Yeah, I think its just because I stumbled on Japanese GameFAQs that Waluigi had so much support. Elsewhere, I have not seen this happen (he only gets a few requests elsewhere). I definitely have confidence in Sakurai to not add Waluigi.

Now that is what I am talking about. It is like when Toise went browsing around through his subset of Japanese boards and mentioned how Slime got some requests. Made me feel good. Still is not any kind of indicator what will happen, but at least it is something tiny.

At least that "leak" popularized the idea of him.

I'm not implying that. I'm implying he doesn't have much of a shot. GameFAQs and its' Japanese equivalent do not change that. I am however, implying that Waluigi's best chance at being playable is in a future smash bros game where all the "big names," both new and old are already playable.

Let's say that the entire Brawl cast, Bowser Jr., Dixie Kong, King K. Rool, Ridley, Zoroark/Victini, Mewtwo, Roy, Krom, Takamaru, Little Mac, and Mega Man are all playable. Who else does Nintendo have left to choose=??? A new Pokémon definitely would then come to mind. Yet after that, and maybe a few retros, we got nobody left. Sakurai may then inevitably turn to Waluigi. As a Waluigi fan and someone who wants Waluigi to be a playable character in smash, you should be happy to hear that, even if it means potentially waiting for a decade or more.

@Golden You'll be happy to know that I am one who doesn't despise Waluigi. I actually kinda like him, and I was a tad disappointed when he was confirmed as an AT. I do remember Sakurai saying, "This means he won't be appearing as a playable character, but Waluigi appears, nonetheless!" That sounds like there was some support for him pre-Brawl.

I have seen little mention of Krom so far. I have only seen one request for him, while another post mentioning him talked about him replacing Ike (the post also talked about Zoroark replacing Lucario, Young Link replacing Toon Link, Skyward Sword Link replacing Twilight Princess Link).

Ridley/Bowser Jr. = Boss.

Yeah I think we'll see more diverse opinions in Japan (and here in West) once Uprising and Fire Emblem 13 come out. We may have a lot of Krom, Paletuna, Medusa lovers and/or haters. It is possible one or more of those may become universally loved, much like the phenomenon that happened with Ike and Lucario around when Brawl was revealed.

Andross is better suited as a boss. He was an Assist.The reason I think Bowser Jr. wasn't a boss is Sakurai made Ridley into 2 bosses to make up for him not being playable. I'm sorry, but that is just....stupid, no offense. Ridley being a boss twice wouldn't have anything to do with Jr. In fact, it would make more sense for Jr. to be PLAYABLE at that point while helping out Papa carry out his mission.
Ridley being a boss twice is more likely to give Metroid it's due because he initially felt there were no options for a 2nd Metroid character (which is where Zamus came into the picture). Remember that at first, he said Ridley being playable would have been impossible.

I have a link to the place where I drew those observations from in case anyone is interested. Be warned though, there is a lot of stupidity the more the the topic drags on.

Anyway, here is what I found:
- Mewtwo and Roy are BY FAR the most requested characters for Smash 4. There are no other characters that come close to them in the amount of requests in the comments.
- The true newcomers with the most requests are Waluigi and Starfy.
- For Mario characters its Waluigi>Geno=Dr. Mario>Bowser Jr.=Toad
- For Donkey Kong its Dixie Kong > K. Rool, both got many requests, though Dixie Kong more so, usually its the over way around.
- Ridley, Little Mac, Takamaru, Samurai Goroh, Krystal, Isaac, Saki, Lip, Sukapon got barely any requests (2 or 3)
- Black Shadow is easily the favorite for a F-Zero newcomer.
- Gooey (the second playable character from Dream Land 3) has quite a bit of support in the comments for some reason. The next most supported Kirby character is Galactica Knight.
- Kumatora is the most requested female character outside of Dixie Kong. She is the only Mother character to get a decent amount of requests.
- For Fire Emblem, the only character to receive a notable amount of requests was Roy (of which he probably had the most requests of any character).
- For Pokemon, Mewtwo left every character in the dust (except Roy). However, there were quite a few Pokemon that received a lot of requests. Zoroark received many requests. However, both Victini and Black/White Trainer also received quite a few requests.
- Basically no requests for Zelda characters.
- Barely any requests for Kid Icarus characters (I think Palutena came up three times though).
- Mega Man is the most wanted third-party character.
- Ryu and Leon from Resident Evil also have quite a bit of support.
- For Square-Enix characters, the characters that got the most support were Geno, Cloud, Terry (Dragon Quest), and Sora
- No other third-party characters outside of Capcom and Square-Enix were heavily requested.
- Lots of idiots suggesting anime characters. Doraemon, Goku, Luffy, Naruto, Ichigo were what I saw come up the most.
