also, another point i want to make: this whole shirt thing that PB&J's associated with––– THE IDEA IS GUD. the issue is, the designer ****ING SUCKS. seriously that guy is awful. he just puts like... pictures up. there's no art involved. the waveshine thing was the most creative part, BUT THAT'S NOT EVEN HOW YOU WAVESHINE. that **** will have you airdodging sideways! my basic point is, someone step up, somewhere in the world, and help make better Melee shirts. cause Melee is like, mad stylish, and needs to be like everywhere. for instance i was thinking of one shirt that just has the legs of C. Fabulous on the front during his Uair, and it just says some DJN thing like "hit him with his lugz".

basically the shirt idea is great, we just need more creativity. that Isai shirt is ****in BOSS..

also, everyone check out mine and Mike's livestream we're doin eventually, **** is gonna be ****.

Was this necessary?

Why was it so long?

whats ur point?

Thanks for the insight cam.
lol my point was just.... why do people choose between these two games. i was hypothesizing that it came down to combos.

but tbh my real belief is that Brawl players just haven't played Melee enough. or they wouldn't be playing Brawl anymore. JOHL.

i know bro im just messin. not sure about that whole dont play melee enough. What if i told u brawl has better graphics and that what will never make me go to melee. yea, let that simmer.

edit: then again, if most melee people would clear there blindness for a second and play brawl competitive, they would like it 2.

They are 2 completely different games. They have similar goals but the rules of each game are not the same. One game grants that if you hit someone there is a short grace period where if you react fast enough you can land another hit. The other game grants the hit opponent an opportunity after they get hit and in order to land another hit you must make a correct read and/or quick reaction. DI is in both games so you do have to read that after each hit to successfully follow up.

I like brawl because in order to successfully take a stock with a string of hits you have to correctly read them and outsmart them after each hit. It feels so much more gratifying knowing that I completely outplayed and outsmarted my opponent when they have an opportunity between hits. I like that I have a better chance to get out of my opponents attack strings on me.

When I play melee while I do enjoy getting combos they don't feel as gratifying because my opponent is basically helpless in them. I don't like being helplessly thrown around by my opponent either.

Both games are amazing but I just like brawl more than melee. Tech skill and speed are mostly irrelevant to my enjoyment of a game.

Melee combo videos are still probably way better than brawl combo videos.

Here are sick falco combo videos from brawl and melee.

brawl

melee

I love brawl's graphical effects (or rather, hate melee's), but I hate how Brawl's color scheme is. That is, every color is muted for no apparent reason (read: realism). But in melee people actually have colors and I like it.

Keith, I started wanting to play competitive Brawl, and not with random characters, with G&W and Olimar (G&W was realllly up in the tiers at the time, if that matters). And when people wanted to play melee at the library I didn't like it because I didn't know how to play it as well as I could Brawl. But then I picked up a character I liked in Melee (Ganondorf, as opposed to Mewtwo and Ness) and grew very tired of brawl.
So, I mean, it's not like melee players are blind. I'm sure they tried brawl and didn't like it.

i appreciate the response Trevor. but, obv in the argument of Melee vs. Brawl, the effect of combos is a little overstated in defense of Brawl. that **** definitely doesn't "own" the match... it really just kinda hurries it along, so there's no waiting around trying to sneak in a couple pokes -_-;; ... the bottom line is in both games, if you don't predict, you're going to lose. i think combos just make the whole thing more exciting.

but understand, especially you Keith, that i do NOT hate Brawl. i just don't like how you have to play it competitively, i feel like there's far far less freedom (ironically, since you aren't being caught in hitstun very much). tbh, i actually love Brawl. it was the first smash game i actually tried to get into competitively, and i had a **** ton of fun playing it with my brother and our friends. but at the time i wasn't playing other people (who wanted to play high level) at all, and you can't train in Brawl unless you're playing other people, so that, and the fact that high-level Melee just looked entertaining, basically led me to Melee, which i sort of felt i had a responsibility to learn as a smasher. eventually i learned Melee was just way better suited for me, and i stopped playing Brawl altogether, since it just wasn't nearly as exciting. the rest is all gay, but i ended up improving A LOT in Melee, in really not a long time, especially for how much i was playing/entering when i first started. it's possible to get good, and i still feel myself constantly improving, you really just need the right mindset.

So me and Omni were discussing (and pretty much decided on) holding one of these this Friday, Brawl only.

Sort of a warmup for HERB, and Brawl to go with the Duke Melee the next day, and with only one game we can hold it after school/work and if anyone wants to attend both tournaments, it should be fairly easy to just hop over to Duke the next day.

Just wanted to mention it now and update later today with it unless anyone has major problems with it.
