Who knows? I remember there was a DMC5 leak last year which was pretty spot on in pretty much each aspect of the game which said Dante was coming to Smash during the base roster speculation, which was pretty much the only fake part of it.
Wasn't it like last week that Sabi was strongly indicating (but of course not actually confirming) that s/he knew who character five was?
Could have sworn she said her source knew but didn't tell Sabi as it risked exposing them, or some **** like that.

On the other hand, I dislike how the lesser known/less relevant Nintendo characters now have lost their chance to shine in favor of third parties. There is still plenty of cool Nintendo characters who can be unique and fun, yet they can't be in because a secondary obscure character from a minor Nintendo franchise is not as influent as the protagonist of a big third party franchise.
It's most likely Nintendo's direction on their part. But there will come a time when they'll go back to adding new first-parties.
I get what you mean but I feel Nintendo themselves don't care. Not "They don't care about how those third parties are getting talked about more" but "Nintendo doesn't care about their more obscure **** considering how godawful they are with letting their older, obscure games be played legally"
It still feels odd but pleasing that we went from people thinking Ridley, King K. Rool, Simon Belmont, and Banjo-Kazooie are impossible to now serious discussion on characters like Gordon Freeman, Reimu, Kazuma Kiryu, and 2B.
On the other hand I miss when people thought Geno had a chance during base game and the discussions about first parties otherwise yeah totally the evolution of Smash Speculation has been an interesting one. Alright but why the **** was that seriously suggested as a Smash possibility.
If Konami is even involved with Smash 6 as I'm sure there will be a lot of cuts to the roster and a lot of those would be third party characters. If they are then hell yeah Bomberman gets a chance again.

Yet Geno, a side character of the one 20 year old Mario spin-off, is apparently fine to outright expect because he's actually another company's character, even over say, a "rhythmic" Nintendo franchise with multiple popular games to its name (that were actually initially released in Europe), but not a character from that franchise tho.
