Yeah, looks like Shulk has a clear shot for SSB4. Be nice, since that game has potential for awesome music and stages.

Is Xenoblade any good? Might pick it up if I have money.

Also would like more colors in team battles. Red, green and blue can be very ugly on certain characters. Why not have a white, black, yellow and brown team as well?

I've only heard praise for the game. It's very very open.

Okay, so Shulk is international.

I want to see how it does, but it does help him.

@SmashChu: You should give Top Roster Candidates v2 a shot.

I wonder when we'll hear news on The Last Story. Good to know that my Wii won't be collecting dust again any time soon.

@Berserker
Here's my description of Ghirahim.

Ghirahim is an opportunistic, sadistic character. Ghirahim can use his daggers to camp or release his buzzsaw dagger projectile as both a punishment and an easy way to start a combo due to the length of the attack. He also uses his teleports, dashes, and counter attack to make the opponent rage which is just what Ghirahim wants.

For the record, if I know the character reasonably well, I do my best to try to incorporate the character's personality into the playstyle, which you can clearly see in my Debbie moveset. Same with the Ganondorf one where he's in your face and won't let you rest until he's through with you.

Sounds like a Smash trophy

Like I said, you'd be surprised if you searched around on some Japanese sites. ;)

Also because I can't resist posting this:

It's so cute. :3

Well he does more than only that. Finally beat him earlier today in Hero Mode. His 'side B' is quite hard to deal with in Hero Mode (sword rush attack).

Would like to see him reappear in another Zelda, but given his role its unlikely.

I was complimenting you, Kuma ;)
Thanks. Looking at it again, and I noticed that it was similar to what the Melee Adventure and All-Star trophies were like. Here's some more so let me know what you think.

With his stubby legs and repeated history of being kidnapped, Toad doesn't seem like much of the fighting type. When the going gets tough, Toad shows what he's made of with his super speed and super strength. Given his size, Toad can move around quite easily and use his strength to catch the opponent literally off guard and to strike at various angles with fury.

Krystal's enchanted staff provides many an opportunity for her. Krystal has many ways to keep her opponent where she wants. She can use her Ice Blast to keep herself in their face, playing it safe with her staff, or to scare the opponent from coming in with her Quake. Krystal has an answer to just about every situation making her a very versatile character.

Ridley is known for eating the flesh of victims and the way he fights reflects that. Ridley likes to stay in the air, waiting for his food er... opponents to come in and try to attack. Try as they might, Ridley has many ways to make the opponent sorry for coming in, and to make matters worse, he can easily trap the opponent after getting them into his attacks make it seem like there is no end to Ridley's onslaught.

At least the bandanna that's on that Waddle Dee makes it more unique than the other Waddle Dees.

Of course, one would find it odd for one Waddle Dee to have to fend off enemy Waddle Dees, but it has happened before.

Sorry for the late response... but for Toad I would have said something along the lines of with "With newfound courage, super strength and super speed, Toad's ready to prove he's more than just a servant to Peach". Other than that, though, it looks good!

Krystal's and Ridley's though are great, couldn't have said them better myself

Did anyone ever really DOUBT Xeno and TLS would come out in the states? I mean, we had so many "leaked" sources saying both games were coming to us. I'm expecting TLS to be comfirmed next.

And the best part is, they also tell you the playstyle of the characters.

Krystal is a mid-range jack of all trades character. Toad is a lightning grappler with strong mixup potential. Ridley is counter character with an aerial reset game that is only matched by Jigglypuff.

I really feel like talking CUTS AND SLOTS for a second. Leaving out character specifications. I think, for the most part, we could GUESS where the new slots are going to be added, and make a list of the MOST LIKELY cut characters, if cuts do happen. So I suppose I could throw in my two cents. Of course, I'll have a better feel for where the roster is going AFTER the trailer reveal, but I still think it's going to be fairly easy to read, especially in this very ambiguous format I'm using. These are ALL SHORTS BETS.

These are all going from most, to least likely adds,

Retro Character
Smaller Franchise Character*
Pokemon Character*
Fire Emblem Character
Donkey Kong Character*
Metroid Character
F-Zero Character
Kid Icarus Character
StarFox Charater
Mario Character
LoZ Character
Wario Character
Mother Character
Yoshi Character

* Is for series I think may get TWO slots

Cut characters:
Lucario/PT (Probably ONE or the other, not both. My bet is on Lucario IF one gets cut, unfortunetly)
Toon Link (The whole sudden rise in Young Link remakes, coupled with the whole delay on Toon games, makes me think TLink has a legititmate shot at being cut)
Snake (Third Party characters are guests, so we don't know if they return or not)
Sonic

The game itself is stunning, people have been begging for this game to be released here for awhile now. From the looks of it, it definitely seems like one of the top Wii games, I know I'll be picking it up for sure. :)

As for team colors, I think yellow would be a nice addition.

How about a Smash trophy quote for King K. Rool...

King K. Rool is a character of extremes. His brute force can lead to quick KOs, and his huge weight makes him a very hard target to hurl off-screen. However, he's a big target in a fight, and his speed is also very poor. As a result, to master K. Rool, you need to learn how to utilize his slow attacks effectively.

I concur with you about the groups you *'d , most realistic.

It's kind of hard for me to picture anyone to get cut this time around. Lucario and PT are both unique. The only reason any cuts would be made to pokemon would be for slot issues. I'm sort of scared for jiggz though (SHE BETTER STAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY). Unless Sakurai decides to use MM Link, I don't see TL getting cut for Young Link. Snake and Sonic are the most questionable here for obvious reasons, but I feel there was a lot of effort put into Snake (codec's , his inclusion in general) to just be taken out of the series considering his creator begged to have him in. Sonic was probably if not the most wanted Brawl character. Cutting one and leaving the other would make people rage. So I think they'd either both get cut or both stay.

i heard that Xenoblade Cronicles is a Gamestop exclusive... this is not good news... a lot of people hate gamespot. (myself included) hopefully, many would get past their hatred for a short while just to get the game NEW... i don't want to see anyone buying this game used... you hear(read) me!? support the developers.

Jigglypuff can handle herself. She's a smash character, for always.

Asage, that is an absoluetly dreadful list. The good choices are drowned out by the stupid, personal or not.

What? Ridley is a counter character? Toad is a grappler. I guess this is a great time for me to segway into this.

The problem I have with the suggestions that come out of Kuma and beserker are that they are not very Smash. They are pretty much right out of the Capcom book. Some may say it's not that bad, but let me put it this way. A few years ago, there was a new Battlestar Galactic. While the original was popular and spawn a few spinoffs, the new one suffered in ratings. When they made a new one, it did poorly, being beaten by Enterprise reruns. The Star Trek movie ran into a similar fate. In both cases, the creators of the new series hated the old one. Zelda has a similar happening as Anouma hates classic Zelda games. Zelda game have become a bargain bin game in Japan because of this.

So what does this have to do with Smash? Simple. When series change from what their origins are, they suffer. Mario boomed again when it returned to it's roots with the "New," games. When series change, they go down hill. The reason I call out Kuma and now beserker is because they don't want to have Smash be Smash. Much llike Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek, they want it to be something different. Namely, they want it to be like other fighting games.

Here is how the process of Capcom has become (especially Marvel 3). Their focus is less on how the character is, but the style. Basically, they have ideas already in mind, and they place characters on to them. MvC 3 has a lot of "style" characters. Arthur is all about projectiles for some reason. They added MODOk as a "unique," character despite the fact he is also a very weak villain (he's known for losing). Heck, they gave Amaterasu Megaman Volnutt's style like it didn't even matter. Wonder why Megaman isn't in the game? Because there is no style to him. he'd be a pretty basic character or they'd have to give him his old moveset. Notice how, for a game that had 50+ characters it's sequel has a lot of new ones. How does that happen? It's because the way Capcom works is styles.

Kuma embraces this. He also mentions how Megaman shouldn't be in the game and loves how Capcom "trolls," them. But this doesn't make much sense. Why "troll," your fans? Why not add a popular character into your game. This would be adding Lip or Muddy Mole over Little Mac because all he does is punch. He's not "unique." And Kuma has suggested those characters for being unique and doing certain things. This isn't to bash Kuma, but to make a point. If Capcom designed Smash instead of Sakurai, you'd see about the same stuff. But it wouldn't be Smash.

Kuma aasked me what was "Smash logic," and I'll tell you now. Smash logic is the rules Smash plays by. It's what makes it successful. There are a lot of things that make it up, but for now I'll focus on how the characters are made.

Characters in Smash are not about style. A lot of people hated on Wolf and Lucas because they were too similar. They were clones. Yes, they are very similar. But that means their style and moves were not the point. They were in the game because people wanted Lucas and Wolf and would like playing as them. What is important is that when Sakurai adds characters, he's looking at the characters and whether or not they are likable. The movesets are an after though. Once the roster is made, the characters moves are made. This is the opposite of Capcom where the style and moves take priority.

So let me return to the quote. Kuma mentioned things like Ridley was a counter character or Toad was a grappler. The question is why? When does Toad grapple in his games. Where in Metroid is Ridley about counters? The thing is that this is running before walking. When I made the Toad moveset, I added moves that seem like Toad. Toad is a helper who gives items, so he is about items. I added the suits because I took them right out of NSMBWii. The big thing when designing a moveset for a character is look at what moves they have and go from there. Don't try to hard to make a style. A big thing to note is the character's moves will not always fit into the "style." They will very a lot and this is all based on what the character does.

Take Ghirahim for example. I made a moveset and I noted he could shoot daggers, teleport, he had a dash, and he he could always guard against Link sword. So I'd make a moveset that incorporates it. I'm not trying to go for a style here. I'm not defining Ghirahim. I'm just making moves. You may say "But wait, how would he play?" He'd be like most of the characters: he wont be shoehorned. He's not going to have a very set style. He'll have distinct movements and properties. But we are not making a style. The player will decide how he plays. That is very important because the player is who we care about. This is why we also care a LOT about the looks of the characters when they are all together and who we add.

Let me finish with this. People too often (well, here mostly) down play Smash Brothers and say that it should be a different game. Kuma says it should be more like other fighting games. Other players say that it should be more competitive. But they forget a simple fact. No other cross over game has gotten close to Smash Bros's success. Not Jump Super Stars. Not the Vs series. Not the Sega All-Star games. Brawl sold 9 million copies. Melee sold 6-7 and 64 did somewhere around 5. Most fail to break 1million and barely any break 2. Smash is also the second most played game on the Wii. Sony is releasing Title Fight, their answer to Smash Bros. They've mentioned that the character's look will be close to their original game. Someone mentioned that it wont work and should do like Smash where they try for one style.

What I'm trying to get people to do is when they discuss this game to star understanding why Smash is the way it is. To really say what the heart of the game is. Not trying to look at every other source and make it some freakinstien game that just falters like the rest of the cross overs. So learn Smash. Than come back and make the movesets.

@SmashChu I agree with ya. Clones aren't bad, so long as they are different characters. But on the matter of Clones... If Pichu comes back, do you guys think he'll be given Pikachu's cloneset again? If so, that DMG taking drawback has got to go.

Your personal opinion is just a bad one. That's it. IN every way, your view on most characters you mentioned is warped.

Ice Climbers, ROB, and Olimar have major fanbases within the Smash community. On both the competitive and casual side. You then suggest Young Link shouldn't have been cut, when he's most definitely the LEAST used/liked character to ever grace Smash. Both Pichu and Doc have a large fanbase, in BOTH communites. Pichu much less in the competitive world, but AT LEAST there are competitive Pichu players. I don't know much, but I've seen competitive players play as almost everyone but Young Link.

Young Link is argueably the least "liked" addition to Smash, and you want to throw out IC's and Olimar? Two completely unique and heavily played as fighters.

Your opinion, in my opinion, sucks.

I object. Why cut Olimar, Jigglypuff, ROB and the Ice Climbers? All are total unique characters. The 3rd parties I could understand, being "guest" fighters and all, but I think that to would cause some commotion.

Personally, I'd only want a character cut if they can be replaced with a character with a similar style. Like Roy->Ike, Mewtwo->, Young Link->Toon Link from Melee to Brawl.

So my personal cut / replacement list would be like:

Ike* -> Chrome / FE Lord Wii U
Lucario -> Mewtwo (again, but would be cool with both)
Sheik -> Impa

*: I don't want Ike being cut neccecarly. He imo was one of the coolest Fire Emblem lords, and he was quite a popular character in Brawl (for newbies mostly, but he's got a cool style). And like Marth, one of the few lords staring more titles, and is internationally known. Inteligent Systems also suggested Ike to be in as a Fire Emblem representitive in Brawl. So therefore it's likely he'll be gone, but I wouldn't like it.

And again I'll say; if Mewtwo was cut with an original moveset, why should Sheik and Ike be sparred from this?
