True, but Palutena could probably take care of herself (with the exception of the Chaos Kin and first game's Medusa incident). Tbh I'm not big on her summoning troops. D: Besides, it'll just mean more moves to show off Palutena's power, like her attempt at using Wolf Claws, or the Power of Caging!

Doesn't the picture of Palutena seem to be missing expressions? Palutena's face in these pics, seem to have a blank, consistent expression in both. That doesn't seem like something Sakurai would do.
While that may seem like something to think about, I don't think something like that is enough to disprove the picture. For all we know, that model may be in it's initial stages of development.

There has been plenty of research done on the pictures, and all evidence points towards the pictures being real, both in evidence from the pictures themselves, and the mere concept of the leak itself.

If it happens to be real, then we got a great new character and, if Sakurai wasn't the one to leak this picture, someone is getting fired.

Actually, there is a subtle difference. I believe her mouth is slightly open in one. Though her state seems neutral regardless.

Plus, I remember that DK didn't have any expressions in the earliest screens of him.

As far as the expression goes: We didn't really see her doing anything that would lend itself to more than a neutral expression anyway.

So...I wouldn't worry too much about that. If she was being HIT, and she had that expression, I'd call either early development or totally ****ing fake.

As it stands, it's either just a neutral expression (which she's been known to make several times) or early development shot.

It's almost as if the game is in development.

The only picture I remember with DK having a particular expression was the picture with him on the Boxing Ring stage. He had a very confused, but intrigued look on his face.

Yes. I guess I am just someone who would expect different expressions when Sakurai shows a picture of a character. (any negative vibe given off of this message is not intentional)

Honestly, this leak is probably the best thing for Smashboards. We were in a drought for news really (well, not really) but hype dies fast around here. So I can appreciate something like this.

I think this character thread should have some details on the leak, comparing what points towards it being real, and what points towards false. I'd be more than willing to contribute.

That's probably because I've been one of the more annoying optimists, but Palutena was one of the characters I truly wanted more than most others. So this leak being pretty good has gotten me excited.

Sorry, I meant to specify the 3DS version of it. DK always looked fine in the Wii U version. Early 3DS screens showed him with a neutral expression where shouldn't.

From my experience, only very important reactionary expression is done early (such as being hit).

If you have a character that talks, you work on facial expression/animation around the same time you start to implement your voice samples. It only makes sense to do it all together, really.

For characters that don't have anything to say, the animators who cover that will get to it whenever possible. Even characters that make sounds like Dedede or Pikachu have never had mouth moving, so it's safe to get it done when there is time.

If I may contribute to the picture being real. I notice that there are little rectangle like images on the 3DS's screen that seem consistent in both pictures. So that is a plus for being real.

I'll quote a post of mine about expressions, for the pictures
Ah yes, Pikachu and its stoic (I think that is the right word) expression.

If it's real, someone's not getting fired. Someone's going to have an unfortunate, but fatal, accident. Nintendo's pretty serious about leaks.

Dont worry. I just mean she is defensive, but prefer her not to rely on summoned forces. I know she'd be more of a defensive character though.

I present my moveset for Palutena, which you can find in the spoiler below. I left out taunts and the Final Smash, because those aren't particularly hard to imagine. Like many others, I imagine her as a defensive character. That said, I actually avoided making her too strong defensively. Which might sound silly if that is the style she is intended for, but I want to make her as fun to fight as she is to play as.

A mid-ranged specialist, and skilled with her shield and staff alike. She is great at zoning out ground attacks and keeping enemies out of the air, but is vulnerable in the air herself, and has to risk her defence to score KOs. She is tall, heavy, but also floaty at the same time.

Specials

B: Mote
Creates a bubble-like mote of light from her staff and fires it off. It homes onto the enemy before vanishing after a few seconds. This move has two functions dictated by whether or not you charge it.

Fire it off regularly, and they travel respectively fast, but too fast for homing to assist the motes, making them easy to avoid.
Charge it for about a second, and the bubble is bigger, deals more damage, but travels slower. Because it travels slower, it has an easier time homing in on the enemy.

You want to utilize both fast motes and slow motes to mixup the enemy and make approaching more precarious. Not much knockback, but good for wearing down her enemy.

B Forward: Shield Throw
Palutena throws her shield at the enemy. Whether or not it has struck true, celestial forces will lift the shield up and return it to Palutena's arm. This move is not strong on its own, but grows stronger over time, and stronger with every attack blocked with her Mirror Shield. When fully charged it has excellent KO potential, but Palutena cannot block or use any of her shield attacks while it is out, so make it count!

You can increase the distance thrown by charging it.

B Down: Mirror Shield
Holds up her shield, blocking attacks and reflecting projectiles. Much like with Pit in Brawl, you can pull it out just as an attack strikes to flip around the attacker. Not much has changed since then, though the shield now creates a barrier in-front of Palutena for more coverage, due to her height.

B Up: Ascension
Angelic wings manifest around Palutena and wrap her like a cocoon as she spins upwards. At the apex of her ascent, the wings spread outwards, knocking away enemies nearby. You can angle this as needed.

Smash Attacks

Forward: A forward shield charge of great might. This move has super armour for the attack portion.
Down: Holds the staff with both hands and thrusts the base into the ground, creating a low shockwave to both sides.
Up: Extends her hand to the sky and fires lightning upwards. Great for aerial denial.

Normals

Jab: Spins the staff in-front of her as long as A is held.
Forward Tilt: Thrusts the staff forward. If it should hit, lighting comes down and strikes the enemy.
Down Tilt: Crouching horizontal shield swipe.
Upward: A single staff spin above, like Ike's up aerial.
Dash Attack: Running shield charge. This one works without the shield, too, just less effective.

Aerials

Neutral: Spins the staff to her side, striking enemies all around her.
Forward: Straight horizontal staff swing. Narrow hitbox, but fast and good knockback.
Back: Backwards shield swipe. Another hard hitting attack.
Down: From the original Kid Icarus comes the mallet, which she swings straight downwards.
Up: Twirls the staff above. Multi-hitting attack that is good for warding off meteor smashes on recovery.

Throws

Grab; Palutena extends her staff forward. Should it connect, she uses celestial magic to float the enemy in place.
Pummel: Slams the enemy to the ground repeatedly using her magic.
Forward: Uses her staff like a baseball bat to knock them out of the park.
Backwards: Flings them behind her at a low angle.
Down: Raises them higher before slamming them on the ground.
Up: Spins them around once before throwing them into the sky.

A lot of games represented in Smash Bros need their own Smash Spin-off. Like a Zelda Smash, or a Kid Icarus Smash. It would just so perfect.
Spin-offs? Why go that far? I've played a lot of smash-like game, "Jump ----Stars" and in the first game there were 34 playable characters, in the second there were 56. But really more than that cause each character needed to select their special moves and health bars by how much of your screen you gave to that character, so it really was closer to hundreds. And some were very different in their full play style for larger amounts of screen like second Gear Luffy or Bankai Ichigo or Vegitto or Super Saiyan Naruto (Or whatever he calls going all demon fox. Kyuubi?)

Point is, in these character hope threads I don't get the hate or 'this character isn't deserving of a slot'. Why are we limiting the number of slots? Balance, I guess, the more characters the harder to balance, but it sure isn't disc space if they're dropping the subspace emissary they just freed up loads of space. And people have made fighting games with giant character select screens before. Jump Ultimate Stars or Marvel Vs Capcom 2 are great examples.

I have a dream of a smash brothers where your character select screen is a split screen for each player that lets them cycle throughout different series that essentially all have so many entrants that they have character select screens each to themselves. The more characters the merrier.

Except for Tingle, I think a piece of Link's dignity died when he was born. I would rather have a cross dressing mutant dinosaur like Birdo in this game than that middle aged balloon riding force gem stealing cartographer in a weird green suit. Though to be fair, I would totally love having Birdo as a Luigi-fied Yoshi.

New tangent, as for Palutena's move set, I totally had to shoot her a bunch in Uprising, and she shot me back! So doesn't she have some moves from her as a boss battle (Like Dedede does)? She might not, I don't remember the fight that well, she was possessed by a chaos kin and she may have been really really big.

And finally: Team real. She's totally in this game. I'm just hoping Medusa somehow makes it too. Smash gives us such an opportunity to play as the bad guys.

I'm actually kinda curious to what extent the Chaos Kin would be involved in her moveset, if any.

I always found the Inside Hades level the most frustrating, for some reason.

I find every level frustrating because I hate the controls. :/

I wish Uprising was just a sidescroller like the original. Not like they can't just make more Sin & Punishment if people like rail shooters.

I honestly didn't mind Uprising's controls. I'm really bad at shooters, and I find dual-analog shooters like CoD and Halo disorienting.

Hardest level for me was Ch.24's flying segment, because those weapons hit like a truck.

I think Palutena's centurions should appear for her final smash but instead of just them the Centurion knights should also appear to truly reflect the strength of her army.

BTW did someone say they wanted a KI fighter? ;)

Missing Craggalanche as a heavy fighter, otherwise perfect. And maybe Space Pirates. And the chariot master guy, he seemed pretty cool.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am a recent convert to Palutenaism. She is the One True Leak, and we are her prophets.

Pit's got jack and s*** on sycophancy compared to me.

No Dog, Girl, or that thing after the Wizard, but needs Cragalanche and a secret 3ST Pit somewhere. Space Pirates (if not the captain) would also be nice indeed. Strongarm Centurion would be okay too as another heavy fighter. Doubt we'll have the Aurum for that.

Oh, don't worry, if Smash could have every Nintendo characters playable, I would be happy! It's just that we know that, at the moment, it's not possible.

Edit: Also, Jump Ultimate Stars was a really good game too, but I found it a bit unbalanced.
Yet, playing as Neuro or Eve from Black Cat was really fun!
Also, it's a shame Neuro is only an assist character on the next game for the PS3. But I hope Momiji from Binbougami make it to the roster.
Second Edit: Also, Jump Ultimate Stars is a 2D game, I guess sprites take less time to create than 3D models.
