Hayabusa would be the second fighter in Smash who canonically met the AVGN, lol.

At this point idgaf who makes it in, I just want them to tell us. I hope fighter pass 2 has less of this waiting game garbage. We get who we get and they deserve that sh*t for some reason or another, and if you don't know why then Super Smash will teach you.

Yeah, I see EoSD there now. Somehow saw Higurashi and yet still overlooked it.
That was the one I was most expecting to see listed.

And I'd legitimately enjoy seeing Tokimeki Memorial get a rep as the next Konami addition.

Since it's currently Lara Croft's day on the RTC I wanted to bring her up in here and ask what everyone thinks about her, because I think she's criminally underlooked when it comes to a third potential Square Enix rep.

I get you, but picking Thrall is playing favoritism to one side. Thrall might be popular to Horde players, but that may not be the case for Alliance players. At least with Arthas he's popular to the majority of Warcraft players.
Thrall's a lot more in the middle of the divide than other Horde characters, but even so, the Horde is the undeniably more interesting accomplishment of Warcraft's two core. In terms of likelihood, Smash is more wont to make a choice between two strong sides than to try pick a compromise, and I don't think Arthas would somehow slip in just because Nintendo wanted to compromise. No one else in the roster snuck in via compromise, after all.

I'm not convinced that Lara Croft has a potential moveset for Super Smash Bros.

I think she'd be fine as an inclusion, but I don't think she brings a lot of interesting moveset potential to the table as compared to the previous DLC characters.

I dunno, I'm still unconvinced that Thrall is likelier than Arthas. Arthas in general is more popular than Thrall in both the Warcraft fanbase and the general gaming community. Smash has always picked characters that are deemed as the most recognizable of the cast, it's why Pikachu got in before Pokemon Trainer or any of the starters in 64. I'll admit Thrall is a strong candidate, but I still believe Arthas has the edge over him.

I doubt that we'd get Thrall, for the reason observed earlier: it's better to pick somebody who's faction-neutral. I never really liked the Horde, and I'm sure many others feel similarly.

we have a plant on the roster
Pirahna Plant is unironically a lot more unique than most of the cast. Weirder characters often lend themselves to more interesting movesets because there's more creative freedom. For example, Tracer's problem is that her moveset is almost entirely prescribed already based on her current game, and doesn't translate super well.

I will die on this hill until I can’t breath:

The Baby Metroid from Super Metroid would be a very fun and creative fighter if done right.

Apparently the Smash Bros YouTube channel just updated with another video. Can someone please verify so we can see if we can turn our hype-cycles back on?

She doesn't much interest me moveset-, design-, or character-wise. I do find it amusing that triangle boobs is now considered a female empowerment character.

We already discussed this. It's legit, and if the last time that happened is anything to go by (which was Terry's extended reveal trailer), we could get something around Wednesday or Thursday next week at earliest.

Lara would be a perfectly reasonable pick (though she's slightly lower on the legacy list for me), and I wouldn't be surprised to see her, but SE has a number of other characters I'd personally prefer over her.

Moveset-wise, she doesn't have anything particularly fantastical, but if you pull from both the older and newer iterations of the series, there's enough to be engaging.

So we can expect Lara Croft to be wielding a futuristic rifle, throwing bob-ombs from her pockets, transform into a tyrannosaurus rex, stick her tongue out like a Yoshi, inhale her enemies and make it la-hey-hey-hey-ter... for when she is able to copy abilities?

I can't agree that a faction-neutral candidate would ever be a better choice than someone deep in the conflict. Again, they'd be ignoring Warcraft's core strength in that scenario, and if they did that, then they lose any reason to pick Warcraft at all. May as well pick a fantasy game series with better-written characters.

Prefer whatever you'd like, but the Alliance has always been playing catch-up to the Horde in terms of being the more interesting faction (and I say that as someone who liked playing Humans the most in WC3).

I really like the fact that there's no common consensus on who F5 could be, and I hope it stays that way up until their reveal.

I am a former WoW player, in the Alliance. I love Thrall for what he is and represent, what he did, his whole story, the key between a reconciliation of factions.
On the contrary, I find Arthas pretty boring as a character.

And like I said previously, Thrall, by being a shaman, could bring more than Arthas in Smash, IMO.

I may not be the majority, but without a big poll, we won't be able to determine a truth about that.

Clearly, the only true solution is to pick a third option and to go for a pandaren (brewmaster).

Yeah I saw the other 2, but I chose to talk about one, I thought you meant that all 3 of them need to apply to get a character in smash dlc, which is false

Nope never said that, I said it needs to be one of those things.

All this "literal who" argument makes my head hurt when it just gets brought up over and over again even though that didn't stop the previous characters didn't it? It won't stop anyone beyond the pass either, Sakurai will put anyone in he likes even if it's from a game unknown to a certain group of people, or just outright came from a respective popular franchise, and whoever would that be will inevitably bring both thankful and butthurted fans.

Honestly not surprised anymore when everyone tends to underestimate touhou as if it's just what undertale was to the west before it was localized to japan.

Touhou is obscure to the west? I can understand that, nobody really speaks vocally about the franchise outside of their cult circle anyways.

But touhou being niche IN japan? If the series being the literal face of the japanese indie scene, and having 2 annual conventions (1 of which entirely focuses on touhou as a whole, the other being part as one of the major franchises in the event) isn't considered "big enough" in Japan then I don't know what is.

Guy if you’re gonna take the time to write a big long wall make sure it’s not irrelevant and already addressed.

We made this simple as possible but I guess Ill say it again.

There are 3 options why a character gets in and only one reason is popularity. The other reason is that the character/franchise/creator is very dear to sakurai. All the “literal who” characters are generally in this basket. That doesn’t mean any character in the world is coming. I asked simply if everyone is making big leaps and hopes for Reimu or if sakurai has ever wrote about her. No one has provided any evidence that he wrote about her. Thus if he is into Touhou he has never spoken about it. Okay then you are making big fabricated leaps to pretend she has a good chance.

Nothing has been that surprising if you just read sakurais writings over the years. KOF/FF is a game sakurai loved deeply and inspired him to make smash. Persona 5 was a game sakurai wrote that he couldn’t put down and wrote about much he loved everything about it. DQ is the same, and so forth.

Sakurai obviously chose this dlc.

Lastly everything you said about touhou is irrelevant. Facts are facts. There are conventions for furrys it doesn’t mean that furrys aren’t niche.

The biggest Doujin convention in japan generally gets 500,000 people. And that is a convention that’s hosts all Doujin not just touhou. Those numbers are legitimately nothing. Most decent end indie games like hollow knight individually sell over a million copies. And those that follow those games are STILL niche.

Stop making touhou out to be more than it is. Stop being deceptive to people.

Are people legitimately surprised about Terry?
How lol.

Sakurai's told that story of him playing KOF in the arcades multiple times where he was inspired heavily by it to develop what became Smash.

I never thought that the no moveset potential "argument" would be used against Lara Croft, of all characters, but here we are.

Your own lack of imagination does not count as an argument against an inclusion.

I don't think that she doesn't have moveset potential. She obviously has plenty. For me personally, however, I don't find her moveset possibilities that compelling as compared to the DLC characters we've gotten so far, all of whom have been very unique. That's an inherently subjective take, of course.

I think if Lara Croft were to be developed, everyone would be pleasantly surprise with the sort of things she'd be capable of. Very acrobatic in games, specialises in multiple weapons and you can even bring in paranormal aspects from her games to her movelist. And those apply to both the original games and the reboot.

Thing is for me personally, is that I prefer other Sq. characters.

The no moveset arguement is dumb. Duck Hunt and Wii Fit Trainer are in the game. Sakurai can come up with a moveset for 99% of the video game characters that exist and Lara is not the 1 percent by any means

In a shock twist, Geno is the 1%. Sakurai confirms he'll never be in the game and activity in the Newcomer Speculation section of Smashboards.com drops by 70% overnight.

Other than the fact that we know that Ryu Hayabusa, Crash, Tracer, Geno, Doomguy, and Scorpion aren't going to be fighter #5, it's all up in the air at the moment until we get some sort of hint on who it may be down the road.

Before the SNK leak narrowed everything down, there also wasn't really a common consensus on who #4 could be other than IamShifty's claim about Hayabusa being #4 (ended up being false) and that one 4chan post about #4 being a female character (some people tried to narrow it down after the SNK leak and thought either Nakoruru, Mai Shiranui, or a Metal Slug rep would be the SNK rep but this was debunked after Terry's reveal).

Sure, he could come up with a moveset, but would that moveset avoid being derivative of other characters? Though people use Piranha Plant, Wii Fit Trainer, and Mr. Game and Watch as evidence to demonstrate that anyone can have a moveset, it’s important to realize that those characters were essentially blank slates that allowed them to expand beyond their roots to become quite possibly the most unique characters in the series. Sure, one could easily make a moveset for Lara Croft, but would that moveset be both true to Tomb Raider while also bringing new moves to the table that Bayonetta, Link, or Zero Suit Samus don’t already have?

Anything interesting happen here recently regarding FP5, Jon? The curse of Monday has once again passed as it always does, and from its darkness perhaps some light of the future has crept in.

Yes, considering how different Terry is from Ryu/Ken and still very loyal to Fatal Fury.

From the producers who brought you "Erdrick would be a Marth clone" somehow comes "Lara Croft would just be Bayonetta".

Honestly, the thing with Lara is that I really don't see her being next in line for a Square Enix rep. Maybe things will change in the future, but as of now, I don't see her being picked before 2B and especially not before Sora.

If Square gets like 2 more characters until the end of Ultimate's DLC... who knows? But for now I can't see her happening.

Wait HOLD UP is someone dissing Lara Croft by saying she has no moveset potential? As well as saying she'd be like Bayo of all people? Looks like someone hasn't seen or ever played a TR game like, ever.

All the posts criticizing Lara's moveset potential inspired me to make this moveset. It's not the best I can do for her, but I wanted to show that Lara has a ton of material to pull from from her games. I decided to make Lara a trap based character with a ton of versatility and projectiles that make her a deadly fighter. If the character is executed well with a fun moveset then would it matter what their weapon of choice is?

For those who think Lara would be boring I hope this might have changed your mind and showed you that Lara has a lot to bring to the table.

NEUTRAL SPECIAL: DUAL PISTOLS

Lara wields dual pistols as her neutral special. Before you shout Joker at my face, hear me out. Joker's gun has him fire a shot and then he either keeps shooting if you hold the button or he awkwardly moves from his place or he jumps. For Lara I suggest she can move freely with her dual pistols, kinda like Mega Man's pellets. Unlike Joker the rate of fire and range will be much higher. The bullets would cover a longer distance than Joker, with the knockback kicking in half way through. Think of the move as a combination of Mega Man's pellets and Joker's gun.

SIDE SPECIAL: BOW

The side special would be her firing an arrow from her bow. And before you shout Link at my face, I have an idea to make the move different. If you hold down the shield button and then press B you would open a menu of different arrows that you can pick and use. The default arrow is the silent arrow, it deals normal damage and has an unlimited number of uses. There are the poison arrows, which if hit would deal 13% of damage over time and the number of arrows is 10. There are the fire arrows, which have a similair usage to Young Link's arrows in that they send the opponent upwards to set up for combos, the number of arrows is 15. Lara also has the grenade arrows, which deals the highest knockback compared to all the arrows and can be used as kill options, the number of arrows is 5. And finally there are the Armor Piercing arrows, these arrows pass through opponents and projectiles, which means they can hit multiple opponents. These arrows can also pierce the opponent while they're shielding, making them great poking tools. The number of arrows is 10.

UP SPECIAL: GRAPPLE AXE

The up special would be Lara swinging her Grapple Axe upwards. It's a tether recovery that is similair in use to Joker's hook. One difference however is that if it hits an opponent, instead of bringing them towards her like Joker, Lara would swing using the rope in an arc until she's almost behind the opponent in which then she'll kick them flying in the opposite direction above her.

DOWN SPECIAL: PROXIMITY POISON GAS MINE

Her down special would be her planting a proximity poison gas mine. It's similair to Snake's C4 except instead of a regular explosion it deals poison damage to the opponent instead. If an opponent comes close to the mine then it will automatically detonate and trigger a poisonous gas. The mine can also be remotely detonated to trigger the gas. If triggered, the move deals 16% over time quickly. The purpose of the move is to be an area of denial move that limits the opponents movement. Combine the gas mine with her poison arrows and you will find Lara dealing tons of damage over time.

You seem a little parched!

It's such a shame that Dota 2's the only game outside of Blizzard who continue the "loads of voicelines on click" tradition. AFAIK of course.

We already discussed this. It's legit, and if the last time that happened is anything to go by (which was Terry's extended reveal trailer), we could get something around Wednesday or Thursday next week at earliest.
Could be for a Nintendo Direct (most likely), or that Chinese presentation (wildcard, we have no idea when it's gonna be held too). If it's the latter, hoo boy that's Nintendo throwing people for a loop. FTR, I've recently seen a claim that grey market Switches have seen major rise in price, from $78 to $99.

Something else I found: Apparently the Switch is doing well in South Korea. The claimed number sold is 600K (incl. grey market) - not bad for a country who's grouped into the "Other" category (4 million), and apparently faster than the PS4 there. That gives more weight to the Blizzard talk IMO since Nintendo's giving the DLC list to Sakurai, and then letting Sakurai choose from that list (IIRC). Ring Fit Adventure is the point of interest, with that game getting Korean ads.
