i been getting my *** kicked in starcraft II for the past couple of days

i only really ever played UMS and money maps in the original SC

so all this tactical LT maps and stuff in SC2 BETA is really throwing me off.

can somebody teach me how to play this god**** game better? lol

like this is an example of a build order in sc1 for protoss (does not transfer to sc2)

26 Robotics Facility
keep pumping dragoons
30 Robotics Support Bay

A build order is a unit/building plan that you try to adhere to that gives you a general game plan. In this case it's a 2-gate aggresive goon build that moves into a fast reaver to pressure the opponent as you put up an expansion, generally a solid build vs. terran, etc.

but that's sc1

go look up some sc2 build orders and practice them (i dunno them either yet =D)

try to figure out what works, the only reasons these things exist in the first place is just because somebody sat down and figured out what worked and what didn't work

Yeah somewhat. Memorize how many workers before adding more supply, before adding some tech, etc. It's an escalating strategy? Just look them up. I'm a complete noob though.

what if i got rushed in the middle of all that building, and i had to change it or so?

wouldnt it be better NOT to memorize build orders and just "freestyle play" according to the situation?

this build order stuff looks alot like fake martial arts set-move techniques that they tell you which work in a real fight.. but doesnt

nah, the point of a build order is an ideal guideline. you memorize lots of them and then apply the proper ones based on what you see your opponent doing with your scout after pylon. that's a pretty standard 2gate goon build i posted, but it's a PvT build exclusively, you wouldn't use that same BO against zerg or against another protoss either

I signed up for the SC2 beta hella long ago and they finally emailed me a beta key. I'm sure I'll buy the game when it comes out anyway, but I'm lazy so it's nice that I don't have to bother preordering and that I can just download it now. I'll play some of you guys later this week once I've got it installed and have some free time.
