I was really disappointed with the way Wario turned out in Brawl. I was a big supporter of Wario in the pre-Melee/Brawl days because I liked Wario Land 3. I expected Wario to get a moveset based on his Wario Land transformations like Vampire Wario, Zombie Wario, Snowball Wario, etc. That is the biggest reason why I supported Wario... for the Wario Land moveset he could get in Smash. And what did I get? A farting biker. This is not the Wario I know... and this is certainly not the Wario I asked for. The classic overalls Wario gets as an alternate costume feels like Sakurai is just throwing the Wario Land fans a bone, just to get us to shut up about Wario.
I loved Wario Land 3 too. Of the WL games I've played (all of them but the original and Virtual Boy), Wario Land 3 was the best, IMO. Added many new elements on top of the excellent Wario Land 2 and added the night-day feature - which not only added to the puzzle element of the Wario Land series, but gave each level double the replayability basically.
Heh... in the years following Wario Land 4, whenever I was in a rush to go somewhere,
this would always play in me head.
I was too young before Brawl to be excited for Wario before the game's announcement. After the announcement, I realized Wario was wearing his WarioWare outfit and not his classic overalls - that means something. Nevertheless, I was hopeful for some Wario Land references.
Then I played Brawl and found only a frickin' VB Wario Land sticker as the
sole reference to the existence of Wario Land outside the Chronicle.
Disappointing.
Technically, you could call WL: Shake It, Wario Land 5. It might just be a temporary codename.
I think you're forgetting Virtual Boy Wario Land. Add that to the list, and WL: Shake It is actually the sixth title in the series.
@Metal Overlord
Imagine hearing this while fighting in Smash:

You are awesome now, you know that?
You know... I wouldn't mind if SSB4 removed Ganondorf and replaced him with Ganon. At least they are the same character... just different moves. But I don't want the Ganon from Twilight Princess... I always preferred the Ganon from the early games, especially A Link to the Past.
Ganon from LttP would be very cool, and I honestly wouldn't mind replacing Ganondorf for him. Too bad it's not going to happen.
That is cool, Wario land rep should happen, Orbulon anyone?
Orbulon's from Wario
Ware - there's a difference between the two series. But Orbulon would indeed be a cool character having seen StarPhoenix's moveset.
Orbulon was never in Wario Land games. Hey Sakurai, you either give me a Wario Land rep like Wario with a new moveset or just give me Captain Syrup if you're too damn lazy to fix Wario's moveset!
*Sakurai does neither and adds a Wario Land AT instead.*
Sakurai: There! That's your Wario Land rep!
Fans goes into a nerd-rage.
Sakurai: Hahahaha!
Actually, that or a stage, preferably the latter, are
all I'm asking for Wario Land representation in SSB4. Or even just some trophies and stickers, for God's sake.
Just a couple trophies and stickers... can't be too hard for you, Sakurai...
Unfortunately, according to Chronobound, Sakurai has a specific bias against the Wario Land series, basically saying he saw Wario as nothing special or unique until Wario Ware.
This isn't a Nintendo congress, so you could have Vaati or Ghirahim depending on how things turn out. Toon Link just needs to be made unique. A wind waker attack where he can control the wind in assorted directions would automatically make him unique.
I know that. I'm just suggesting the possibility Vaati replaced Toon Link
Wow, looks like a cute loli to me, Id say have Lip instead.
How about
both?
Ashley would be a very cool character for SSB4. She's a frickin' witch - there's so much potential in that.
