Fanbases for Mario characters have thus far been very small. I expect that trend to continue. The same goes with Zelda characters.
This means...what?
That's probably because Waluigi is a much better "fit" as an Assist Trophy. Quite frankly, he is a perfect example of what an Assist Trophy could be. If Bowser Jr. had a non-playable role, it would be best suited as a boss.
Andross is better suited as a boss. He was an Assist. The reason I think Bowser Jr. wasn't a boss is Sakurai made Ridley into 2 bosses to make up for him not being playable.
I'm sorry, but that is just....stupid, no offense. Ridley being a boss twice wouldn't have anything to do with Jr. In fact, it would make more sense for Jr. to be PLAYABLE at that point while helping out Papa carry out his mission.
Ridley being a boss twice is more likely to give Metroid it's due because he initially felt there were no options for a 2nd Metroid character (which is where Zamus came into the picture). Remember that at first, he said Ridley being playable would have been impossible.
Also, a lot of people were opposed to Bowser Jr. back then because of the Paintbrush. To be quite frank though, I don't think Bowser Jr. is all that likely. Toad doesn't have the best chances, either. I would actually bet against Bowser Jr., Toad, and Waluigi's chances. Right now I'm sticking with my "gut feeling" on Paper Mario...
While I respect your opinion, it'd be better not to say that Toad, Jr., and Waluigi have no chances as if it were fact. Making claims like that will get you in trouble, as it's done me in the past.
No, it goes to show he knows Waluigi's role... as a helper.
Guess he certainly knows Mac's, Isaac's, Saki's, and Starfy's places as well. Bowser Jr. is better suited as a boss.
How, exactly? Whatever Jr. has done outside the Paintbrush is just a weaker form of Bowser Sr., who's playable. Also bear in mind that all the bosses have size going for them, with Meta Ridley being the smallest. Jr., even in his Klown Kar, is tiny compared to them. Assist would be fine. Another example of this is Ridley. Ridley was originally suppose to be an Assist Trophy, but he is a much better boss.
Andross being an Assist dispels this argument. He'd have made a much better boss, even if he'd be like the Hands. For non-playable characters, it is about finding fitting a role for them. Waluigi = Assist Trophy character. Ridley/Bowser Jr. = Boss.
Then people should not expect any ATs to become playable. They have clearly found their places. Or Ridley. Or Toad. Or Palutena. Or any SF character.
Using phrases like "as narrow minded as the fans" can be interpreted as you directing that statement at us. I would be more careful in my word choice. I know you aren't directing that at me, but that can get you in trouble. I know because I used to do that a lot, and that got me some undeserved heat/flame attacks pre-Brawl!
I'll try to keep that in mind.
