Darkness: Top Tier?

I don't even remember half of the augments, I put a lot of them on characters I knew I would lose in order to get their bonus augments.

****, good **** from EL.

One thing about Vivi though; he was disgusting at the end of the game. Doomsday was his strongest spell, which did massive shadow damage to everything on the screen. Equip your party with shadow absorb gear and he's nuking the enemies and healing your party for obscene amounts every turn. But thats only endgame, so I have to agree with mid tier. Overall that list is perfect.

FFX: Real quick, Wakka easily in top tier. Lulu in bottom. Another FF game where magic is terrible. Magic was god tier in FFVI. Speaking of FFVI, a rough list...

Broke:
Terra

Garbage:

Cyan was bad too. Gau w/ Stray Cat or Magic Urn, yup, lovely. Still think Terra was better overall though.

Emblem Lord loves to analyze games and be extremely knowledgeable about it, then debate the results. It's one of his better traits as a gamer.

That being said, I liked Ark in FFIX because it reminds me of Transformers, and that's cool.

Advanced Technique: LolATB

Requires: Freya, Garnet

Cast Reis Wind, Boost-summon Ark.

Group is at full health due to regen ticking during Ark's summon. You also have time to make food.

Ark is def a Decepticon, by the way.

I liked Ark because if you cast Regen on your party it continually heals for the entire duration of Ark, which is a pretty long time.

Because it's melee and ledgecamping isn't broken in that game.

These tiers are based on maximum potential, and overall usefulness. I did a bit of research for them and just used plain common sense because most of these are obvious.

Upper God Tier

Limit Break - Increases damage limit to 99999. Can only be obtained twice. This is self-explanatory. A character with amazing stats and augments like Focus, Darkness, or Bluff to back them up can wreak havoc with Limit Break. It will take three playthroughs to bring out the full potential of this augment, but when you do, all things in this world are within your grasp. This augment stands alone at the pinnacle of all augments.

God Tier

Level Lust - Enemies give 1.5x their regular XP when defeated. Ultimately it comes down to what is going to help you the most in the game and help you bring out your characters potential. Level Lust makes it easier to level and the higher your level is, the closer you are to maxing out your characters potential. This means Level Lust is amazing.

Draw Attacks - Causes all enemies to target the character with their attacks and
spells. It's Cover on steroids. When given to a tank like Cecil for example, your party can pretty much take a nap while Cecil eats the damage for a three course meal. When paired with counter, Cecil can single handedly take down an enemy party in less then 12 seconds and you don't have to enter a single command. All hit all skills and magic will be able to hurt your party, but even then they can still Defend or just support Cecil and kill the enemy group before a battle turns for the worst.

Dualcast - Allows the caster to cast two spells in a row. Too broken with Rosa. Full party Protect and Shell. Cast Slow on a boss then Haste one of your party members. Heal your party then cast Libra. You get the idea.

????'s Love - Strength is increased by the number of times you have summoned Whyt in battle. The cap is 99. Massive boost in physical damage FTW. Give it to Cecil.

Top Tier

Omnicasting - Allows the caster to cast any spell they know as a multitarget spell. This is good for one reason. Full party Haste. So disgusting, it's delicious. Full party Reflect is nice too, if Rosa has Piercing Magic.

Focus - Increases the damage of the next attack. Can be stacked up to three times.
1 Focus = 2x damage, 2 Focus = 3.3x damage, 3 Focus = 4.5x damage. This move is a staple boss killer. Nothing much to say. Focus 3 times then you attack. NOW THAT'S WHAT I LIKE TO CALL BIG DAMAGE!!!!

Counter - When the character with this ability is attacked, they will automatically counterattack with the first ability on their list. This is Attack by default but abilities can be rearranged to be most non-passive
abilities of your choice. This is for any tank really, but Rydia can do mean things when counter is paired with summon or black magic as her first ability and Kain can use Jump with it too. But Cecil is your best choice. With this attached, Cecil doesn't kill people. Counter kills people. It's true power is unleashed when used in conjunction with Draw attacks and to a lesser extent, Cover as well.

Reach - Attacks from the back row do the same amount of damage as they would from the front row. This augment makes Edge good. It's just that beastly. Nuff said.

Phoenix - When the character dies, all of their mp is consumed and everyone else who is dead is revived with hp equal to the percentage of mp that was consumed. You would give this to Kain usually. Since he Jumps all the time he will be avoiding most enemy attacks and this means he is getting hit alot less and is most likely going to be the last man standing if your party gets wrecked. So when he gets put down for the count the others will be brought back. Plus it gives his MP a use.

Fast Talker - Reduces casting time for all schools of magic by 50%. This is for Rydia. Makes Summons even more viable in battle since they will come out faster.

Darkness - Gives the character the Darkness status for a short period of time. During this time when the character attacks, s/he does double damage (the extra damage is Darkness attribute) but loses 10% of their own health. This is a straight up boss killer. It can also stack with Jump to do 4 times damage which is amazing for Limit Break. Give this to Kain, since he can abuse it best and has enough HP where the HP requirement doesn't mean anything.

Pray - Small amount of HP and MP restored when cast. I think it's 10% of your max HP and MP. Free = no cost just in case you forgot what free means. Has a chance to fail, but so what? If it does you didn't risk anything. Stick Rosa in the back row and just spam this.

Bless - All characters slowly regen their mp back after this is used. Free MP regen? *orgasms* This is really good when Rosa is using Pray after Bless has been cast.

Twincast - Allows two casters to use Twincast spells together. Both casters must select Twincast in order to cast the spell. This can be used to cast some amazing spells. But mainly its awesome for Cecil with Limit Break. With this on Cecil and Rosa they can cast Ultima which has a power of 999. To give you an idea what kind of power that is, I'll give you something to compare it too. Bahamut's power is 250. So with this Cecil can wreak havoc and other characters can do some cool spells too like Bravery which buffs the parties physical attack. Check out some guides to see what other spells are possible.

High Tier

Bardsong - Allows the caster to use Bardsong spells. No cost. Free status effects and free HP regen with Life's anthem.

Kick - Physical attack on every enemy. The damage per target goes down as you hit more targets at once. Can be used with Focus to mitigate the damage reduction effect.

Brace - Reduces damage taken by 75% while active. Must select it, like Defend. And like Defend you can select it once and then when that characters ATB fills up again, you can stay in Brace until you choose another action for that character. This augment is just amazing at what it does. With augments like Focus, Kick and Brace, it's little wonder that Yang is Top Tier.

Cry - Lowers defense of all enemies by 50%. Works on most bosses as well as normal enemies as well. So you get great random encounter support along with boss battle support.

Bluff - Doubles Intelligence of user (up to 99) for next spell cast. Cannot be stacked. Overall it's solid but since it only last for one attack and can't be stacked, it's not quite as good as Focus or Darkness. Still it's the only buff ability for mages and it's still really good.

HP+50% - Raises the character's HP by 50%. More HP for tanks so they can tank even more or more HP for mages so they have greater survivability. It's a win/win either way.

MP+50% - Raises the character's MP by 50%. More MP for healing or more MP for offensive spells. Once again, either way you win.

Piercing Magic - Allows the caster's spells to go through the Reflect spell. Cures going through your reflect is good. Offensive spells going through reflect is good. Piercing Magic is good.

Salve - Allows the character to use healing items on all party members instead of just one. This is just awesome party support right here.

Tsunami - Causes all enemies to take water damage. Chance to Death targets. This would probably be mid tier, but the chance of death bumps it up.

Mid Tier

*NOTE* Most of this stuff isn't really great, but you would need it to max out your stats, since once your character hits level 70 their stat gains are given a boost when they level based on which augments/abilities they have equipped. There are some augments here that you don't need to max stats, but they are still decent so they end up as mid tier.

Inferno - Very strong Fire attack on all enemies and all allies. It hurts you too which sucks. Reflect might be able to take care of that, but I haven't tested it yet.

Whirlwind - Strong wind damage on the target. Weakens the target to Fire, causing Fire sources to do 50% more damage. Use any fire attack after this for great results.

Item Lore - Doubles the potency of items when used in battle. This includes using weapons as an item. Most useful when you use a weapon as an item to cast powerful spells and effects.

Eye Gouge - Blinds all enemies. Bosses are immune. Cry is better then this. Still good for random battles though.

Upgrade - Consumes an item that attacks an enemy with attribute damage (like Bomb Fragments have Fire Attribute) and adds that attribute to physical attacks. Not amazing, but it's good boss battle support.

Low Tier

*NOTE* This stuff isn't good and you really shouldn't be using it. It's all throw away augments you give to characters so they can give you their augments later.

Curse - Curses the target, lowering all stats by 20%. Good effect, but Cry is better since it will lower defense by 50% which is the main stat you would need to lower to wreak havoc. Plus bosses are immune.

Analyze - Cast Libra on all enemies at once. Eh, it's ok for what it does. But it's not really good or anything.

Adrenaline - When the character's health drops below 20%, their physical and magic attack power is doubled. You won't live long enough to abuse this vs bosses and you wouldn't want an augment that you can only abuse when you're near dead anyway.

Last Stand - When user's health drops below 20%, his/her defense and magic defense double. This is the crappy version of Adrenaline. You need this to max stats though which keeps it out of bottom tier.

Bottom Tier

*NOTE* This crap is just throw away augments or extra augments that can help you out in different ways other then battle.

Hide - Causes the character to hide offscreen, preventing any enemies from attacking the character but also preventing the character from attacking while hiding. Jump is the good version of this. Plus with this augment equipped the character will automatically hide when they are low on HP, so they can't get hit, but you can't heal them either. Lame.

Auto-Potion - When the character takes damage, s/he will automatically use a Potion. It's decent in theory, but in practice there are just so many more augments that are better then this, that it's not even funny.

Gil Farmer - Gil obtained after fights increased by 50%. Getting money isn't really a problem in this game.

Treasure Hunting - Causes the probability of all item drops in the game to double. Good for when you want rare stuff, but useless outside of that.

Safe Travel - he party has no random enemy encounters while this ability is equipped. Good for when you don't feel like fighting enemies. But it doesn't help you **** anything.

Edits for my FF IV DS tier character tier list.

Rosa should be in top tier. White magic and pray are too good.

FuSoYa is mid tier. He is decent, but he doesn't level so I think he gobbles exp.

Tellah blows. Low tier for him since his MP doesn't increase, Recall is useless once he remembers his spells, and his stats are just crap.
