I wanted to make Star as uncomfortable as possible. And it starts with an S.

I think it looks like I'm ROCKING OUT because I was listening to Mario Kart music because of Star.

Well if I may relate this back to the rumored Sakurai quote, if many people, even now, can't see what he can do, maybe Sakurai won't either, for in it he says he couldn't think of a moveset for him back in Melee as well.

Either way, IMO the only thing that is between Toad and playable status is a unique moveset that keeps his "character" intact. It is a shame though, I must say. :(
I have yet to see any evidence for this supposed quote, so need less to say I am not going to sweat it. It goes in the same box as "Meowth was planned for SSB64".

The only thing between Toad not being playable is not being playable. I have seen quite a few mentions of Toad from people who are not denizens of the net. Also a lot of Bowser requests... Did not say they followed gaming closely...

Notice Toad's innate instinct to run when given a challenging opponent? He saw OUR BEAUTIFUL hair, and knew he stood no chance. Looks like Toad LOSES AGAIN.

And yet Luigi is playable? Go figure. I mean it was not like he was not terrified of a Waddle Dee in Subspace Emissary? Certainly not, it is absurd to even consider it. I mean other fighting games do not even have reluctant or oblivious fighters. It is a good thing Norimoro, Servbot, or Phoenix Wright do not exist.

Since the humorous route did not convey my point here is the crux. Personality does not affect the ability of a character. Just like "lack of ability" is not a real issue when most of the characters moveset are made up in a way that is consistent with the character. If we were talking about a Tetris block that would be one thing, but this is not the case.

Didn't L-Block win the GameFAQs battle? :troll:

On a serious note, a moveset can be made for just about anything. Regardless of shape or size. It's more imagination. Instead of putting limits, remove the limits and let it fly!

Anyone see Super Smash Bros. Crusade? It seems that the developers were able to easily envision Toad in a Smash Bros. game based on his said properties and abilities:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MTZx7yrT6g

See Toad in action at 0:54 - 1:32

Honestly, just basing a character based on one's non ability to envision a character to not being able to fight is just wrong until we actually see the character in Smash Bros.. Really, how many of you actually were able to see Princess Peach, Zelda, the toy ROB, Captain Falcon being able to fight until they made it into a Smash Bros. game? Ironically, these characters are among some of the more popular fighters in the series. It all comes down to creativity.

R.O.B. was the only one I thought couldn't fight. Captain Falcon was a bounty hunter. Peach and Zelda fought in non-canon stuff(with SMB2USA being canon).(CD-i games for Zelda, and both Princesses in the Cartoons) It wasn't hard to imagine. Princess fight actually quite often, anyway.

Captain Falcon never came out of his car in his games, so back then it was impossible to see how he would work (therefore, inspiration came from the anime). Peach had a suitable game; however, that does not mean that she has completely cannon moves. At least a good chunk of her moves were completely made up on her heart like properties. Zelda's moves came from Link as well.

And you are really using the CD-i games and cartoons for both? The cartoons were not cannon and even so we could apply the same to Toad as he was an active character in the Mario cartoons as well while in the Zelda games made by Nintendo Zelda never fought prior to melee (I don't know about after except for Spirit Tracks). Also from what I remember, Peach and Zelda rarely are seen fighting. Peach fights more of course; however, those are in the RPG and Paper Mario games. Otherwise, we have not seen Peach in action since SMB2 (SPP being the exception which came after Melee).

From what I remember, both princesses need to be saved quite often instead (if only they could fight past the low tier Bowser and Ganondorf like they do in Smash Bros.) :troll:

...The anime was AFTER Super Smash Bros. And I hope you meant Super Mario Bros. 2 USA and Super Mario RPG for Peach. Also, yes, Captain Falcon fought in a comic/manga(forget which) that was with one of the F-Zero games. He used his blaster, but generally could fight.

And you are really using the CD-i games and cartoons for both? Super Mario RPG, Peach fought. And she did do a few things in Paper Mario as well. Sakurai could've gotten his inspiration from anywhere. Canon does NOT matter when it says that yeah, it's possible for them to fight. If I see that they fought in something, it makes it believable. Regardless of where the moves come from, Zelda and Peach fought in various media. That means they can be made to fight. It's that simple. You're putting too much emphasis on canon which has no real effect on Smash Bros. in the first place, and actual appearances. That's all that proves it. Both have fought somewhere. If any random person can make them fightable, so can Sakurai.

Same thing for Toad. He fought somewhere. Okay, he can be made to fight. And just because Zelda used 3 spells of Link's doesn't mean that she can't use her own moves from other media. Plus, it's not like she didn't steal from Link's style before. Zelda Cartoon she used his items. She later on took the ability to control enemies like in Wind Waker during Spirit Tracks. She borrows from him often enough in which she plays a fighting role.

Don't worry, I did not forget about SMRPG (hence I mentioned the Mario RPG and Paper Mario games). Indeed, canon is not always important; however, you do need inspiration from somewhere. A character works depending on how they fought in the games from their own series.

Of course, you are correct that canon is not always the best solution as Sakurai creatively makes movesets for the characters. How many characters in Brawl actually have most of their moves from actual games? Very few. Most have variations or moves based on their properties. This is why I am saying the same for Toad. People say that they cannot imagine him to fight; however, the same can be applied to any character in Smash anyways. Toad fights sometimes in the canon; however, he can still fight and Sakurai could still very easily make him into a playable character as any character has potential if we have at least seen them fight once before. If done correctly, people will start to see Toad as a potential fighter just like how they saw Peach, Zelda, ROB, etc being able to fight.

Again, it all comes down to creativity of the character and Toad has a ton of it (a humanoid mushroom is something very rare in most media).

Right. All I'm saying is that anything can be inspiration, that's all.

I think any of the big Mario 4 could be great fighters. Those being Jr.(with or without Shadow Mario), Toad, Waluigi, and Paper Mario, in NO particular order.

I would've liked for TP Zelda to use her sword for a few moves in Brawl myself.

Hm, based on Skyward Sword, do you think it is possible to see Zelda with a few more moves? I like her moveset so far in Smash bros.; however, there is still always room for change and more. I don't have the game; however, I feel that she does have potential from that game.

Zelda with a sword would be nice to see; however, she does keep her uniqueness with her magic power. We already have quite a few sword fighters in smash, so it does not do her much justice. That's my opinion. I think more people anticipate to seeing Ganondorf with a sword instead (poor Ganon fans)! :p

I still wish to see a unique Toon Link. I always thought of him to having the deku leaf, skull hammer, fire arrow and etc. instead of what he has now. Yes, he represents the younger incarnation of Link; however, it would be much better to see him as an actual unique character. Additionally, I always wondered why they did not make the Ballad of Gales his final smash (it would have had a lot of potential indeed).

...Argh, don't call Ganon and Ganondorf the same. Anyway, to be honest, I'd love for OoT Ganon to be fightable. As in the pig form with two swords. Final Smash or otherwise. Ganondorf only fought with a sword in Wind Waker and TP anyway.

As for Zelda, I think just a lot of buffs and to make her good alone so Sheik is not required.(which means Impa can be made playable)

I'll keep that in mind about the whole Ganondorf and Ganon issue. Still, it would be nice to see Ganondorf get some better moves for himself (his moves so far really do not do him much justice at the moment and are in no case unique as well).

Also agreed about the Zelda part. It would be better to enchance her gameplay, so that Zelda herself could be used more often instead of Shiek. I do not know much about SS; however, from the looks of it, Impa does seem to be a developing character and if so she may have potential as well.

And as a quick question has anyone even made a grab Toad moveset yet? I'm curious to see how it could work.

Murder Choke, Forward A, Thunder Punch, Smash Up A, Up A. All are unique in Brawl. He needs more though.

Agreed. Not sure what to do besides buff her defenses and make her range better. She has a great moveset, is just doesn't work right.

Ok, you got me there about Ganondorf, but still...I would like to see a little less "Falcon" emphasis on him. :p However, I do understand Sakurai's point about his body shape being similar to Falcon's in this instance.

Also in Zelda's case, I think her defenses are indeed the attribute that she needs raised if we were to get a better Zelda. She has the power and abilities; however, she is just unable to defend herself from her opponents. Additionally, could extra speed help her as well (seems to work in Shiek's case)? Her moveset in Smash is a very unique one; however, like you say we need it to be executed better than how it was before.

A bit of extra speed would help her. Although I'm guessing the dress makes her a bit slower logic-wise. But still.

And I completely agree on Ganondorf. Sword, Magic, Trident. Tons of possible choices. He was luigified a bit in Brawl... which would've been great if he was actually GOOD as is.

Ganondorf had an interesting FS in Brawl; however, he too while being "Luigified" was pretty nerfed as well. His speed and lack of defensive moves were his downfall along with a poor recovery to aid his weak jumps (at least in my opinion). I was disappointed by his appearance in Brawl as I actually used to be intimidated by his appearance in Melee (his fierce power and appearance). In Brawl, he literally does run like an "elderly man". Well again, his FS was an exception in terms of him being fierce.

Zelda could use some more speed as I do envision her to being slightly faster (she does have the build for it). However, perhaps some more speedier moves would help as well (being released faster)? Stronger throwing power would also help her a bit too I'd imagine.

Too bad the Final Smashes aren't considered in Competitive Gameplay. I mean, if there were more stuff like his, and less like Super Sonic's, they'd be fair choices. His is actually pretty balanced combine with how he plays. Also, well, guy's old!

I think that she was supposed to be weaker physically. I'd like her magic moves to be heavily buffed. That would make her actually pretty strong, but still reasonable. If her defenses aren't super strong, while her magic attacks are, that could help keep the balance.

Yes, some more strength in her magic moves would help quite a bit. Moves such as her Din's Fire could easily be buffed up in some ways. She would not need to be physically strong to execute them; however, I would like to see more magic implemented in her throws (thinks of Zelda making throws like Mewtwo :p). Her Smash moves are pretty good for the most part; however, if we can just get her magic moves as well as perhaps her aerial gameplay fixed up, she might be able to become a better character.

Well, she's the spellcaster of the group. She needs more magical strength as is! And yeah, I can't much improve what you already said here.

Ganondorf was always more of the strongman anyway. So he atleast makes sense. He has the best of all worlds.

News on the Victini Blog:

-New data: Trophy Normal and Trophy Final Smash verisons now have displayed information.

-Due to ---'s awesome picture search, I now have an awesome image of what Victini's Normal Trophy may look like.
~
-Upcoming information: V2 Moveset idea is deleted. It's not worth trying to make another Victini moveset, because the one I have now is pretty good. However, I do have new information for what some Stickers would look like if they return.

-Upcoming Pictures: 3 different stickers, Battle animation (Finally, I got around to doing a few), and an awesome Victini (Purple) Final Smash look.

-Upcoming Intel: I'll be adding a new Info-Bar called "Speculation Intel". It'll talk about some speculations about Victini and his entrance to SSB4.
~~~
I made a (B) moveset/FS for Toad. Check it out.
[COLLAPSE="Toad (B)/FS Moveset"](B): Toad Throw:
He grabs a plant that appears in front of him (Like Peach), but you can hold the (B) button and he'll strain when he picks it up. That's because the longer you hold the (B) button (4 seconds max), you pick up a bigger Turnip. After you get it, you can throw it. DMG: Click: Throw DMG is 4%, small. Little hold: Throw DMG is 7%, medium. Alot of Hold: Throw DMG is 9%, medium. Max Hold: Throw is 12%, Big (2x bigger then Toad.).
(B)>: Panic Dash:
He runs for 3 Character Spaces in a panic at 2x his normal run speed, which is as fast as Luigi. When he runs through someone, they take electric damage and go straight upwards. You also take no dmg when you're in this phase. Toad will trip after spam use once. DMG: 7% Electric.
(B)v: Super Toad:
If attacked by a physical attack, he grabs the opponent, and tosses them straight up. Reference to the rumor of Toad having super human powers in Super Mario Land 2 (?). DMG: Depending on the attack, divide it by 2. If the damage is an odd number, it will take the final point and use it it the attack. If Toad takes 23 DMG, he'll do 12 DMG.
(B)^: Bounce Shroom:
A mushroom comes under Toad and he bounces off it. If he's on the ground, the mushroom will stay there for awhile. If the opponent bounces off it, spores follow them as they jump up. These spores make the opponent take 2% dmg per second.
Final Smash: Smashroom
He eats a Red Mushroom with Purple lines on it that makes the top look like the Smash Bros. Icon. He multiplies into 3 different Toads that are Red and Purple. They all have 100 Stanima, and are lvl 9 CPUs. The FS Stops when the clones die or the original dies. The original is the same color as he once was before.[/COLLAPSE]
Some news from Serebii:
Serebii said:
Pokémon at Jump Festa
As we reported last month, the Pokémon Company is set to be in Jump Festa on December 17th and 18th and to provide a surprise announcement there. While we still don't know what the announcement is, the official site has put in some hints saying that at Jump Festa, they will provide the latest Pokémon game and goods information. As there are no upcoming games in Japan at the moment, this indicates a probability that a new game shall be revealed. This, however, is not a guarantee as it could end up just speaking about the recent game and announcements focusing on other aspects of the franchise. We do know that there will be a surprise announcement and we do know that PokéPark 2 and the merchandise Pokémon Battle Chess are to be showcased so it's hard to say for sure. It's possible that if there is a game coming, it will be revealed in CoroCoro prior to Jump Festa. We'll bring more news as and when it comes
Seems like a new video game being released is sort of obvious at present time. But I'm also not the announcer of the news, so I'm not 100% sure.
I did. Like 2 with Kuma. There's also an item based one by Chu
1.) Main Toad moveset
2.) Toad 2.0
3.) Toad's item based moveset
4.) A secret Toad moveset that was never shown
Thank you, I'll take a look at these later. ;)
No thanks are necessary, I've found pics like that for pretty much every character that could be in Smash 4, except for KI characters.
You'd be surprised if you Google searched a character's Japanese name instead of English.
I've never seen this brought up before, but how about Arcade Endings in Smash a la Mortal Kombat? They'd be non-canon and would be unlocked via completing Classic Mode with the selected character
@Metal They do. When you beat a character's Classic mode, you get a little montage, with the music being the victory theme of Smash, and then a memorial Picture.
Good idea metal overlord. On a slightly related note, i dreamed about SSB4. the only new charACTER I can remember is baby bowser, but the cool thing was that there was an announcer before every match, like a Koopa would say Toad Vs. Tom Nook or something.
I remember being disappointed in 64 and Melee that there was never a vs. screen. 64 and Melee already gave us 1-on-1, 3-on-1, and 2-on-2. All that's left is FFA, 2-on-1, and the various team combinations. It could also better mask the loading times than what we have now.
Smash 4 : Random character descriptions
Mario
A well rounded character who can combo and zone. He has a mix of attacks that are used for zoning or for rush down. A good character to begin with. Easy to learn but actually, hard to master.
Luigi
He's rounded at first glance but once you play as him, he's the "cowardly aggressive type". He has tools for rushing down nicely and running away. He can chunk out a lot of damage although he has low traction leaving him open for punishment. Be CAREFUL (Cowardly part) and beat up your opponent (Aggressive part)!
Peach
Peach has a special ability to glide which plays a great role in her rushdown game. She can do any sort of rush down from her high priority aerials to her turnip projectile although.... Be wary of her low weight
Bowser
Bowser is a terrifying enemy that relies on his strong, quick and powerful attacks mixed with his grabs. Most of his attacks are armored. He is the heaviest character in the game but that makes him open to a lot of combos.
Toad
Toad is a small character who lacks in the range department but he has no difficulty when it comes to getting in opponents. Using his projectiles to set up for offenses, specials to rush down, lunging grabs and normals to damage and mushrooms to retreat or rush down, Toad is gonna be one tough pest!
Bowser Jr.
Jr. is a small brute that relies on his paintbrush specials to set up for offense. His normals lack range but they do pack a punch. His paintbrush specials combined with his normals make Jr. one of the most annoying characters to deal with but using Jr. will require wise usage of paint specials and precise usage of normals.
Paper Mario
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong is a powerhouse that can deal a ton of damage in a matter of hits. What makes it even scarier is that his attacks have long range... He's also the 3rd heaviest in the game losing only to Bowser and K Rool but just like them, he's a target for long combos.
Diddy Kong
Diddy is an agile character who can easily run around the stage thanks to his number of mobile options. He can shoot peanuts while using the jet pack, rush down the enemy using Monkey Flip or control the stage using bananas. Diddy is gonna be hard to hit but once he is hit, it's gonna get rough (Diddy doesn't have that much weight).
King K Rool
K Rool is the slow jack of all trades type. He can actually approach and prevent foes from approaching, and quite well at that. He can be where he wants to be, should he play intelligently. While this might seem broken when coupled with his power, if a fast foe should get right up in K. Rool's face, he's dead meat. No literally, he is dead meat, as he'll be making up a delicious meal of combo food for the small fast character. K. Rool is the largest character in the game, meaning it's absurdly easy for someone like Fox or Shiek to come up to him and utilt him in mass for over 50% damage, or for even Ganondorf to dtilt his percentage up.
Dixie Kong
Dixie's main asset is her defensive abilities. Although she is sent flying more easily than Diddy, she makes up for it in several more ways than one. Dixie forgoes Diddy's bananas for the strongest & most versatile counter in the game. Although it can absorb energy projectiles, w/ its slow startup delay, she might be better off using Side B for most of those, perhaps w/ an exception to Fireballs, Thunder Jolts, PK Thunders, & energy projectiles used from some distance. Her bubble attacks also have a sort of secondary counter effect. Dixie's Neutral B is like a medium between Marth's & Ike's Neutral B, except w/ an arguably better hitbox, growing in size as it does w/ power, & can auto-execute for defensive purposes. Also of note is her shield. Being slightly bigger than other fighters of similar size, it can take a bit more punishment. Although the set knockback of her Side B means she won't be KO'ing anyone with it any time soon, its awesome knockback resistance stops would-be jugglers cold. Finally, although Dixie can definitely hold her own in 1v1s, it is in team battles where she really shines. Shines with blinding awesomeness at that.
Link
Link relies on his numerous amount of weapons to zone. He has combo potential but unfortunately, his sword attacks aren't so fast. His sword, arrows and boomerang specials can be used to fend off enemies. His bombs can be used to set up defenses and his clawshots can be to punish rush downs (Or just--- straighforward.... stop them).
Zelda
Zelda is known as "The zoning queen". She has some of the best projectiles in the game such as Din's fire and the triforce trap. Din's fire is used for zoning in general and can be capable for set ups. Her triforce trap is a scary tool used to fend off rush downs. Unfortunately, her normals aren't so great and they lack speed.
Ganondorf
Ganondorf is known to be "The weakest of the hard hitters". Though in trade, his attacks are much faster than those of the big hard hitters and he's rather more mobile than them. He can also set up for offense using his lightning ball and rush down using his gerudo charge.
Toon Link
Toon Link is sort of like Link except he has a lot more safer options when it comes to rush down. He can do both rush down and zoning so he's pretty much a tiny jack-of-all-trades that's pretty easy to kill once he's hit.
Ghirahim
Samus
Samus is a projectile rush down type. She uses her fast firing charge shots along with her missiles and bombs to rush down the enemy. Unfortunately, Samus is actually an easy character to hit so be careful with her so learn when to run or rush down.
Ridley
Ridley is a punisher type of character. Ridley's ground attacks are quite awkward and weak but his aerials are long ranged making it capable for mid/long range punishment. He can also use his fireballs to keepaway or even punish. Once you get hit by Ridley, prepare to die.
Dark Samus
Dark Samus.... IS LIKE SAMUS. No moveset so far
Yoshi
Yoshi is a hard hitter that relies on his mobility in the air to get in the opponent. Most of his aerials are spastic but they deal a ton of shield damage and pretty much base damage in general. Though he is lacking in the recovery and KO department, he's extremely good when it comes to racking up damage.
Kirby
Kirby is a rush down character who has the ability to copy neutral special abilities thanks to his inhale. He can easily do short damaging combos and he can KO enemies on the spot. His attacks have high priority which makes Kirby has no problem when he goes against certain attacks. Despite these advantages, he lacks mobility and he's pretty easy to edgeguard.
Meta Knight
Meta Knight is a demonic rush down who relies on DPS (Damage per second). He can string his normals and specials really well to form combos. Despite this, he has a serious problem regarding his lacking KO options and his weight is also a main problem for him.
King Dedede
Dedede is the type of hard hitter that can't do much combos. Most of his combos only compose of 2 or 3 hits. Despite this, his attacks are long ranged and powerful. Basically, he's a long range keep away type/hard hitter.
Waddle Dee
Waddle Dee is a rush down that relies on his long range spear attacks. His spear attacks can easily string to each other and they deal a good amount of shield damage. Waddle Dee havs problems though regarding KOing his opponent. Oh... He's also light.
Fox
Fox is an extremely technical character. He requires quick thinking, fast fingers and dexterity. Most of his attacks are extremely useful along with his shines and lasers making him a formidable character. Despite this, he has an extremely high learning curve. If you like technical characters that come with a lot of rewards, Fox is the man for you.
Falco
Falco is a defensive character in general but unlike the other defensive types, his is rather more "controlled" thanks to his quick and versatile lasers, flip kicks and reflectors. Although, he fears those with fast offense especially since he's super light.
Wolf
Wolf is a feral rush down character. His attacks keep himself near the enemy. He's also hard to shake off. Wolf is one of the best choices against zoners but he might have problems regarding heavy hard hitter characters like Bowser.
Krystal
Krystal is a character that excels greatly at mid-range combat thanks to her range while having her Fire Blaster and Quake as zoning backup. Your objective with Krystal is to scare the opponent with these projectiles while being close enough to poke in for damage. Her preferred way to K.O. is horizontally. Her attacks don’t do the greatest knockback aside from a few so use her aerial pokes, Ice Blast and potentially other attacks for edgeguarding the opponent which she is also good at.
Pikachu
Pikachu is a rush down character. He has also the necessary tools to rush down and he even has some decent KO options. Unfortunately, when Pika gets hit, some of his options get unsafe and most of his aerials may become extremely risky to use. Glass cannon rush down. The end.
Jigglypuff
Jigglypuff is known as the aerial demon. She specializes in strong, long ranged aerials that can be used to keep away and rush down. She also has a ton of KO options and she's extremely mobile in the air. Although, her ground game is extremely terrible having a mix of some of the worst normals in the game.
Pokemon trainer
TOO LAZY
Victini
Um.... Someone please fill up this part
Zoroark
Zoroark is an all around type. He can do a mix of all playstyles. The problem though is that he can't do them as well as the others who excel in that certain playstyle but, his main advantage is that he can still do them decently.
Genesect
Captain Falcon
Falcon is one of the best gimpers in the game thanks to his strong and quick attacks in addition to his numerous amount of rush down and mix up options. If you master the art of FALCOOOON, you might be capable of killing anyone in just one combo! Just... get used to his recovery issue.....
Samurai Goroh
What?
Black Shadow
10whats?
TO BE CONTINUED FROM EARTHBOUND TO THE REST
Thoughts? Some of these character's playstyle description are based on our "non SF-y wishes" and some are based on their former playstyle in the past smash bros. games. Just to make it clear, I made sure none of the descriptions reminded you of SF. If they did well.... AH **** IT.
Wasn't there more of these.
Well... Yeah. I can scavenge for some in the old thread but I'm too lazy. I pretty much recall that there are like 99 more movesets for Toad.
I'm gonna take a wild guess of what Crimson's moveset for Toad is:
Neutral B : Ice flower
Forward B : Kart
Upward B : Propeller cap
Downward B : Was it a bob omb buddy or a pluck trick?
