucklehead Tom put it best, Geralt would be the exception to the rule and not it's breaker.

You know, I would not be surprised if that leakbait theory turns out to be true at this point.

Because if FP5 is any of the deconfirmed characters, then the leakers' credibility takes a huge hit - especially Verge after this Thanos snap.

This way the identity of the character is kept secret and the leaker's reputation is tarnished.

Its not based on the “inter-kun”, its based what Sakurai has said numerous times himself.

Thats the only reason why people on this forum never take Goku or any 4th party seriously.

Guys, I’m so excited to fight Dracula from the famous 1897 novel Dracula, written by Bram Stoker. He was easily my most wanted, so I’m glad Sakurai decided to look outside the last 120 years to include a character that didn’t start as a video game character in some way. As an English teacher, I am Stoked (heh).

I mean, Dracula is just that iconic. Kids dress as him every year, and there have been countless (heh) movies made of the guy. Like, who would look at Dracula and say, “Literally who?” The dude is the king of the night, can be super unique with blood sucking abilities, and can transform into a bat. Kinda like Alucard...

Assuming that Vergeben deconfirmation is right, I think the most likely character at this point would be an indie rep. Honestly I don't see Sony having chance and Geralt I'm unsure, but indie games is something many Smash fans wanted since Smash 4 and maybe he could add the Knight from Hollow knight or something.

The argument made was that non-video game content wouldn’t be added to Smash, and therefore Geralt couldn’t be added.

Dracula, which obviously doesn’t originate from video games, is in Smash despite being originally from a novel.

Regardless of being public domain, Dracula himself didn’t originate from a video game. The Dracula in Smash is based on an interpretation by Konami, just as Geralt has been interpreted by CD Projekt Red.

I just don’t think it’s an argument that holds up. That’s just me though.

Tbh I’m pretty sure Sakurai decides not to add “4th Party Characters” not because it would taint smash and no longer make it a video game crossover (that’s how the fans view it) but because it is a lot harder to gain access to fourth party characters because the licensing is a lot more complex than just a regular vg company. I’m pretty sure Sakurai confirmed it himself that he doesn’t add them because of licensing though I may be wrong so don’t quote me on that. Bottom line is even if the fans don’t view it as Geralt from the book the licensing will most likely view it as Geralt from the book AND the game if they were to use the video game iteration

Actually, licensing also views Geralt as a game character: because of the deal they made, CD Projekt Red outright owns the rights to The Witcher in videogames. So licensing only requires dealing with the devs, and therefore can only take from the videogames.

The funniest part to me will be if Fighter 5 was one theorized for months and was allegedly deconfirmed. I'm placing my bet that this will be the case. Any previously 'deconfirmed' candidate will be FP5.

Only other option is people were aiming sights too high on overly likely candidates and Sakurai was fishing from the ocean of possibilities and not the small lake of shortsightedness the community has been fishing from.

To be honest, I have no idea at this point.

I initially 100% believed it, but after seeing Jons tweets, and that theory I shared earlier (which actually made a really good point), I can’t make a conclusion at this point.

Guess we will have to wait until the VGAs

Unless Verge's source is bad, like with thr Minecraft source, or is just lying to him, it's most definitely accurate.
