as far as FE women go, I'd rather have Lyn than Marth.
as far a Marth goes, they can take it out for all I care. it's overrated/overpowered.
Roy>Marth because men>its
Though I might not have said it on this thread yet (I don't think so anyway), Marth is far too important to the franchise to be left out if they keep other FE, it would be akin to leaving out Mario and keeping Peach. He might not have been in any of the current games, but he's the foundational Lord and a cultural Icon in Japan.
Not that he couldn't still be left out by some insane stretch of the imagination, just like Mario could still have been removed from Smash in this game, it's not quite THAT unlikely, but quite similar. As soon as Ike was confirmed, it's almost a guarantee that Marth is in.
Though, obviously not Roy, and quite frankly, I think he has no chance (Roy I mean).
Yea, my hopes weren't really all that crushed. I mean Lyn would have been a nice addition, but there is more potential in Hector and Ephraim because they wield weapons other than the now overrated sword.
Agreed, BUT with caveats.
The reason that swords are used so often in video games is because they are so versatile in terms of their basic design and can therefore accomplish a lot of different combat roles, on one extreme, a dagger, built for street-fighting and other forms of unexpected combat (either for you or the opponent) and almost exclusively for unarmored opponents. On the absolute other end is the longsword, a very obvious, slow weapon that's built to batter the opponent to death inside their armor. Then there's everything in between, flamberges, built for the purpose of breaking spear lines for calvary, rapiers for precise strikes at long range, tantos for the compromise between highly mobile foot combat and ability to deliver good slashing damage, there are endless examples of unique sword designs. Axes, spears, and maces aren't nearly as versatile.
Swords aren't overrated, they've just been using characters with rather generic swords (they could've used ANY sword for Roy but the Sword of Seals and given him a different fighting style from Marth, namely rapier-esque, GAH, why didn't they? And why didn't the FE6 team make the Sword of Seals rapier-esque anyway, WHY DOES EVERY LEGENDARY SWORD HAVE TO BE A BROADSWORD?!).
So yeah, just poor choice of characters with the weapon.
