Jersey doesn't like it, but we don't care much as it's a transitional period. They're PA smashers now, which is more important than whether or not they're on other rankings current as of last month.

I feel like these rankings are slightly biased seeing as all the panelists are on the list itself. Just a question, when the discussion arises for a certain panelist to where they will fall on the list, do they participate in the discussion or not? If they do, I feel that that is quite absurd. Not to even mention the fact that I feel that a couple of the panelists that are on their don't even deserve to be ranked compared to some of the other players that aren't ranked and I have no problem calling them out on it, Wesley and Kevin. I know personally that I cannot beat either of you (but thats not saying much), but you both know as well as the rest of us do that there are a few Pittsburghers that are not on that list that consistently beat you. I'd like to see the tournament results that either of you have to back up your particular rankings, because I have either completely over looked them or as I personally feel they don't exist. Just for a few examples to back up the fact that you lack the results to be where you are:

Both Pocky and Evan made it out of the first round of pools at Pound2, Wesley did not.

Taki placed 3rd at an Ohio tournament with some good competition, Pocky if I remember correctly place 7th or 9th during his one trip to Ohio.

Alan has consistently placed in the top 7 in every Ohio tourney he attended, sometimes even making the top 5.

Rob consistently placed well at the Ohio tournaments typically placing in the Top 7 also.

I'm not trying to be jerk here, just rational. I really have nothing personal against either of you, I just thought I'd point out something I have been observing. I just feel like you guys as panelists and friends might be more worried about being friends to each other and exaggerating the truth than you are worried about making reasonable and fair rankings. And if you cannot set your friendship and egos aside to create fair rankings then you should just give up, because they will always be biased (I understand that friendship is more important but if your going to make rankings at least try and be fair about it).

first off, most of the people you named don't even qualify for the list based on the criteria of activity

secondly, i challenge you to find 2 states where the panelists themselves aren't on the rankings. it's pretty logical to have the best and most active players doing the rankings as opposed to random mr scrubtacular who doesn't leave his house and can only judge people based on whether he got 3stocked or 4stocked

i'm not going to go much deeper as far as myself but rest assured my track record is significantly better than those you mentioned, and also i'd like to hear who you think are pittsburghers that 'consistently beat me'. I will concede Justin (though he doesn't 'consistently' beat me anymore) but he doesn't even go to tournaments; how can we rank him?

In recent memory, I've taken tournament sets off of anden, eggm, sensei, emblem lord, copycat, alexandertriad, cheezit (lol i'm just reading based on who's on the NJ rankings list, so i don't know how much weight those hold), doyoung2win, HBK, lord knight, velocity, wesley, el komosutro, nintendude. going further back i've beaten swiftbass (though he has beaten me the last 2-3x we played in tourney) and xyt (it's just been too long since we played in tourney). I've taken individual games off of chillin, g-regulate, plank, aho, jiano, husband, xif, vist, pakman, and some other players that are good but you probably haven't heard of them and they aren't worth mentioning single games on. you want to rank based on single tournament results? why don't we just remember velocity's mowfest performance and put him dead last in the state?

i placed just as consistently (as your buddybuddies did in ohio) at NJ tournies all summer with much better competition

i'd like to hear some of the wins that your best friends forever have taken

edit: I can't think of a single pittsburgher that consistently beats wesley. care to enlighten?

also there's been an open call for panelists for about 4 months now. the reason the panelists are all a group of friends is because 1) we all travel so we know each other well and get along because we aren't preoccupied with stupid stuff; 2) NO ONE ELSE has volunteered

finally, i appreciate that you had the guts to say what you thought and didn't hold back from dropping names (not dropping names is not productive at all). i hope you don't think i'm trying to shoot you down with what i've said in this post; i'd really like to hear your full justifications though

I want to expect better of you, but I know not to
I also appreciate your concern Matt, but as Pocky said... who in Pittsburgh besides Swift consistently beats me? I'm not unbeatable, but I honestly believe that I go better than 50% against everyone in Pittsburgh besides Swift (who mostly wrecks my ***) and Pocky (who I go about 50/50 with).

My tourney wins that matter are against Velocity (Cheezits), Pakman (VLS Pools), Swift (Smashpocalypse), Scar (Komo's), Pocky (Rock Smash), and Komo (Smashpocalypse) to name a few. The Pakman one was after rankings were done, but the others are all pretty noteworthy and as you can see from the tournies, I go to a lot of them. Not that sheer number's matter, but there are often free seats in my car to go places and no one in Pittsburgh steps up for them. If people really care about their rankings and proving their worth in the state, you need to travel a bit more. Honestly, the Pittsburgh turnout at Rock Smash was pathetic, it was just 5 of us even though that tourney was only an hour away. If you really want to prove your worth in the state, you need to go out there and show it. I know you guys go to Ohio sometimes, but your in state participation has been lacking, so it's hard for the PA smash community to know how to rank you guys.

Once again though, I really appreciate you having the courage to just throw your ideas out there. This sort of debate is much more useful than most of the arguments about rankings that have hit this thread.

As a player who has never gone to Pittsburgh, I have never heard of let alone played most of the guys out there, with the exception of Taki, who did impress me. He needs more time and experience but that's just one person.

No one else was even mentioned for discussion, which means that Wes, Pocky, and Swift thought they were not qualified. If any of the Pittsburgh players deserved to be ranked, they would certainly be mentioned and discussed, but no one is even at that level.

And I really hope that you guys drive out to PA or we can all meet in MD/VA and get some matches in, because again, I am very much looking forward to a PA top 15 list.

Most of what Taki needs is to just play Marth. It's so nice! His parents also seem to be mad strict about him going places, which is totally weak.

I cannot speak about Alan as I have played him exactly once since last school year.

EDIT: I'm a member of TSA now, so someone should edit the first post.

taki is amazing but he'll be the first to tell you he lacks any amount of consistency. if there were still 15 places, he'd be there easily. also yes, play marth lol

does alan even play anymore? i can't wait til he gets to a million points on guitar hero (yes, southpark reference)

No johns or anything, do, but im sure you know that i've gotten better, maybe even significantly better since pound2. I cant compare our skill levels because we only played friendlies a while back.

QFT, Marth is easy. Except against Swift's fox he just too often wrecks the **** out of me.

There are too many people that ARE better than me in PA right now for me to be ranked IMO.

When it comes to the point that I beat Wesely/PockyD or whomever in a nice long set of matches, and lose only 10-15% of the matches, then I'd call myself better.

But IMO I think i've become a better tourney player, so I'd like that to speak for me as opposed to who I can beat/get beaten by in friendlies.

P.S. Scar you ***** my **** too hard to have me impress you >_<

This is why I got mad before about the previous rankings. You guys exclude what you consider to be flukes, like when velocity got *****, or when I got 9th at scranton or when cactuar gets ***** OOS. The secondary point of my state-wide tournament last april was to set the rankings straight, and it's too bad that cactuar and pakman didn't go but that was their choice. Not only did you guys not count velocity getting *****, velocity didn't even put his rank on his little tournament rankings list. I can make myself look mad good too and list all the tournaments I've won, even in the past year I've won the most tournaments out of the PA players by far. It's completely ridiculous to have a list based on tournament results when you choose to throw some of the placings out because you don't like them. Velocity got dead last at mowfest. Period. Whether you like it or not should make little difference.

At least this new list is much better than the last one.

who in Pittsburgh besides Swift consistently beats me?
claiming to be the best smasher in pittsburgh is like claiming to be the best skier in arizona.

idk A lot of scrubs think that if player X takes 2 stock off and player Y takes 3 stock off then player Y is better than player X, but that's not always true. We had fine matches, and I could tell that (IIRC) your tech skill is pretty solid and your control over your character isn't bad, especially considering that you're playing Fox.

So when it comes down to it, you definitely have potential as a player. I can't tell if you'll ever get better from those few matches, but there's a very different feel to a player when they are scrubs or not.

So it's a common misconception, but I strongly feel that results are very different from skill level in Smash. It's important to keep that in mind.

aww... don't forget me guys = / lol
Sheik, for some reason I don't count you as a Pittsburgh smasher. No offense.

claiming to be the best smasher in pittsburgh is like claiming to be the best skier in arizona.
Wes was only responding to ReadySetGo who said that people in Pittsburgh beat him consistently. lol He knows that that doesn't give him bragging rights, just like I know that "6th in PA" isn't a big deal, especially considering that most inactives are better than I am which would put me pretty **** low in a sub-par state.

The panelists did the best we could as a whole. I personally have not played most of Pittsburgh, and I have been around for a fair amount of time and have been to plenty OOS tournies. I mean there are plenty of players whose skill is probably skewed because they are inactive. Dot eater, Komosutro, Vagabond are all underrated because they don't travel as much and usually play the same people all the time. Its a sad fact that to get noticed you have to travel. But those of us who have not played these inactives cannot rank them or speak for them.

I told myself I wouldn't money match anyone cause I dont like the idea of a moneymatch, but if I can go to scars tournamnet definitly. I only money matched once, so I dont know how much is like normal, but yea sure. At least make it best 3/5 with promise of playing some friendlies XD. And also this is all based on if I can make it. Its gonna be tough with my work schedule and exams that week so yea >.>

idk, I just think of "Pocky Wesley Swift and random scrubs who complain about rankings" as Pittsburgh players. So I didn't include you when I said "no other Pittsburgh people were discussed."

I try. As of now I'm just waiting for some heightened activity from the non-Pittsburgh Pittsburghers to get me back in the swing of things. Thought I'd be moving onto UT3 by now but things change, and Halo failed to maintain my interest to the precise degree that I struggled to convince myself that it wouldn't.

12,500,000 point career score in Guitar Hero 3. I'm a ***.
