Yeah, these last pictures confirm to me that Zelda's moveset will be practically unchanged.
Thank God, let's just wait for that Sheik reveal (probably close to release date).

Bet you some of those Zelda pics are going to be Miiverse fodder for Sakurai in the coming weeks.

Also, with the exception of the Pokémon X/Y reveal, almost every game we thought was going to have a reveal coincide alongside said game's release has happened. Pretty safe to say we will see Yoshi and Diddy Kong in the coming weeks, but beyond that will be interesting. How often will he start throwing out random reveals like Marth and Peach? January 21st may hold a surprise being Super Smash Bros. 15th anniversary. I'd like to think we'll get a general trailer for the game in commemoration -- whether it's associated with a Nintendo Direct or not.

Just saw the extra Zelda photos, so cool. I love this one I mean look at it.

Oh and King De De De's reveal today. Yeah, he was my least played player in Brawl. Not too excited about his return, but I must admit his facial expressions are quite something.

I was rather shocked that Morbid was the only one who even approached saying something negative about this.
One of the rules of the game's development was not using things like non-canonical animes, and this is why. Am I really the only one who would have liked a Dedede as he actually looked in a video game? Am I the only one whose childhood was trodden upon?
There is plenty they could have used from, say, Super Star Ultra
To me, he looks the same as he does in the games.

I'll flip my s* if either Falco or Captain Falcon are revealed on that day... To me, those characters ARE Smash...

Actually, a CF reveal on the anniversary of Smash sounds almost perfect. Sakurai make this happen!!!

I'm pretty sure they're pulling from all sources to make this Dedede, the obvious example of this is Dedede's closed eyes here look exactly like they did in Dreamland 3

He does have an anime look to him, and that Dedede is one of my least favorite designs, but SSB4 isn't terrible by any means. He looks like he did in Brawl the most, which was one of his best designs.

What're you talking about, looks like he always did to me. In fact that kimono of his visually separates him from the anime version.

Probably not. None of the extra Sonic and Toon Link pics we got back in November from the UK Nintendo Facebook page were ever used on the official site.

Speaking of pics, this was yet another 4 for 5 week when it came to showing off new content. Seems like things won't slow down that much from this point on unless there's a major delay.

Capt. Falcon makes sense. He's typically one of, if not the most popular fighter in the series; and with no new game on the horizon he's going to pop up at some point.

Captain Falcon was also the original concept behind Smash Bros. Before they made it a game about Nintendo characters it was a platform fighter called the Dragon King, with Captain Falcon being the Dragon King.

I don't usually try to expect stuff, but that would literally be the best time to show him. Not to mention with all if the redesigning, move set changes and visual effects in Smash 4, Falcon is gonna be something fierce.

Yes, the kimono is different. But his face is so clearly not from any Kirby game. Several of his expressions in 4 go very much against how he is in his actual games (ex: his post Super-Jump landing animation). Look at that video I hyperlinked before and here, you can clearly see a stylistic difference, with SSU being far superior.
Even if they use his five-year-old TD version, that would have been better.

I made a post about this in one of the Dedede-threads in SSB4 character forum but since the debate's here too how Dedede should look like...

From what I've seen, Dedede is so far a huge mix of all his past depictions, put into parts that bring out best of his personality. I made a run-down analysis in Tumblr about what all designs SSB4's Dedede seems to be inspired of and how it differs from Brawl:

  • First of all, you might notice that his pupils has been made smaller from the Brawl-self, which makes him look more goofier, reminiscent of his character art from the earliest Kirby-games. This seems to do more justice to his goofy-looking appearance and grin:

  • Compared to Brawl Dedede who had more googlier and cutified eyes, which seems to make him look like his Super Star-version (and to some extent modern look). Like we all seem to agree now, it makes him look less expressive and alive than his SSB4-self.

  • Many agree that he has very mischievous and brashy expressions that make him look reminiscent of his Kirby Anime-self. This does great justice to his personality and gives him lots of life:

  • Once again, Sakurai didn't leave even the little bits of details out when considering "how would Dedede look when his eyes are shut?" - In SSB4 when dazed, Dedede closes his eyes in same style as when possessed by Dark Matter in Kirby's Dreamland 2 and 3.

(Loving the dizzy star touch-up btw)

  • I let this speak for itself:

I'm just amazed by the sheer faithful presentation put on these characters. SSB4 has never looked so good with all the color and expressiveness with all these character... meanwhile being an easter eggs pertaining to character design and presentation while at it. It's incredible.

Sakurai, big damn kudos to you. He just can't stop staying as one of my biggest inspiration models. (aggravating choices withstanding)

I found similar pictures to compare the two. Although more realistic, I do think that, besides the kimono, you see a bit of Kirby: Right Back at Ya! in his design. Except more detailed. I'd also like to say I know where Dedede's damaged face comes from.

The more you know.

Sheik and Zero Suit Samus got cut, now when Zelda and Samus perform a specific attack close together we'll get Zero Suit Sheik.
We'll finally put an end to the debate about sheik being a girl or a guy! Oh, you meant Samus' zero suit... er.... of course, what else could you mean?

Oh please, when you're guardian and ruler of the ****ing universe, you've gone to a level far beyond royalty.
Far beyond royalty =/= royalty.

Rosalina is in a class all her own. Divinity.

Maybe the rest of us realize that it really isn't a big deal. ¦D

I love this. Especially since Mario, Sonic and Mega Man are all in the middle together. <3

Dedede's new design reminds me of this hack on BrawlVault called 'Alternate King Dedede'. His eyes are more focused like they are in Smash 4, but his gloves were changed to blue.

I think your analysis is great but you shouldn't give Sakurai all those credits. The things you'd refered to is the work of good 2D/3D artists & animator(s) who did their research properly and are properly really motivated to make this game a better game than brawl was. Besides, Sakurai worked on Brawl too, he didn't 'fix' those animations and expressions back then. It's the square team you should be complimenting.

The last one looks a bit more like this. (1:54)

EDIT:

The NES one is pretty funny too. (2:44)

Everyone is saying that the damage face is from SS, but the pose is really different. It looks more like something RBAY DDD would do, facing the camera.

Remember when the game was first announced and everyone was like "Everyone looks the same from brawl!!" Yea. The more characters that are added the more improved the whole roster seems to look. When zelda was announced that 3ds pic of her and Link made Link look much more distinct from brawl. Honestly the characters that look the most ported from brawl is probably just Mario, Luigi, Pikachu, and Fox. Even they have tiny changes. Other than that there are a lot of tiny differences that add up to a big change.

Dude stahp, does it really matter? I'm a big time Kirby fan and I love what they did with Dedede. He's a goofy character so it'd be better to give him goofier expressions (which are usually more easily expressed in an anime format).

The heads look extremely different to me.

Greatly reduced photo-realism. Looks less arthritic.

Pikachu is the same, just cuter.

That wasn't a criticism, I was just annoyed by several people saying something that was clearly incorrect, followed by "the more you know."
I still hate that they broke a rule of Smash in the ugliest way possible, but I was more annoyed with the above.

Yea I don't know if those pics are actual gameplay but in gameplay fox looks extremely similar to brawl unless you're actually looking for how they changed him. But still all characters look different just some more than others. Yea they changed the colors on Mario and Luigi. With Pikachu they just made his nose smaller. But yea I see your point.
