King Hippo and either the Raging Bull (I think that was his name), that one Japanese guy, Doc Lewis, or that one voodoo transporting guy. Those would be good choices.

My choices would be:
1. King Hippo: Does a crap ton of damage, and does powerful, unblockable punches. However, hit him in the belly full of jelly at the right moment, and his pants fall off and you see his undies.
2. Raging Bull (reference to the movie of the same name much=???): He does a barrage of punches, and occasionally does his signature Raging Bull charge A perfectly timed him will knock him back and stun him.

In terms of disccusion groups, I'd love to grab the reins of the K. Rool group this time around, but I think since his support levels have (thankfully) skyrocketed, I may have quite a bit of competition...

Yeah I would join that. I actually haven't thought of it until now, but there are no Dixie Kong or K. Rool fan groups here, are there=???

I run the New Ridley Alliance, so definitely; take the group by the reigns and roll with it! I'm gain for some interior crocodile alligators!

When the discussion forum comes, one of the first things I will do is make a support group for Victini (and hope it is active). I also plan on making a prediction thread (perhaps filling in the gap for Wiseguy if he does not return) and make many other threads to kick things off. But the first I will make is an introductory thread.When the discussion forum comes, this should be converted into a social thread (as it seems like it is at times).

Yeah I think Wiseguy is gone. He was in his mid-20's then, so I doubt he would stay. Most people that age leave. But not me, I wanna keep playing kids' games!

Most threads like Wiseguys failed to get much activity. The thing is you have to be very active, and keep updating it to keep people interested. You have to constantly offer your unique perspective, and maybe borrow the perspective of someone else who made a great post on the subject, and dissect it further. I am confident you could do that SSBF!

Bring in a boxing ring stage for Punch Out. We're long overdue.

The problem with making predictions now (in regards to what the roster will be) is that there are too many unknowns. Heck, its even possible that the roster may even only be the same size as Brawl's.

Since, we are talking about alliances. By the time I became active on SmashBoards, most of the the characters I supported had already gotten in (save Olimar). I was never active in the Ridley support topic since the people there were very immature.

I was the the one who started the Roy support alliance though. I still have it in my signature, for four years.

My mind's a blank right now, so I'll make this brief: both characters are popular everywhere, though mostly lacking in obsessive fans like certain other individuals. K. Rool seems to have more visible fan demand, though Dixie's isn't insignificant (and I really do believe Sakurai will come back to her after the failed Diddy/Dixie team idea).

There's an argument out there that having both characters miss the DKCR boat means they shouldn't be playable. This depends on two specious claims:

1. The only DK games that "count" between DK64 and now are Jungle Beat and DKCR.
2. Despite not being in Jungle Beat, Diddy gets a free pass because of... I don't know, Double Dash or something.

and so on and so forth





Is Pieman here to stay? I could really go for a debate over this.

Mario in general: A lot of people seem to think this series really should have more characters on the grounds that it's Nintendo's... nay, gaming's biggest series. Thing is, Sakurai specifically DOESN'T want to arbitrarily load the roster with tons of Mario just because it's a well-known series. Too many hidden gems out there.

Oh yeah, here's why we won't see any new Mario characters: Sakurai had every reason add any pretty much any Mario character he felt like in both Melee and Brawl. Remember that this is Mario, the series where even the most garbage spinoff characters are more well-known to the masses than Samus Aran. Well, he went with the four (five!) listed above, plus Dr. Mario on something of a whim. Unless he's pulling a Kirby-in-Melee (really doubtful), he's content with this series.


*** Toad & Bowser Jr. ***

These are the only two Mario characters I've got in the "I might be wrong" category. I could talk for a while about how Sakurai might just think of Toad as a non-action supporting character or how Bowser Jr. isn't a very appealing character, but I'm too lazy.

Dr. Toise's Diagnosis: the bar for entry as a Mario character is extremely high. Sakurai seems to want only the absolute core characters, and we have those. Toad and Jr. can't even cut it. That's pretty damn exclusive.


**** Everything Else ****

Waluigi: Like Bowser Jr., only he never appears in main Mario games. Despite years of never amounting to anything, some people think he stands out because of... I don't know, being an AT, I guess. Or general ignorance of Wario's games, take your pick.

Paper Mario: Like Dr. Mario, only... well, no, it's just Dr. Mario #2. People who support Paper Mario tend to be pretty irrational about this guy, especially since their first response is inevitably "but he wouldn't be a clone!" Regardless of whether anyone gives a crap about clones/originals. Not that we can't have Paper Mario content in general, but if Sakurai really wanted another Mario, he'd go with...

Dr. Mario: I'm not putting much stock into Sakurai having seriously considered him for Brawl, but I think he'd make a good alt costume for Mario.

Geno: a-hyuk

Kamek: I like him, and if there were to be a Yoshi character, it'd be this guy. I just don't see Sakurai giving a crap, especially since no one else does.

The rest: Do you care? I know I don't.

Yes, I do think Krystal is the #4 character for Star Fox at present, but I don't think she'll be getting in this game. Has nothing to do with Star Fox 64 3D and everything to do with other series being neglected in terms of characters. Really hoping you guys talk up this bit.

Other characters: We know better than that, so pass.

Future of the series: Miyamoto made a joke about how if Star Fox 64 3D doesn't sell well, it'd be the last Star Fox. People on the internet being who they are, took it completely seriously.

My money says this will be the last Star Fox game we'll see in time for Sakurai to start making his roster, however (meaning I also assume there's no Star Fox U in development right now). Not that any of that would necessarily mandate Krystal's inclusion/exclusion in Sakurai's mind, but I figure it's worth mentioning.

*** Roy ***

Right now, Roy's the most likely 3rd character for Fire Emblem (should the series get one). Since I've decided that most people are completely ******** about FE in general and Roy in particular, this thread is mostly gonna be about him.

Q: But Roy's not popular!
A: Yes, he is. Being in Melee did far more for his popularity than any FE game could do for anyone. Yes, not being in Brawl puts Ike ahead of him, but that's about it. No, being an AT didn't do nearly as much for Lyn as being playable did for Marth/Roy/Ike.


Q: But FE fans hate Roy.
A: Nope. Most of the "hate" comes from being a clone/swordsman/male/low-tier character, so we've got a vocal minority that wants someone new. Problem is, nobody can agree on who would be better. Every fan poll has Roy as the highest-voted candidate from Fire Emblem. And that's from the fanbase that actually knows Fire Emblem history.


Q: Couldn't anyone have been done what Roy did in Melee?
A: Probably, assuming they were designed well.


Q: Wait, so doesn't being "made" by Smash kinda cheapen his popularity?
A: Nope. Popularity is popularity, no matter what reason. Roy's not the only nobody to become a star just because of Smash anyway, so meh.


Q: So why not just introduce someone new if fans will eat that up too?
A: This would be a lot easier had Roy never been introduced or if people didn't really care for him after Melee. It's that general "you never forget your first love" type of thing.


Q: Well, what if another new guy comes along?
A: Then Roy's got some serious competition. Entirely possible, but I personally don't expect it at this point. Intelligent Systems (the Fire Emblem team) has made two remakes in the last few years and has stated that they've been thinking about others beyond FE1 and FE3. Barring that, Narihiro (head of IS) has said he wants to make some kind of Fire Emblem All-Stars game. We're probably due for some FE general news soon either way.


Q: Does any of that mean anything for Roy?
A: The staff mentioned remakes for FE4 (because of the whole marriage system) and FE6 (specifically so that Roy could have a proper international game). If we get Narihiro's all-star game, Roy would probably be headlining alongside Marth and Ike (that's another Super Toise $50 Wager, by the way).


Q: Roy in Melee was an advertisement and nothing more.
A: Unproven and almost definitely false given Sakurai's attitude towards character selection -- which, by the way, is entirely his decision. I'm too lazy to start adding links to Sakurai interviews and the old Melee dojo-equivalent right now, but I'll dig them up if someone asks.


Q: We can't bring back characters who were cut.
A: Cutting characters is new for this series and something Sakurai has never talked about. But if other roster-based series are any indication, you're way off base.


*** Other stuff ***

New Guy: Well, this is a wait and see kinda thing. Can we get one? Definitely. Will they be any good? Eh, probably. Will they be female or use something other than a sword? I doubt it, but it's possible. No, Caeda doesn't count.

Old Characters: They're all equally irrelevant, but if you think you realistically justify them besides "why I like this guy," go for it.

Three Fire Emblem characters: Assuming you believe in all the scrapped Brawl data to mean that Roy and Mewtwo were supposed to be in the game (and you should, because I do), then Sakurai already had no problem with three for FE in time for Brawl. Three in SSB4 isn't quite so ridiculous, assuming other neglected series get some lovin', anyway.

I have alot of love for both characters. I also have alot of love for Ghirahim, but yeah.

Impa would make alot of sense as an updated version of Sheik. The Zelda characters this time around are going to be all jumbled anyway, for a number of reasons:

Link will likely use his SS model

Zelda will probably keep her TP model, since, well, her SS model...doesn't do a fighting character model justice. In my opinion.

Ganondorf will probably keep his TP model because, well, it should be obvious.

IF Zelda doesn't keep her TP model, then they have no reason to keep Sheik, and Impa could easily replace her, and give Zelda another down-B. (I really don't like the idea of Zelda's SS model being her Sm4sh model, though...)

So really, I could see either one being a viable choice, but it all depends on what Sakurai does with Zelda's character design this time around, if you ask me.

The Monkey Rap wasn't that bad, just kind of underwhelming after especially the original DKCs intro. The Kongs also almost had real guns in DK64 to.

Jungle Beat wasn't terrible... it just wasn't a Donkey Kong Country game. It was a music/rhythm game. I don't like it, but I think it's a good game... because it was unique.

LONG POST INCOMING!

Something I really think I should bring up, that's been bugging me.

First, where does one even start an Alliance, since Sm4sh hasn't been announced yet? K. Rool needs my love and guidance!

Second, I think I need to bring up his actual chances (I don't care if they were brought up 3000~ pages ago, I'm not going back through that.

This is of course from my usual attempted neutral standpoint.

I hear alot about K. Rool being a nearly-guaranteed character because of increased fan support. Even such that he's likely to be one of the first villains revealed (possibly even in the intro trailer) That's fine and all, but unless Sakurai does the trailer, I find that unlikely. (Just the trailer part.)

The DKC series seems to get alot of love from Sakurai, and for that, I'm amazingly grateful. His inclusion of Diddy when Jungle Beat was basically the most recent game. (Or was it JC? I can't remember) and the DK64/DKC2 additions to Diddy's moveset were amazing.

The wanted inclusion of a Diddy-Dixie team was also freakin' awesome, I would've loved that.

All of this makes it seem pretty likely (That, and the lack of a standout character among the Tiki) that K. Rool would be picked as a rep. There are a couple of things that bug me though:

Nintendo's seeming dislike of the Kremlings, and their lack of inclusion from DKCR. As far as I know, unless my sources are wrong (PLEASE correct me if they are) Miyamoto holds a personal dislike for the Kremlings. (If this is the case, I wonder why they were in Super Sluggers, especially with K. Rool's new outfit)

That, and with all the talk of polls, not once have I seen King K. mentioned on a major poll (Again, someone catch me on my info)

That's all left me a bit skeptical, and while his chances look good with Sakurai at the reins, I'd rather someone else not try and douse those.

This is really all I'm saying:

- 2 recent games of note had K. Rool in them. 2 others did not, one of which was the series revival.

- Sakurai seems to love the DKC franchise, and its characters, meaning major positives.

- Nintendo seems to dislike the traditional DKC's villains, which is NOT a positive.

Anybody got thoughts on the nonsense I'm spewing here? I'm sure this has all been brought up before, but I just can't get my mind comfortably around the "K. Rool is a shoe-in" bit, which I guess is a side-effect of how my brain works.

It's good, the online is better than Brawl IMO. There are hackers unfortunetly, not too many noobs though.
