Also, to all the people freaking out about Metaknight, you honestly think he's gone? With the release of the game only about a month away, I think they're going to knock out and maybe in a Smash Direct before release but I wouldn't expect it this week. Nintendo's probably hyperventilating into paper bags right now hoping Hyrule Warriors doesn't crash and burn on launch so I don't see one happening until next week at the earliest.

I notice you always say that Lucas will be a starter but not Ness. Doesn't Ness make the more sense of the two? He's the more relevant one, has a longer history with Smash Bros. and if Falcon is a starter then I'd assume Ness is as well. I feel like Lucas was only a starter in Brawl because he was a new character, but he isn't anymore so there's not much reason for him to be the starter this time around.

Ness has been unlockable twice already so I feel if one of the Mother characters is a starter, it'll be Lucas unless he's outright cut. I don't see Lucas becoming an unlockable. I feel that Lucas is either a starter or just simply gone. With Ness, it could go either way because he's already been both before.

The Miis have different looking weapons depending on their outfit as far as I can tell. It's not the Item beam sword. Whether it's a reference to the Monado is still a bit of a long shot still..

Yeah, that's probably it. With some outfits as a swordfighter you'll get a lightsaber type thing. @ Mega Bidoof was half joking either way probably.

It was mainly a joke, but it MAY be a slight reference to the Monado, as some of the outfits we've seen are inspired by other things.

Because, come on, no matter what you call this, it's obviously inspired by Tron.

A starter has never become an unlockable before. It could happen, but there's no precedent for it.

I really like this pic. Something that I'm sure was noticed was how the MK cosplay doesn't appear to have a cape or anything. I think that there's a good chance MK will be revamped [because Sakurai doesn't like nerfing] to be more like how he is in Kirby games. He has not once, that I remember, worn a cape in battle, so it's rather strange that he was like that in the first place.

He said that it's technicolor (in the same post where he announced its return IIRC), so it's not unreasonable to think that that's the beam sword, though I doubt it.

Technicolor means using multiple color filters to create the final mix of color. Not that it can be any color.
Look at the Beam Sword in previous games.
Smash 64, it's solid green. Melee, it's solid purple. Brawl, it's solid blue.
Smash 4? It starts blue at the base, but becomes more red as it travels upward. Different color filters. Technicolor.

Aside from that, we've seen Swordfighter Miis use laser blades when dressed up in sci-fi style, and the Beam Sword is curved like a katana at the tip, which is not how the sword in the pic looks (aside from the color being wrong).

Anyone claiming its the Beam Sword doesn't pay attention.

Anyway as for the PoTD I already kinda suspected that would have hats referencing Nintendo games. Samus's helmet dose look like the same model has the Kirby hat for her. As for Meta Knight I guess this hat shows a bit of his new color pallet. And to address the speculation of street pass hats in smash, I still think they are not going to be in the game, it's more likely that they would reference a few rather than adding each and every one from the plaza.
