This is hard. My autistic twin brother just died today. He died from tuberculosis. I didn't post for pity. If I had known the symptoms. I didn't. I erg you, your friends and family to be checked for anything regularly. And to be aware of the symptoms of the most common dangerous dieses. Even if it's prostate cancer don't be immature and go 'lol they want me to feel my balls regularly', just do it damn it.

Why does being autistic have anything to do with dying from TB? I'm autistic and I'm no more prone to TB than you are. The same goes for pretty much everything except for other neurological disorders, such as ADHD (not the player), ODD, OCD, and a couple of others linked to it.

That said, I've had a cough for some time I haven't thought much of, made a doctor's appointment to get it checked out.

I didn't suggest it had anything to do with his autism.

Then why mention it?

That said, I'm genuinely sorry for your loss, but it still bothers me that you find it necessary to parade his being autistic. It's a matter of being an autistic who happens to be a person vs. being a person who happens to be autistic, and quite frankly I am sick of the former. Would I say "my obese brother died"? Would I specify "my neurotypical brother"?

Just something to think about.

Where people get NOTHING.
Maybe he has multiple siblings or had spoken about his family before and used that deffinition for identification? So that we would know which one he's talking about?

idk but I'm sorry to hear that Chis..life is something one should never take for granted. At least your brother is finally free from his impaired mind. Sorry for your loss.

I see Supreme's point, and I'm sorry for your loss. And Sonic, that's terrible to say.

I don't think Sonic meant it an offensive way. If you're of a religious faith, that could be implicitly trying to say he'll be better in heaven where there are no limits.

That being said, idk, and I'm not religious.

That's obviously ****ing not what he was saying. He wasn't trying to be offensive because he's an imbecile. But that's not really better.

Maybe I'm crazy, but didn't they cure tuberculosis a while back? I always thought you got vaccinated as a child.

I'm so sorry for your loss : ( That's awful

Tuberculosis has yet to be cured. It can be vaccinated or maintained, but not cured.
That's what I learned in my history class at least...my teacher has fun facts like that.

Yeah godsmith. BCG is the vaccine. I guess privatized healthcare encourages people to avoid paying for vaccinations.

WAIT. If playboy bunnies are to be believed, vaccinations cause autism. Paradox.
Every child in the UK gets the BCG for sure at 13, I think maybe it's one very young then a top up or whatever at 13.

In any case every child is meant to get it and it's free.

I understand your point, but this isn't the place for that discussion. This is someone's personal story, told in very condensed form. You noticed the "autistic" part, but you didn't mention the "twin" part, nor the "brother" part. I don't think the OP is "parading around" his brother's autism any more than he's parading around him being a twin or a male sibling.

Also, some people with autism report having problems recognizing when they should go to the doctor, much in the same way some people who don't feel hunger might forget to eat.

TB is making a comeback. There are some virulent strains out there that have developed antibiotic resistance.

Yeah, there's latent tuberculosis and active. In latent, the symptons aren't active but you still have it and it can become active which can kill you

No unfortunately =/ My best friend contracted TB end of freshman year and was in the hospital for two months. He had to also take 9 months of medicine daily and then weekly/biweekly. (don't remember exactly)

Someone in my hometown recently died from it too I'm pretty sure. It can hide in your body for years apparently, cause the only place I feel my friend would've picked it up was when he went to Peru 3-4 years earlier.
