Tery, I don't remember the last time I touched a Pokemon game. Though come HG/SS, I'll be hooked on it like flies to fruit.

Umbreon, I need your Shoddy name. I assume you're Eastern time.

That makes me sadface. *Sadface*

Oh well. Also, can I bump the SWF-Dex thread?

3. Matches throughout the tournament will be double elimination, best 2-out-of-3. The finals for winners and losers bracket will be best 3-out-of-5.
Just for clarification, this means that there is a loser's bracket? It's a bit confusing when you say "matches" as opposed to "tournament" is double elimination.

One last question:

In theory, could we use a team of six NU Pokémon? IE, can a Pokémon be replaced with a lower-tier Pokémon and still satisfy tier requirements?

Oh! Oh! I have a suggestion then. Each round, mix up the amount of Pokemon you can have from each tier. Maybe throw an Uber tier placing in there too on occasion. It may seem annoying to have to make a new team every battle, but it adds variety too. Thus, the tournament will be more fun overall. And as long as you set the due dates for battles far enough away, it shouldn't be a huge deal if they have to make a new team each time.

Just my suggestion. You can use it or leave it. Doesn't matter. :p

Two of the more interesting tournaments I've seen on Smogon forced players to make new teams each round. Random tournament gave each play eight (?) fully-evolved Pokemon to choose for battle. An item-limiting tournament set specific constraints for item usage.

Yeah, I saw both of those too. I wish I could have been looking for tournaments back when that started. It would have been fun. :(

Also, I lol'd at the guy who got Unown. There's no way he's making it past that round.

Pink Reaper, why is he not allowed to join?

I really like the idea of switching up the amount of Pokemon per tier per round. I think I'll implement it. :)

My only problem with this is that tournies already run so slow with many people going inactive. Having them make new teams/change teams each round may just lead to further inactivity.

It's not as hard if you've played in every tier a bit, or at least know a bit about each. Something that may or may not help, though, is that no one else here has done this before either. Thus, we're all basically in the same boat of trying to mix these tiers to make something viable, and none of us will really be able to do valid testing either.

The strategy I'd say to use is just choose a couple things from OU that your team can focus on, and then build the rest of your team based on what would normally help them out in OU. For instance, if you need a revenge killer, then find something in UU or NU that is simply a step or two down from what revenge killer you'd normally use. The fact that everyone else will have to do these types of things too means your revenge killer will still be extremely useful, even though it may normally be really outclassed.

Knowing past things that have fallen down to lower tiers could help as well. The reason why is because in most cases, these are the ones that are outclassed, and they're probably your best bet at finding something practical.

This also helps with switching around teams to accommodate tier limits.

Is this starting before/after the current round of UU/OU suspects?

Should the tier list change before we finish, what do we do with the tiers?

This.

Seriously, the UU metagame just finished yesterday, I'm pretty sure today they're nominating suspects, and a week after, voters are revealed, then a week from then, voting. That's one week after the sign-ups for the tournament end. Thus, I think we should wait a bit before doing this tournament, since the suspects are going to be voted on only a week after, and it's not that much of a time to wait.

Added all the new particpants.

Regarding the UU tier changes - This tournament will use the tiers setup by Smogon as of NOW. Therefore at the current point Cresselia and Porygon Z are UU, etc. Anything that happens during this week with the suspects will be ignored. Tournaments end up lagging due to delayed starts, so I'm making sure this one won't.

And I've decided to keep the set tier rule: 2 OU / 2 UU / 2 NU.
